  • The Kinetic Alpine has been used and loved by Trekitt for years - the New 2.0 features updated materials and an improved fit to make this classic even better. The Kinetic Alpine 2.0 is a very unique creature; it takes the softness, stretchiness and breathability of a softshell, and the waterproof capabilities of a hard shell to create a jacket halfway between the two. It's perfect for use in the same situations as you'd normally use a softshell, but where the weather may be a little more changeable.

    I wish they did this in better colours. I undertstand the use of bright colours but they could do like Arcteryx and release nice subtle earth tones and pastels too.

    Currently have the original Kinetic Alpine trousers and they are utterly amazing; spent several very wet days in Dartmoor with them and the performed perfectly; anything thinking about getting any of the Kinetic Alpine range should go for it!

    Great review guys! In-depth as always, I have been very interested in this piece as my other shell wears like a trash bag lol, thank you for all of your reviews, especially during these difficult pandemic times as leaving the house to shop isn’t always an option, it really helps make informed decisions on gear when having to order online. Hello @trekitt folks. Thanks for another exceptional video. With as breathable as this appears to be, would it take the place of the Rab Vapor Rise Summit? I know the latter is exceptionally breathable, has the soft, brushed lining, and is somewhat rain resistant. Is the Kinetic Alpine a bit more versatile due to its ability to keep the wearer drier in very wet weather? If only buying one, are the two close enough that the Kinetic would be the one to get? Lastly, is the fit the same on both or is the sizing different? Thanks in advance and keep up the terrific work.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому

      The two aren't reallllyyy comparable. The Kinetic Alpine is a super breathable waterproof, whereas the VR Summit is a super breathable insulated layer. For fast moving activities in relatively tame conditions, the VR is king. Sizing is fairly similar; both are on the slim side, but the VR has more room in the arms/shoulders. Harry

    I own the original Kinectic Alpine and I love it, soft and quiet to wear. However I have to be careful in the bush here in Australia as I’ve already put a small hole in it. Where as my Arcteryx Theta hard shell is absolutely bomb proof in the bush, but noisy to wear and I don’t find it as breathable. I’m still waiting for the perfect shell...

    Based on the numbers this seems exactly like Neoshell, pretty cool. Until TNF puts out better FL products with 75K breathability this seems like a great buy.

      Hi Mark, the Kinetic is a game changer in terms of comfort and performance, but please bear in mind that it's not designed for super tough gnarly mountaineering. Paul.

    So do you think the non-alpine Kinetic 2.0 lacks the tougher Nylon bits and has a softer feel over the whole jacket?
    Cause that would actually be a bonus in my case.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Рік тому +1

      It doesn't feel hugely different; both are really soft and stretchy. But the Kinetic (non-alpine) will be a little more breathable.

    Bit of a curve ball question here , thinking of this jacket & the trousers for walking the dog in our inclement weather but also for playing golf . My thoughts are that this would be a better option than golf waterproofs .

    Golf 3hr , what are your thoughts

    Trying to decide on a decent hill walking jacket for my wife… this looks great, but so does the Mountain Equipment Womens Saltoro Jacket. Any reason to choose one over the other?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 роки тому

      The Saltoro is a great jacket for prolonged, heavy rain when moving a little slower. The Kinetic is more of a half-way house between a softshell and a hardshell, so more when you need good weather resistance with more breathability. Harry

  • @mikek9188
    @mikek9188 2 роки тому

    I can not decide between the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 or Muztag GORE-TEX Pro Jacket. I like the orange accents on the Muztag. Like if I was to get 2 of them, would the Kinetic Alpine 2.0 and Muztag set? So I can use Kinetic Alpine 2 for when I am hiking more and the Muztag for more severe tasks

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  2 роки тому

      As you've mentioned, the Muztag is definitely the one to pick for severe weather for prolonged periods of time. The Kinetic behaves more like a softshell and is best used in changeable, less severe conditions. As an all-rounder, the Muztag is the one I'd pick for absolute waterproof protection., but if you can afford both, they'll both be extremely useful in their own right. Harry

      @@trekitt What about the Meridian and Muztag. Decided to wait for more colors to come out for the Kinetic. How does the Muztag compare with the Arc'teryx Beta AR? In terms of materials which jacket would you say is built better and will last longer?

    How waterproof is this compared to something like to something like a Patagonia Torrentshell 3L?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  Рік тому

      This is more of a softshell that will resist a lot of rain whereas the Torrentshell is a full on hardshell. Choose the latter for persistent heavy rain and the former for changeable conditions with greater breathability.

      I'd say go with the full hardshell if you don't already have one; from my experience, the Kinetic Alpine is brilliant and can pretty much do it all, but in the worst weather, I'd still want to be taking a dedicated hardshell, if only just for peace of mind rather than anything else. I have the original Kinetic trousers and would still talk proper shell trousers out, its just that the conditions have to be worse for my to change into them than if it I was wearing normal softshell trousers

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому

      Hi Martin, get both! The Kinetic is absolutely brilliant, but you will still need a super durable hardshell if you are going to do some tough gnarly mountaineering. Thanks for watching. Paul.

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +1

      Orbital is slightly longer, more breathable and will fit a helmet underneath its hood, whereas the Kinetic is more packable and has a more 'head-shaped' hood if you'll rarely wear a climbing helmet. Realistically, both are brilliant pieces and it largely comes down to fit. Harry

    Stuck between this or the Mountain Equipment Orbital any major differences in fit?

    • @trekitt
      @trekitt  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Stuart. I've not used the M.E Orbital, I've only tried it on in the Service Centre, and my immediate comments would be that the Rab is softer and stretchier than the Orbital; the M.E does feel a bit tougher. Fit wise they are very similar, with the Rab being ever so slightly longer in the body and arms. I hope that helps. Paul.

    Nowhere near as waterproof as Rab imply. The soft shell material means the water holds on the fabric and it soon becomes saturated and stops breathing.
