2024 Hangtown Amateur National Race. 40 C / MOTO 2
GoPro didn't record my better race (Moto 1), but at least I have this one. The ending was a bit rough though.
Biggest and most challenging track I've ridden; hands down!

3 practice sessions on the biggest (gnarliest) Hangtown track layout I've ever seen/ridden. Tons of sand brought in too. Good times! I've never uploaded my first run sight laps before; so this was fun (for me at least) to watch the progression through each session. Tomorrows races will be great!

*Moto 1 my GoPro only recorded under 6 minutes! Sucks, but whatever. So I've combined both motos to one. Finally put it together for my first win in this class ( 38 Int.) today, going 1-1 for the overall win! Nice way to kick off the OTHG season. =)

Last OTHG race of the 2023 season! We ( 38 Intermediate) had a great turnout with quite a few eval (evaluation race) riders that will hopefully stick with it next season and keep our class stacked. Its always more fun with a bigger class. This season had a lot of highs and lows, but I definitely learned a lot about racing, myself, and what I need to work on. Looking forward to next season. OTHG Breast Cancer Awareness annual fundraiser race, 10/15/2023 at Praire City MX (Hangtown MX National track). 38 Intermediate (Partial) videos of both. For some annoying reason my GoPro decided to stop recording during both motos; Moto 1 it was only about 3 minutes in. Moto 2 recorded roughly 8 minutes. Just one of those things. I went 3-3 for 3rd overall. Good solid day of racing with my fri...

