    This Office Desk is made from American White Oak finishing at 100mm thick. It incorporates a torsion box style design which allows the table to not only stay flat and remain light weight, but also allows for an internal push catch drawer box.
    The drawer itself is made from Quilted Maple and is stained black. The beautiful ripple effect has been achieved by using a process called Popping The Grain.
    One of my favourite features of this Desk is the waterfall ends where the grain carries from the left leg, across the top and back down the right leg.
    It is important to keep in mind that wood is a natural resource that continues to expand and contract throughout the seasons. The two areas that are most prone to movement are the radial plane and the tangential plane. In the case of this desk, it is the tangential shrinkage that poses the biggest threat, which is why this desk has been designed in such a way to allow for the expected wood movement.
    The 10mm oak panels are attached to the torsion box frame using a flexible adhesive allowing enough movement tangentially. Also, the torsion box frame itself is smaller than the overall width of the oak panels, allowing the oak to expand and contract without interruption.
    This piece now sits in a controlled environment in an area where the average moisture content changes by roughly 2-3% throughout the year. But it must be said that this method of construction is not recommended for areas that have drastic changes in temperature.
    The finish used is Osmo Polyx.

    I respect him not only for the skills he’s cultivated. But the guy takes dust seriously.
    Everyone else makes UA-cam videos and takes a year off their life because they want to go maskless. This guy has it figured out.

    С такой шириной столешницы, её скорее всего разорвёт, потому что она жестко связана с рамой. Зезонные расширения древесины ни кто не отменял😀
    Смотрится красиво. Очень класный дизайн и отличная работа.

    I just discovered your videos last night, and I'm hooked! As an avocational furniture maker/woodworker, I could never approach the level of creativity, design and execution without rededicating my life to this type of work (at age 67, it's not possible). Your commitment to craft is absolutely apparent. Like a weekend golfer watching Tiger Woods who knows full well that I could not perform at this level, your channel still provides pieces of info that I could incorporate and improve what I do. I applaud you and your work!

      What does knocking down the stain mean?

    • @greco37
      @greco37 4 роки тому

      Its a common process in the wall finishing trades. Basically you’re flattening , or knocking down, whatever was applied to achieve a softer, smoother look to the finished product. Hope that helps.

    Being a kind of zealot of your works, I look at your videos slowly in order not to have my brain exploding ; so I saw this one, and "hummmm, what is he doing? A more ordinary desk!!??"......later on "why this black stai........" and then, wham, I see all the details and the fit and the grain pattern and....... Oh yeah! it's the same guy who make art in a different level. Very beautiful desk sir.
