YES, the man who caught her has to build that confidence so that she TOTALLY trusts him. His strength is not only physical but in making sure she does not get hurt. This is powerful!
She also helps push off the ground with her arms as he is starting to lift her. Flyers also have to jump or push of the ground before going up into a stunt it. It helps take a bit off the base and adds momentum for him to get a faster lift.
And her too. The flyer needs all their muscles to be board stiff in order to be thrown properly. Any sandbagging and he can’t throw her. It’s really a two person job and both are amazing

Hi, when I was 16 I was doing one man stunts with my flyer and the flyer really matters the most. Stability and keeping tight is the most difficult part of this stunt and I can’t tell you how many girls had super shaky feet and wouldn’t stay solid and tight. Strength isn’t really a factor as you are barely lifting less than 100 pounds overhead, the momentum helps.
