Barristan took down 14 men before he died, and said to have taken down 7-8 more before reaching the alley, so 21-22 men before dying, thats one of the best swordsman, and that too without his armour, imagine him in his young days

They really did Barristan dirty. The one thing I disliked the most from this season. Ian McElhinney (the actor) fought long and hard to try and keep his character in the show. Sad to see him go for sure. Loved the reaction as always! Can’t wait for more!

@@CS-wx3ob I agree 100%. They talk up Selmy so much. The songs written about him, even when Joffrey dismissed him from KingsGuard he said “I could still cut through you all like butter”. Such a shame and waste of creative writing.

@@CS-wx3ob "No point"? Don't you see how Dany is affected by his death? How she has one less advisor for this season and makes even more poor decisions? In fact, Dany pretty much sent him to his death by sending him out that day. He was vastly outnumbered, took out a TON if you didn't notice, but they played dirty. You say there was NO POINT? Then you didn't watch the show, only hyper-focused on what you disliked.

@BlitzGirl No, definitely watched the show, just hated some of their "creative" changes they made to the source material. The more they made, the more detrimental they collectively became. This is my opinion, and is shared by many. Just because you like this decision and use CAPS LOCK on some random WORDS doesn't make your opinion more valid than mine.
@Lauren Taylor In the books they talked him up, and he showed why. In the series, they talked him up and he was pretty good then died.

@@CS-wx3ob I read the books after I saw season 2, and I am capable of viewing books and show as two separate entities. There are things I like about the books, things I prefer about the show. Pros and cons to each. Only book-to-screen adaptation Ioathe with a passion is The Hobbit, both as an adaption and as a trilogy of films. Sure, even those films have good moments, but it's the only adaptation I personally have watched that I didn't enjoy. Still love Game of Thrones, and I won't let anyone try to tell me why I should hate it.

I never understood some reactions about Tommen:
    - His parents are/were terrible: Robert and Jaime didn't seem to care much about him, Cersei is crazy, focused on Joffrey and did a terrible job,
    - Joffrey was a bad brother,
    - Despite aging him to at most 15 in the show, he's played like in the books ie a child. He's married to Margaery at 9/10...

The two most significant parts of this episode are the conversation Barristan Selmy has with Daenerys on the balcony of Meereen and the conversation Littlefinger has with Sansa in the Crypts of Winterfell. Both of those convos feel pretty unassuming, as they're supposed to be. But keep those scenes in the back of your mind.

I think the important thing to remember with Tommen is that he was raised in an environment that wasn’t looking at him to succeed and that coupled with his timid and gentle nature meant that he’s not gonna be a bold active person. His parents certainly didn’t do much for him to teach him to be ready, and Joffrey was clearly bullying him since they were young as we hear bits of Tommen’s comments about it, so if he’s acting more childish or very timid, it’s that he’s grown up more or less neglected and with an oppressive cruel bullying older brother who would threaten him. This is probably the first time in his life that he’s really in any position to feel open and safe and kind of in control so he’s enjoying some of that freedom he didn’t have before and some of the good attention he didn’t have before. It’s not a matter of he needs to man up or not, it’s a matter of he’s just a kind and sweet kid who’s not made for doing harsh things because it’s not in his nature. He doesn’t want to upset people and he doesn’t want to hurt people.

Even when I first saw this episode I knew Jaime only said that to end the conversation. He loves Tyrion too much to genuinely want to kill him, but he does feel a bit betrayed by him since Jaime did love his father to a degree. Cersei being Cersei doesn't help him either, especially with how she is treating him. Jaime is stressed and heartbroken and just wants his niece(daughter) to be safe.
9:10 Never thought I'd say this, but I kind of wish we had Joffrey here. He'd have the faith militants killed without a second thought. Tommen is just too soft to make the hard decisions it seems.
    10:17 AHAHAHAHAHA.... *clears throat*

