Benjamin Byron Davis is the VA and motion capture performer for Dutch. He is a terrific VA and gives a wonderful performance in this game. He takes a character that could’ve easily been very one dimensional and instills a lot of heart and spirit into him
Dutch is far from being one-dimensional regardless of the VA (who's great, as you said). He's legit one of the best written characters in videogame history and a great case-study for mental illness.
The timing of this series is truly uncanny. I've also been staring at this game longingly, even began to play a few times, but I've never had the stomach for "gritty" scenes, and I'm not very good at games in general. I always hoped someone I liked would do a playthrough. I'd just uninstalled it for a 3rd time, opened UA-cam, saw this video, and audibly squealed. 😆Your commentary is so spot on. I really love how you drink in all the detail and do things like read Arthur's diary the whole way through - it's not a "boring lore dump" to me at all. Thank you for trying this game out!! ^v^

Really wanna thank Miss Penny Snapcube for this series. Her calm nice voice paired with chill gameplay is really helping me recently with anxious nights. It really helps me feel safe when my brain wants to tell me otherwise and provides a nice serene stimulation for my other neurodivergence to cling onto that isn’t the only other voice in my head and make nights like these worse. It’s like being at a sleepover with a really trusted friend who you’re watching play a game on their console as your eyes get too heavy to completely enjoy what they’re doing, but it’s okay because they enjoy you’re here anyway. I’ve been putting the playlist on loop these past few nights and I’m looking forward to more entries so I can continue to coax my brain into feeling safe at night again

I missed this series so much, the first episode came out a little after I lost my dad. These helped me fall asleep & dream without waking up to nightmares. I’m glad to see it come back, even if I’m a bit late to seeing it return
The open word of this game is surprisingly dense, despite how big it is. There are a ton of small stories to stumble across and little hidden things all over. I’m still finding new stuff and I’ve played through the game three times

I can not thank you enough for midnight snap. There are so many nights where I can’t sleep due to anxiety, and midnight snap has helped me so much with that; calming me and distracting me from those anxious thoughts. I’ve watched the frog detective video almost every night since it came out. It has been instrumental in helping me sleep. I worked late last night when this video came out and was worried about getting enough sleep because I had a morning shift today. I passed out almost immediately watching this, so thank you again! Looking forward to future episodes, whatever they may be 💕

Only a little over an hour into the episode as of commenting but I just want to express how much I'm absolutely here for more RDR2! This game left such a huge impression on me when I first played through it, I could ramble on, but in short I think it has a lot to offer a series like this and I hope you enjoy exploring it all for yourself
(just got this part in the one hour mark so i wanted to comment now,) i was surprised to hear that people found the frog detective video not as good as a sleep aid then a general relaxing aid, because that one actually helped me get to sleep during one of the roughest nights i had with sleep, recently. thinking more on it, it definitely helped bc i watched it through first, so i can actually see what they mean. but, that collab with katydiids was such good timing because having the two of you just hang out and have a quiet good time was exactly what i needed then, and id absolutely eat it up if there was ever another one. this one though, has also come at a great time! although im not using it as a sleep aid currently, the laid back vibe with this sort of game is really appreciated right now. in fact, i started it last night before i went to bed, and had cowboy dreams because of it?? even though i wasnt sleeping to it?? it was very funny. im excited to watch the rest and i hope you can continue like youve been wanting to! others like me are happy to wait while things arent working out, but its great u were able to find a game that was able to bring it back from the accidental long pause :>
oh don’t get me wrong, A TON of people, if not most, have said that the Frog Detective episode is the best one so far for both sleep and relaxation! i just meant to emphasize that when it comes to sleep aid there are gonna be VERY different opinions that i want to make sure im taking into account as much as i can with a wide variety of formats, cause even with what i personally consider to be the best episode so far i still got the OCCASIONAL bit of feedback that not everyone found it suited them. which is perfectly fine! that’s why im experimenting so much! :)

