    I had a small arena cross track and people don't realize how much maintenance a track needs. Unless you live in the desert it is a constant battle with the weeds. And no matter where you live you always have to water. So much work.

    @ MGO Network
    A lot of people have asked the same question; I didn't have a stock pile available or dump truck loads brought in (which is ideal), so I just used the scraper box attached to the rear of the tractor and dug out two areas where the track wasn't being utilized... their now small ponds. lol

    You've convinced me to hire big earth-moving machinery and truck in dirt where possible. Loosening earth with the blade, digging and transporting the dirt with a tractor looks painful..... even with the time lapse video

    @ Luke Cameron: I'd like to be able to but it just depends on time. When I originally built the track I was between jobs and had roughly 6 days a week to work on it. That's not the case these days, I'm back to full time work so I'm not sure when I'd be able to. I'm kicking around the idea of changing the layout of the track, so if that happens I'll video it and show more detail.

    @ Aidan Schwantz, I'm finally able to find time again to work on it and I hope to be able to make another video soon. It's a long story, but I live about an hour from my track now and work so much in only able to get out there about twice a month for about 6 or 7 hours in Sundays (due to my work schedule). There hasn't been much to video yet, just moving dirt and redesigning the layout. I've had to shrink the track a little but there's still a good amount of space. I'll keep everyone posted.
    Thanks to all for the comments! Now get out and ride. Braaap

      Steven Hernandez how did you come up with the layout? Do you happen to have a sketch of the layout you can share? I have about 3 acres to play with and would like to start building but know it will take time. Any pointers on laying out the design now that you have done it and redesigning it?

    @ Danny Boy! I didn't do much of that in the beginning, but I have recently. I'm in the middle of reconstructing some things before the ground is too hard to work again. It's tough though, balancing time on the track around a 40+ hour work week.

    Update (10-4-15)
    Thanks for all the comments and for being patient. Recently after posting this video I ended up working out of state for a few months which obviously put this track on hold. Then once I was back in California the dirt wasn't too easy to work with, thanks to this major drought. However, I should be able to post a new video of the track actually being ridden fairly soon. Thanks again for your patience!

    @ kevin Okeefe, Danny Boy!
    I haven't been able to keep up on maintenance lately and haven't touched the track since sometime in April. I had a wreck in Feb. (on a different track) and suffered an AC separation type 3 in my shoulder and sold my 2012 kx250f to pay the bills. Long story short, I'll be getting another bike soon and getting back to track maintenance after that. It's just hard to keep on top of since I work roughly 60 hours a week. Roundup works too, but it's almost 70,000 square feet to cover. lol

    About how much work could you get done in one day? a lot? a little? I want to build a small track with only about 4 or 5 jumps and want to know how much I could get done with the dirt ready in front of me.

    • @mxrider337
      @mxrider337  4 роки тому

      Sorry for the late response! Must have missed your question long ago. It just depends, berms can be done in a few hours (depending if you have the dirt piled up or have to drag, scoop, and move it), and bigger jumps could take a few days. I had a few months off at the time and was able to spend 6-8 hours a day 5-6 days a week on it. I hope your track worked out too.

    • @mxrider337
      @mxrider337  11 місяців тому +1

      @christophervillarreal8565 Thank you! Surprisingly it didn't take too long to figure it all out. I had all my practice building a BMX track about a year before I built this. I also quickly learned that you don't need to use a rake (or any hand tools for that matter), you can get a consistent smooth finish with the bottom of the front end loader.

    Can you give me any tips for building the whoops? I'm having such a hard time with it, once you lay the dirt it seems too sketchy to drive over to fix stuff.

    • @mxrider337
      @mxrider337  7 років тому

      Just depends how big you want them to be. Once you figure that out try to dump the same amount of dirt (height) in the same spot for 2 or 3 buckets (tractor loader) for your width then roll over them with a bobcat (ideal) or whatever tractor you have as many times as needed to get that well rounded shape. You'll want to stake out a distance of 8' from the top center of each whoop to the top of the next one in line for a good flow. Then just repeat the steps for as many whoops as you desire; I found it was best to have an odd amount.
      Hope that helps, that's how I did it.

    • @mxrider337
      @mxrider337  7 років тому

      Also, it does take quite a few passes over each whoop to get them compacted enough. The big tractor tires helped out a lot. If there were and high or low spots I'd fix them with either the tractor or rake and shovel before moving onto the next one.

    how much was the cost of the dirt used in the video?

    • @mxrider337
      @mxrider337  8 років тому +1

      I haven't paid for any dirt; I was able to till and scrape all the dirt with the tractors scraper box from the nearly 70,000 square foot track area. You'd be amazed at how much dirt you can scrape by only going down a few inches. But it's a fine line, you don't want to go too low and have areas that will puddle up after rain.

      Yeah you're right! I didn't originally want to call it that since I removed the whoop section just after it was built (because I don't race Supercross and can't afford to get injured, amongst other reasons), but since it's tight, technical with rhythm sections and berms it's technically a Supercross layout. 👍🏼
