I played with him in WH II and i found it really strange that he has no Diplomacy bonuses with Alarielle for obvious reasons. He is her Ward and secret lover. Either you play with him or with her if you become powerful the other starts to hate you and even declare war on you. It is even more ridiculous if you play with the Everqueen. Imagine the father of your daughter, your bodyguard start a civil war by declaring war on you for uniting Ulthuan as the Everqueen. No words...
I didn't give her any news during some months, prefering to wage wars against so called "vampirates". Plus, he was bad in bed. Seems like legit reasons to a woman.
I think your diplomacy might be lacking (psst, just spam court intrigue improve relations action, and gift the other faction a whole lot of gold and it should smooth everything over).
I just played a Tyrion campaign on Very Hard, had an absolute blast building nothing but archers/spearmen armies backed by High Magic. I found that a fun opening move was to take Lysean, and then immediately move on Caledor. I managed to catch Noct in March stance before he could take any settlements, and then I just annihilated Caledor before sweeping north, had the donut under high elf control in the first twenty turns. Aggressive expansionism forever!
The little intro makes me want to go full warmonger Tyrion, specing into blood of Anerion, and drawing the sword of Khaine. Maybe also declaring war on other high elves, pretending you are Malakith, and secretly the true phoenix king.
If you're doing an archer spam stack LSG with shields are pretty much pulling double duty as spearmen and archers, they're three time the cost but take up only 1 slot. You could argue that it would be better to have more armies, i'd argue that the supply lines increases makes up for the difference of having 5 LSG in your frontlines. Having a frontline that still has silver shields and can shoot back is really good.
Or you could have 4-6 spearmen/silverin guard and a noble/handmaiden and/or a loremaster. Both spearmen and silverin guard do their job of frontlining a lot better than LSG (having 120 entities instead of 90) while cheaper archers have longer range and the same projectile damage.
Something to mention about LSG vs archers and Spearman is that they are 3x the upkeep, one archer and one Spearman together are cheaper and better than one LSG
Whoever buys those light armor archers has no idea of economy. Armor 40 or 50 (what was it?) is basically armor 0, those are not the dark elves, where shields on the darkshots really matter, because otherwise you get trolled by skeleton archers. The only thing you get from them is a slightly better auto resolve, but they aren’t worth the extra cost and definitely not the building you waste to recruit them and that stops you from pulling of your economy quickly.
Sorry I am late to the party but you mentioned High Elves are generating the most of their gold through trade is that absolute necessary or is still managable without ? I really like the high elves but I absolute hate trade mechanics in games generally if thats really necessary I have to skip them entirely :/
You can manage without trade. Although it means building differently, and you are losing some surplus income, and are not benefiting from many of the high elves stacking bonuses to trade income. It also means you're not taking full advantage of your good diplomatic relations with all other factions (through character bonuses, and court intrigue). Although, my recommend if you don't want to bother with trade is playing as the Orcs or the Beastmen, because then you can't trade. ;P
Do you own the Warden and the Paunch DLC? If not, you also don't have Silverin Guards, Rangers, War Lions, Lion Chariots, and Arcane Phoenix. It's annoying but you need that DLC for the full High Elf Experience even if you don't want to play Eltharion.
