What is it like wearing a day pack or a running pack. Does the material pile? I have read it wears due to it being soft and lightweight. I am planning to buy for a multi day ultra

Very much so, use it as much from hiking as I do running. As with all water proofs make sure you wash and reproof it regularly

Thinking of a jacket for MTB this winter, but skakedry running jackets have 80K breathability rating and completely waterproof (50k water resistance), so over double the kinetic breathability and more waterproof. What would the advantage of this jacket have over the skakedry?

Response from Rab about breathability of this jacket vs. those with goretex shakedry membrane: "It is a very complex topic but it seems the MVTR quoted for the above products is using a different testing procedure (JIS L-1099 B-1 method rather than JIS L1099 A-1 method ) and therefore produces higher results, usually around twice that of the A-1 testing." If they are saying truth, by using the same method of testing MVTR=breathability, Kinetic ultra would have about 70k.