Some kids watching saying thats slow i can do that until they get out there this is more like the 90 percent riders those pros are on a different level its crazy how fast they are
Exactly! The video does the track no justice. It even looks slow to me re-watching it. It felt like a slower race than normal too, because you don't want to overshoot or come up short. Gnarliest track I've ever ridden! You have to be so calculated.
@mxrider337 I could t even imagine man that's bad ass I raced till 2010 and messed my knee up and haven't been on a good track like that since we'll done my friend good job
@@buckinrightThank you! Unfortunately I went down at the end of moto 2 (last video uploaded) and sustained an AC type 3 shoulder separation. I'll be sidelined for 2-3 months.
Epic ending... I hope you are OK? Thanks for the video.
That hurt to watch.
Hope your going to be okay that was a bad one🙏
Yeah it sucks. I felt the rear tire loose traction right before the lip causing me to lose my good drive.
AC 3 shoulder separation (ligament tear). You know a thing or two about those. 😮
@@mxrider337 Sorry to hear😥 Hop you heal up quick.
I was There Bud 👍…Unfortunately I Didn’t Race Sunday….This was the Class I was racing on Saturday, glad your OK from that Crash 🦾
you all good?
Better this time around, but definitely banged up good. Sadly, I learned last night that I have an AC 3 shoulder separation. Thanks for checking in.
heal up quick bud!
Holy shit Stevo!! The bounce terrifies me! Hope you're not too banged up 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
Unfortunately I am, the track claimed another victim. 😕
Damn you good? Came up short damn.
Not entirely. AC 3 shoulder separation. Gnarly sport.
Dang! The ending! 🙏🏻😳
Not the way to finish, but the bike's okay. Lol Sadly, I learned last night that I have an AC 3 shoulder separation. It's a tough sport!
Thanks for the Video! I Remember how shocked I was when I Saw the Pros at Hangtown? I didn't think it was Possible to ride that fast! Lol
It's amazing to see what they can do, especially after knowing what it takes to navigate a track like that. Then they do it faster on an even more beat up track. It demands respect.
I did have the thought while watching it though - @JLee173B would have sent the Fly jump! :-)
That's not a bad bet to take. Lol
Love this video, Steve! We all want to post the highlights, but this starting from the beginning is really humanizing, and shows what we all go through when we are trying to learn a new new track. Great post, thanks!
Thanks Chris! It was the toughest track I've ever ridden; for sure!
40c ? At the end of that 1st practice looks like there's still some guys sandbagging in their 40's
Lol, I thought the same thing and was wondering how they let those guys in their with us. THEN I realized they were the teenagers and under 30 C class riders mixed in with us. But still, I was confused too.
Brings back some memories of when my brother and I used to race there... I'm glad they widened the track some. With the heat predicted for this weekend, I can see things getting a bit dusty. It was fun watching you get a little better each lap. Thanks for the video.
Thank you!
That's a lot more difficult Hangtown than we normally race. Good luck tomorrow and have fun.
I agree, that looks like they didn't dumb-down the track too much for the amateurs... good luck to you all and stay safe.
dude that looks gnarly
3:12 eats it on that little lip!
Guy in the yellow 0:47 :O
musgofassor
Dont do the Husqvarna like that dammit
Minor self induced spill at the beginning but good comeback for sure Steve, you stepped it up for sure this season! 🔥
Thanks Mike! 😁
Great race Steve, tough track and weekend!
Expert speed. More important how carefully you navigated the slower riders after the mistake. Impressive ride.
Much appreciated; thank you Garry!!
when Pat goes down your like oh no ! Nice ride man !
Thank you!! That's right, I had to make sure he was good and didn't get ran over too. Especially early in a race like that.
Hey bro do you know what days is the track open ??
Unfortunately, they are never open during the week unless it is a race weekend. Typically, there will be one practice day the day before the race.
Hey what’s your Ig I was gonna ask you some thing if it is possible
You killed it Stevo, way to send that shit!!
Thanks Mike! I want to send the big step up, but would prefer a tow-in first. Lol
Epic ride, Steve! You're putting in the work and getting the results! You looked smooth, as did the bike, nice to see it all come together. 🙂
Thanks Chris, I appreciate it! Felt good to be back on this track. Only 1 jump left to accomplish. 😅
Always sucks to lose a wheel! 4:01 Yikes!!
Good race Steve, after Corey fell you hit code red and intensity went up, made you do a sweet pass in the rollers and charge back to Pat, nice buddy
Thanks Mike! I needed a good finish to forget about the previous Moto. 😆
Good try man, sorry you went down. Way to keep trying though. 4:01 Nick almost got murdered 😮
Thank you! Can't give up, it's not an option. I had forgotten about that (4:01 moment), I was legitimately afraid for a second! I didn't want to witness that go horribly wrong.
Looking good besides those getoffs. I see my good friend Jason Perez did well👍
Thank you!
Wow, cleaned out in moto 1 and looked like you were playing it safe in moto 2 but got cleaned out again. Ouch, rough day. On second thought, any day on the bike is a good day!
Yep, always a great day when you can get out and ride! Unfortunately, these things happen in racing. The second Moto I was trying to keep from going down as I was already riding in pain; but it just wasn't my day. Better luck next year. 🤞🏼
That was me you hit. Was trying to avoid that crash in front of me
I hope you're feeling alright and didn't get any injuries from it! Not your fault, it all happens so fast and you just reacted how anyone would; I had no time to react and nowhere to go. Just a racing incident. I think my foot was smashed between your bike and mine since my header pipe was dented and everything is on that right side. Again, I hope you and your bike are okay. That was quite a hit!
@@mxrider337 bike and I beat up. my header is trashed but finished it out. All 👍 good
@user-ip3kd7et5j Good to hear you were also able to finish it out too. My header is squished, but surprisingly I didn't notice any power difference. Already ordered a replacement. Are you also in the OTHG? Your name sounds familiar.
Sweet, thanks for the video. Looks like you boys had a fantastic day of racing. My brother and I used to go there, back in the day... brings back memories. 👍
Now i see why our Heat race got red flagged! I knocked out a sweet holeshot for nothing! LOL . bad luck on that bike bouncing off and taking you down.
Congrats on the holeshot and overall riding! Those starts are the key. Starts are always key, but they're even more crucial when you have such a stacked gate. I'm thankful it was only a broken toe, and I was able to finish out the day.
yeah mammoth is 99% about the start casue those switchbacks are almost impossible to pass in . Thankfully i have lots of experience on cement starts...was a great weekend with great weather! @@mxrider337
Also thanks for posting this...got to see my holeshots in both our Heat and the Main event. @@mxrider337
What a beautiful day and track... looks like you all were having a great time. Thanks... I appreciate these types of videos. This reminds me of when my brother used to travel all around racing... yes, we even raced Mammoth. 👍
That track was really fun and challenging, and yes, very beautiful out there too. Nice to get away from the high heat and get some fresh air as well.
Great riding Steve just bad luck with those two crashes not your fault.
@JLee173B Thank you Jon, I appreciate that. I was definitely bummed to get caught up in that mess, but thankful to get a full restart and qualify 10th for the Final race. Then the 2nd time I went down... well, that's just racing. We were running close and he lost traction of the rear and swept my front wheel out. Managed a solid 15th out of 37 with a broken toe. I'm alright with that.
That's insane how nice you built it. How long did it take for you to master the tractor to get it looking that clean?
@christophervillarreal8565 Thank you! Surprisingly it didn't take too long to figure it all out. I had all my practice building a BMX track about a year before I built this. I also quickly learned that you don't need to use a rake (or any hand tools for that matter), you can get a consistent smooth finish with the bottom of the front end loader.
That park job still cracking me up. Good riding out there man.
Thank you Kelly! It didn't seem like it was that long watching the playback; but in real time it sure did. Hahaha
It was great meeting and racing with you. 514v.
You too Matt! Good times and a fun track. See you around at some more races soon.
some booters out there....
Haha, you know it! That's probably why I loved it and can't wait to go back.
Nice...
👍🏼Thanks
Thanks brother, this brought back some memories! Hangtown was the biggest race for me each year for a long time. I would love to do it again on a smoker!!
It was a great time on a challenging track, but well worth it! I also raced the Vet open (for more track time) and was toast after this Moto since it was the 4th of my day. Good times.
thanks buddy!
😱😱Glad you weren't seriously hurt and you were able to ride in your other motos later in the day💪.
Thank you!! I'm feeling the affects today, that's for sure. I may need to see if I can get ibuprofen to sponsor me. 🤔 😅
*Promosm*
Steve caught a rut then lost the front end sucks, but greased finish line, big accomplishment made it look easy. You got the speed, just keep riding and you will be consistently at the top. 💪
Thanks Buzz, I appreciate it! I've been bummed out a bit lately and it's from the lack of consistent riding. Once I'm able to get back on my home track I will make a section or two I can purposely make rutted to practice deep turns and start hitting drills. 💪🏽
@@mxrider337 Pat and I better get invites!
greased the finish line jump!🤘
Oooh yes!! 😁
This was such a gnarly ride. The track was treacherous. Still fun to watch a year later. Great job bro.
No joke, it was such a blast. Thank you! Looking forward to this June to do it again. 😀
Great ride Steve. Way to make all those passes in the opening laps.
Thank you very much! Those first 2 laps are crucial to staying up front. 😁