Poor sweet Tommen. Being pulled around from every angle even by his own mother. I always found her sending Tommen off to confront the High Sparrow, even with the Kingsguard to be uncharacteristic of her. She put him in considerable danger sending him to the poorer parts of Kings Landing. Tommen also has very little chance of manning up, he is still only a boy and has no decent male figure in his life now to actually give him the right advice and help him deal with his feelings. Jaime is away, Tywin is dead, all he has are people who will use him.
Not saying that Tywin wouldn't use Tommen but Tywin would have made sure he made the correct choices to protect the family... just that Tywin wouldn't have sent Tommen down into the rats nest like that nor would he use Tommen to deliver messages personally to a perceived enemy, he'd have taken a considerable Lannister force and gone himself with Jaime to release the Tyrells by means of demanding it or just wiping out the sparrows, something Tywin wouldn't be concerned about doing given his history of wiping out large forces and families over signs of disloyalty. He doesn't care about what the commoners think of him or if they may riot, they'll stop rioting when they begin to starve and the large families control the food and money. Cersei armed these people and then refused to deal with them after she had achieved the purpose of them damaging the Tyrells. Wiping them out after that was the go to way to fix arming them, keeping them around was stupid, Cersei didn't learn as much from Tywin as she thinks.
Jaime knowing why Tyrion killed their dad doesn't excuse the fact he did it to him, it was perhaps justified but a needless death that will cause huge problems. Right or wrong decision to go back and kill Tywin or not, Jaime has good reason to be mad. That was still Jaime's dad and he didn't release Tyrion to go and do that, he released him so none of his family would die from the shitty situation someone has put them in. Jaime knew Tyrion didn't kill Joffrey so he also knew that someone is out there actively trying to get the Lannisters out of power, so he probably wouldn't want any of them dying due to this mystery outsider. Trying to save one led to another being killed, he probably has anger for himself too and is deflecting that onto Tyrion.

  • @leomullin9192
    @leomullin9192 2 роки тому

At the core of the plan was the prospect of the historical alliance of the Vale and North that once took down the "greatest dynasty the world's ever seen". It gave Baelish the flexibility to move against the Lannisters in tandem with the north, but also against a depleted Stannis or Bolton, whichever he saw fit since he still had Cersei's ear. It's also clearly implied Baelish hoped Sansa would eventually wear the pants in the marriage and Baelish could then rule the North by proxy. But Ramsay being a monstrous sadist threw a wrench in everything. His mistake was overestimating how much control Roose had on his son. Some of the people who hate watch these reactions will go to comical lengths of cynicism to shit on the show without realizing most of their hive mind talking points have no merit and can be easily picked apart.

Minor detail: I figured that "lack of inner resources" referred to a lack of creativity, not intelligence. Like when parents tell their bored kids to use their imagination to come up with something to do? On the other hand, considering what kind of parents we see in the show, perhaps you're right. 😧
When it comes to Ser Barristan's death, I'll chime in with many others. It was disgracefully handled by D&D and one of the first things I _really_ disliked about the show, even though I hadn't read the books yet. Having a decent amount of RL experience with swordplay and martial arts in general, I'd say that there's a _world_ of difference between being unskilled and being an expert. While I don't consider myself a master, I am confident that I'd be able to cut down several of those clowns before going down myself. Ser Barristan wasn't just an expert, his skill was legendary and this is in fact hinted at in the show as well. Also, having personal experience of fighting while wearing a visored helmet, I know that limiting your peripheral vision by using a visor or mask can become a serious handicap. In addition, you'll get starved of oxygen, making you tire much more quickly.
All in all, I feel that season 5 was the beginning of a serious decline in quality. After this, I think it got increasingly worse to such an extent that I avoid watching reactions to season 6 and onward. Those aren't really Game of Thrones anyway, it's D&D making things up in a Game of Thrones setting.

We just saw the first glimpse of the new king's mettle, and it's not very inspiring. He's like a glitchy video game hurriedly thrown into the store before the creators (Tywin) could put finishing touches on it. What difference in temperaments between him and the previous king. This one would rather read poetry than rule. Mild mannered boy, never intended to be the ruler. But for Cersei arming the Faith might not be the best idea, as fanatics don't tend to stop where you intend them to stop. She was feeling increasingly isolated with the Tyrell grip getting tighter in the capitol. This is an act of desperation, not strength. Funnily enough I think this is how King Robert felt in his last days surrounded by Lannisters. The tables have turned.

"That came in HANDY!" Your pun did not go unnoticed by me!
I know people hate Barristen's death, and they let that be the reason they dislike the show, but I noticed right away that 1.) he was outnumbered even though he took out A LOT, 2.) Dany pretty much sent him to his death by sending him out that fateful day, 3.) the Harpies play dirty, 4.) this all causes Dany to lose a valuable mentor, after already banishing Jorah, so she has set herself up for more poor decisions. This may not please book lovers, but there is clearly cause-and-effect with this decision if you actually watch the rest of the season and stop letting one death blind you to the rest of it.