Heya penny. I've commented to this effect on other midnight snaps before but I really appreciate these videos and they're extremely helpful for me in regards to relaxing and winding down for sleep. I'm not fully sure why but often while watching/listening to these I'll just have a gentle cry. Maybe because I feel safe? I don't know. Same thing happens when I watch some of my favourite comfort shows. Anyway! This one was also excellent and despite the somewhat different tone to something like animal crossing it was still immensely comfortable to watch and listen to and drift off to sleep with. So again, thank you.
I've been having a ton of problems sleeping for the past few years, with specific routines that I follow even though they really just don't work? So last night I just realized that lying in the dark trying to force myself to sleep isn't actually the same as relaxing, so I laid down and listened to this and... I know someone also mentioned something similar, but this reminds me when I used to go to my great grandparents during the summer when I was a kid and my great grandfather would watch old westerns on Starz Westerns late into the night and I would curl up one of the recliners in the living room and fall asleep to them. I love the audio mixing on this and I'm also hoping to see a part 2 in the future.
I didnt expect to be able to fall asleep to this, so i just kinda put it on in the background while i was chilling. ended up accidentally taking a half hour nap (only woke up bc my dog was barking) so the sleep aid aspect of this video totally works haha. would definitely be interested in seeing more of this!

I was unconfident if I'd enjoy this one, as Red Dead isn't usually my typical "genre" of games + I was unsure if it'd give off that perfect sleepytime "vibe" in comparison to how much I enjoyed the Pikmin one. Wow! This works *great* for a relax/sleep aid. I normally struggle to pay close attention to playthroughs of games like this, but in a video series designed so that's more or less the idea, I'm finding that I'm able to enjoy it a lot more. Less pressure, y'know? Thank you for the video; I'd personally love to see more of RDR2, but Midnight Snap in general is such a consistent delight!

in terms of sleep aid this isnt as good as frog detective for me personally (nothing will ever top frog detective in terms of pure sleepy power) but i have been using these as calm-down-time videos for the evening and rdr2 is PERFECT for that. i love the idea of multiple different vibes for these types of videos because there are times when i need to go to sleep Fast and there are times where i just want to wind down after a long day and have a friendly voice as background noise. keep up the good work, penny! love this series!

Hello! I'm not entirely subscribed to you, but I do check out your long vods on this channel on occasion, especially for either background noise when I write or draw (or get into a story RP with a friend on occasion), and when I do settle down for the night. I'm not any night-aid expert, but your Midnight Snap entries are quite nice to fall asleep to for me on the occasional days that I do--I especially liked your episode for New Leaf (it bringing back memories of my time playing around in my town, which was always soothing to reflect on). I don't know if you take any game suggestions or recommendations for games you'd like to try or experiment with for this particular series of videos, but, I do have one for your consideration: "Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon" (it does play out like a fairytale, and though it does have some exciting action, it's pretty much on the soothing side most of the times too, especially with the music and ambience through it).
I believe Roger Clark (Arthur's VA) has also said trans rights are human rights!! i'm pretty sure he's caught up on it! This episode fucks hard and i would Enjoy More.

hey, so I'm listening to the audio only version, but I have thoughts rattling around in my brain and wanna get them out lol (disclaimer: I'm only 20 minutes in, so it's super possible you've already said some or all of this) 1. I think that this is a good pick for this series, especially once you get to Valentine on, because it's such a game you can get lost in. I can think of almost no other games that have a hand crafted world that you just slowly wander and explore like that, and RDR2 basically perfects that vibe anyway lol. I'd still love to hear you keep going through the story (because it's genuinely super good, and I always enjoy your reactions to things), but the open world roaming is gonna be peak midnight snap with this game 2. you're talking about basically this concept at the point I'm at in the video, but the way I like to describe RDR2 is it's a cowboy simulator that pretends to be an action game sometimes. imo that's why there's so much focus on the slow, purposeful animations, that's why the controls are a little wonky, that's why the world is so vast, etc etc. I love it, but a lot of people went into it thinking it'd be an action game unfortunately 3. I hope you know that if you do a full playthrough of this, the *day* you finish your last session, they'll put out the PS5/series X version (and update PC to match lmao) anyway you've probably already considered this, but those thoughts also led me to the conclusion that Death Stranding might be a strong contender for a midnight snap game. like this, it's long stretches of silence broken up by occasional big chunks of dialogue, and it'd encourage me to finally get around to beating it lol
6 months later and i still come back to this video. RDR2 is my favorite game EVER and i would love to see you play more of this!! I cant tell you how many times ive watched this one already

