Directed by Tony Award® winner Michael Mayer (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Spring Awakening) with a new book by Emmy® and Golden Globe Award®-winning writer Danny Strong (Empire, The Butler, Game Change), Chess stars Raúl Esparza (Company, the Kennedy Center’s Sunday in the Park with George, Merrily We Roll Along) as American chess champion Freddie; Ramin Karimloo (Anastasia) as rival Russian chess star Anatoly Sergievsky; Tony Award® winner Ruthie Ann Miles (The King and I, Here Lies Love) as Anatoly’s wife, Svetlana; and Tony Award® winner Karen Olivo (West Side Story, In the Heights) as Florence, a remarkable Hungarian refugee who becomes the center of their emotional triangle. Joining them are Bradley Dean (Dear Evan Hansen) as Ivan Molokov, Sean Allan Krill (Honeymoon in Vegas) as Walter de Courcey, and Bryce Pinkham (A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder) as the Arbiter.

Matt, it ain't fancy with full orchestra and whatnot, but it is one of my favorite memories: Texarkana, Texas (not kidding!!) and Ramin with his guys on their Broadgrass tour. The only thing better than his talent, is how great a regular guy he is. :-)

I think poor Raul caught a cold during this and it's a bit noticeable here. But he is so amazing otherwise. Love ya Raul. I'm sure you're feeling better by now.

Ruthie and Raúl both had bronchitis, but they both did all seven performances! I saw the third to last show and it was evident that Raúl was sick, but his performance was still amazing, in places his voice may have lacked, his acting made up for it!
I drove from Pittsburgh to Washington DC just to see this and it was quite frankly the best musical production I have ever seen

This was just phenomenal...and I saw the show when Raul had pretty much lost his voice and battled through with his great acting. Just hearing Ramin sing Anthem live made the ticket worth it, and the entire cast was exceptional (especially Bryce as the Arbiter). Wish they had made a cast recording

Uhhh, everyone in that cast is a theatre legend who’s done that caliber of role. Literally everyone knows who Ramin Karimloo is.
I hope Ruthie Ann Miles makes a full recovery from that tragic accident so she can come with this to Broadway (if it transfers)
I just saw her last October in Sweeney Todd and told her I loved her in this show at the stage door!

this was an amazing show, so lucky i got to experience it.
My favorite musical bar none. I saw the Broadway version and various other incantations in community and regional theatres and yet the biting cynicism of the Broadway version, where Florence is sacrificed as a pawn, is my favorite. It left me gutted but it also stuck with me longer than any of the other productions that had a feel good ending with Florence reuniting with her father. Such great music.
The original West End production (which is far more superior to the Broadway rewrite in my opinion) also had the ending with Florence being the sacrificied pawn. I think it works best. Florence reuniting with her father just ruins the message the show tries to convey: politics control us, playing games with our lives for nothing.

One of my favorite musicals, but apart from Ramin, this cast pales in comparison to the London concert one.
Ramin is more than enough.
I love Ramin too, but I disagree about the other actors and actresses paling compared to the London concert.

which version is this? London or Broadway?
It’s based on the West End version but a new book with added dialogues and songs reordered was written especially for this revival.

truthfully they could have picked a better cast, especially if you compare it to some of the other adaptions, this is subpar, good to see it's still around at least

I have much respect for Ramin, but this really feels like one of those miscast concerts in NYC. Nearly everyone in this production is wrong for their role. The best Chess in concert was the AEA benefit in 2003 with Julia Murney, Sutton Foster and Adam Pascal.

Wow, :51 is so cringe. I don't know this actor at all, but this looked like bad community theater. The dance moves are painful to watch.
This actor is called Raúl Esparza and has been nominated for several Tony Awards.
@@Casutama Yes, I looked him up after I watched the video and I see that he's had an excellent career, as well as the Tony nominations you mentioned, but I still didn't enjoy this performance. I am going to look up some of the other things he's done as I am unfamiliar with his work.
