Could you imagine what these photos are doing for these young women, for their self-image and esteem? Seeing yourself as a badass, in your sport, in a photograph you'd expect to see in ESPN magazine? That's got to be incredible.
I'm a photographer (as a hobby) and both the replies above are correct. For these types of photos with moving components it's easiest to make sure you have a fast shutter speed and take a burst of photos, but there's so many things you have to know to make sure the photos come out so well (especially with what seems to be minimal editing post-photoshoot). These people are super talented!

No, because I graduated 20 years ago, but I still remember that the photographer who did my student ID was the same man who did my senior pics like 2 days before, and he knew all my angles. I'm pretty sure I still have that ID in storage somewhere it's sooo good.