Deleted the game to make room for Cyberpunk 2077 when that came out, and never had enough draw to get back 🤦

I used to have chronic nightmares, but I've learned how to keep them at bay through a combo of antipsychotics (which I take for other reasons not just nightmares lmao) and listening to something as I fall asleep. (just got this part in the one hour mark so i wanted to comment now,) i was surprised to hear that people found the frog detective video not as good as a sleep aid then a general relaxing aid, because that one actually helped me get to sleep during one of the roughest nights i had with sleep, recently. thinking more on it, it definitely helped bc i watched it through first, so i can actually see what they mean. but, that collab with katydiids was such good timing because having the two of you just hang out and have a quiet good time was exactly what i needed then, and id absolutely eat it up if there was ever another one.
this one though, has also come at a great time! although im not using it as a sleep aid currently, the laid back vibe with this sort of game is really appreciated right now. in fact, i started it last night before i went to bed, and had cowboy dreams because of it?? even though i wasnt sleeping to it?? it was very funny. im excited to watch the rest and i hope you can continue like youve been wanting to! others like me are happy to wait while things arent working out, but its great u were able to find a game that was able to bring it back from the accidental long pause :>
oh don’t get me wrong, A TON of people, if not most, have said that the Frog Detective episode is the best one so far for both sleep and relaxation! i just meant to emphasize that when it comes to sleep aid there are gonna be VERY different opinions that i want to make sure im taking into account as much as i can with a wide variety of formats, cause even with what i personally consider to be the best episode so far i still got the OCCASIONAL bit of feedback that not everyone found it suited them. which is perfectly fine! that’s why im experimenting so much! :)
if this doesnt work for midnight snap will you plan on playing rdr2 for your regular content ? bc id love to see you play it :) i understand if you dont wanna tho bc theres SO many games that came out this year/early next year on your backlog LOL

Heya penny. I've commented to this effect on other midnight snaps before but I really appreciate these videos and they're extremely helpful for me in regards to relaxing and winding down for sleep. I'm not fully sure why but often while watching/listening to these I'll just have a gentle cry. Maybe because I feel safe? I don't know. Same thing happens when I watch some of my favourite comfort shows. Anyway! This one was also excellent and despite the somewhat different tone to something like animal crossing it was still immensely comfortable to watch and listen to and drift off to sleep with. I've been having a ton of problems sleeping for the past few years, with specific routines that I follow even though they really just don't work? So last night I just realized that lying in the dark trying to force myself to sleep isn't actually the same as relaxing, so I laid down and listened to this and... It was some of the best sleep I've had in years!!!

I know someone also mentioned something similar, but this reminds me when I used to go to my great grandparents during the summer when I was a kid and my great grandfather would watch old westerns on Starz Westerns late into the night and I would curl up one of the recliners in the living room and fall asleep to them. I love the audio mixing on this and I'm also hoping to see a part 2 in the future.
I didnt expect to be able to fall asleep to this, so i just kinda put it on in the background while i was chilling. ended up accidentally taking a half hour nap (only woke up bc my dog was barking) so the sleep aid aspect of this video totally works haha. would definitely be interested in seeing more of this!

Wow! This works *great* for a relax/sleep aid. I normally struggle to pay close attention to playthroughs of games like this, but in a video series designed so that's more or less the idea, I'm finding that I'm able to enjoy it a lot more. Less pressure, y'know? Thank you for the video; I'd personally love to see more of RDR2, but Midnight Snap in general is such a consistent delight!
You have no idea how much this helps me!! When I have nothing to listen to, my brain starts to wonder, and stress overcomes me. Listening to your content has helped me sleep. I replay the older episodes over and over. And seeing this new content, red dead 2 even, I was so excited!!!

in terms of sleep aid this isnt as good as frog detective for me personally (nothing will ever top frog detective in terms of pure sleepy power) but i have been using these as calm-down-time videos for the evening and rdr2 is PERFECT for that. i love the idea of multiple different vibes for these types of videos because there are times when i need to go to sleep Fast and there are times where i just want to wind down after a long day and have a friendly voice as background noise. keep up the good work, penny! love this series!

I’ve always thought this would be a fun, if not extremely unrealistic real time fandub. Like realistically it’s probably too big to be used but I could see it being so funny. Also the vibes of chill cowboy time with Penny are absolutely there.

I launched the game for the first time at 2 in the morning and played until the sun came up. It’s such a perfect game for late night playing and even watching now makes me want to replay it myself again.

Hello! I'm not entirely subscribed to you, but I do check out your long vods on this channel on occasion, especially for either background noise when I write or draw (or get into a story RP with a friend on occasion), and when I do settle down for the night.
I'm not any night-aid expert, but your Midnight Snap entries are quite nice to fall asleep to for me on the occasional days that I do--I especially liked your episode for New Leaf (it bringing back memories of my time playing around in my town, which was always soothing to reflect on).
I don't know if you take any game suggestions or recommendations for games you'd like to try or experiment with for this particular series of videos, but, I do have one for your consideration: "Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon" (it does play out like a fairytale, and though it does have some exciting action, it's pretty much on the soothing side most of the times too, especially with the music and ambience through it).

hey, so I'm listening to the audio only version, but I have thoughts rattling around in my brain and wanna get them out lol (disclaimer: I'm only 20 minutes in, so it's super possible you've already said some or all of this)
1. I think that this is a good pick for this series, especially once you get to Valentine on, because it's such a game you can get lost in. I can think of almost no other games that have a hand crafted world that you just slowly wander and explore like that, and RDR2 basically perfects that vibe anyway lol. I'd still love to hear you keep going through the story (because it's genuinely super good, and I always enjoy your reactions to things), but the open world roaming is gonna be peak midnight snap with this game
2. you're talking about basically this concept at the point I'm at in the video, but the way I like to describe RDR2 is it's a cowboy simulator that pretends to be an action game sometimes. imo that's why there's so much focus on the slow, purposeful animations, that's why the controls are a little wonky, that's why the world is so vast, etc etc. I love it, but a lot of people went into it thinking it'd be an action game unfortunately
3. I hope you know that if you do a full playthrough of this, the *day* you finish your last session, they'll put out the PS5/series X version (and update PC to match lmao)
anyway you've probably already considered this, but those thoughts also led me to the conclusion that Death Stranding might be a strong contender for a midnight snap game. like this, it's long stretches of silence broken up by occasional big chunks of dialogue, and it'd encourage me to finally get around to beating it lol

This series might be what gets me to redownload RDR2 and actually beat the first main story mission. 😂 Like, I got access to the camp and heard "resources" and have been poaching and gathering ever since. Deleted the game to make room for Cyberpunk 2077 when that came out, and never had enough draw to get back 🤦

I used to have chronic nightmares, but I've learned how to keep them at bay through a combo of antipsychotics (which I take for other reasons not just nightmares lmao) and listening to something as I fall asleep. I've been using this series to fall asleep to for a couple days now and oh my god, it's ideal for keeping my nightmares away. So, thank you!!!
