Monsters in the Parasol has one of the strangest videos I've ever seen, but it caught my attention, and made me a QOTSA fan. One of my all time favorite songs is Domesticated Animals, great vocals on that track.
The Spanish DJ at the end of the song only makes sense if you listen to the album through. The format of the album is someone driving and changing the station where each new “station” is a new song and new DJ. It really makes for a nice flow. This is “back in the old days” when bands made albums instead of focusing on singles.
For years the only version I heard of this was something I got off limewire so I thought the Spanish announcer was from an actual radio station someone had ripped the song from😂 I liked that though
While this combination is probably what helped them break out, I still prefer the Desert Sessions version of 'You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar but I Feel Like a Millionaire'.
@@babaoriley1 " ....Like Clockwork" is an amazing album too. Can you believe we almost lost Josh? I really like how almost every QOTSA album is a growth from the last.
THE ENDING - this was a concept album, as if you are listening to the radio, riding in the desert. The texture in-between the songs is like flipping through the radio in your car. . :)
Good ear, Lex! You picked up the Foo Fighters vibe, with their founder and singer, Dave Grohl, on drums here. 'Course, he was Nirvana's drummer first. Good job
I guess what she means by mixed with White Stripes is the Blues feel of the song. Well Blues is the roots of rock so it makes sense that a lot of rock sounds like it. To me this sounds a lot like ZZ Top.
Lex: "Like a cross between White Stripes and Foo Fighters." I'd say that's pretty on the money! The ear keeps getting better and better. Ironically, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters played drums on this album. They're all good buddies and toured together a lot. He played drums for Tenacious D as well, who were very popular at the time. Also good buddies. There's definitely a similarity in the Foo/Queens sound, but I would say Queens is more a combination of Tool and/or Kyuss and Foo Fighters. But I can see a bit of the vocal similarity in the Stripes stuff. Dope reaction guys! QotSA got some killer music, especially from this album and 'Rated R'; looking forward to the next one!
Everyone already thought Dave Grohl was a killer drummer when Nirvana was still around, but he got even better the following decade, as can be heard on this album (Songs For The Deaf), and his work with Them Crooked Vultures (which also includes Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme and Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones), and Killing Joke.
YESSSS! Finally. Keep going down the QOTSA rabbit hole, you need this in your life! Got love for you guys, keep doing what you do. Also, there self titled album is the most awesome road trip album there is!🤘🏻
They only post reactions to poll winners on their live streams. Maybe privately they might listen to other songs requested on the comments, than again they might not .
I love how they all said they loved 3 different parts of the song and Lexi looks at them like “ what the ?!” I guess that a sign that it’s a great song 😂
Palm Springs band. An offshoot is The Eagles of Death Metal, who were onstage at the Bataclan when it was among several sites targeted during the 2015 Paris terrorist attack in 2015.
I remember singer/guitarist, Josh Homme doing an episode with Anthony Bourdain on No Reservations back in the day. I might have to find that one and watch it again.
Finally! Josh Homme is a demigod singer and guitarist and Dave Grohl was killing it on the drums. Now listen to Go With the Flow, The Lost Art of Keeping a Secret, 3s & 7s, Autopilot and Hangin Tree.
Yesss, killer album, can't go wrong with QOTSA. For anyone who has the craving for something similar, check out Deaf Radio's album Alarm, could easily be a kinda early QOTSA album.
Check out Them Crooked Vultures next. It has the lead singer of Queens of the Stone Age, Dave Grohl of FF/Nirvana on drums, and John Paul Jones of Led Zepplin on bass. They have some killer songs!
I'm the dude that suggested you guys listen to this song when you were doing foo fighter songs. 👍Grohl was tearing it up on this one. I've seen other people just copy other peoples songs that they review. I'm glad you guys are going off the beaten path.
Queens of the Stone Age are amazing, Josh Homme is an excellent songwriter and is always creatively changing-up his sound. He used to play with Kyuss, and co-founded The Eagles of Death Metal (not death metal - really wicked rock&roll) He also does "The Desert Sessions" with invite-only artists for a song-writing retreat, all kinds of creative music comes out. The album has a theme of driving across the desert and listening to the radio - the ending was one of the "between the tracks" blurbs.
They’re a great band, each album evolves to something different and they hold on to their sound. Like Clockwork is my favorite album, glad you’ve touched on the Queens. Keep Rocking, great show👍
The dude at the end says something along the lines of "I´m DJ some or other, on radio Quetzalcoatl, an all rock station. Up next, we´re gonna be listening to some more tracks by Queens of the Stone Age. This music goes very savage, you´ll see. Next song is... "
3's and 7's is what Berto is remembering. Probably their 2nd most well known song, because of rockband. Ankther fun song off that album is "I'm Designer", but you'd probably want a lyric video, because the lyrics are very clever.
The radio interference at the end of the track flows though the album between songs. Again it's one of those albums that sounds best listened to from beginning to end. Killer beats from Dave Grohl on this album. He took a bit of a brief hiatus from the Foo Fighters around 2003/2004 and played drums on this album, Killing Joke's second self titled album (which is well worth checking out ) as well as his own full on metal album Probot which he recorded with loads of metal and thrash guest singers (this is so worth checking out, especially "Shake Your Blood" with Lemmy from Motorhead singing). As far as Queens go, for me, this is one of their finest albums.
One of the few times where the accompanying video clip actually adds to the experience - Dave Grohl going absolute beast mode on the drums will always be entertaining.
I have never come across anybody that is better than Lex. At catching the FEEL of a song. And then putting it perfectly into words. How does she DO that? I saw the Offspring Come Out and Play reaction and she described the guitar as what you would hear at a dry Oasis in the desert or something like that. INSTANTLY I put the song in my head as a soundtrack to the old Sega Genesis Aladdin game.......it works PERFECTLY. 👍👍 two thumbs for Lex's imagination
I wish you would watch live videos or the ones the band made and read lyrics on closed captioning or print them off to read along ... I feel like it would be more entertaining to watch videos! love your reactions keep up the good work
Guys, you have got to get into some more Queens Of The Stone Age! They are one of the greatest modern rock bands out there and have been doing it since the 90's, not to mention they're my favorite band. If you come back to them you gotta check out "Lost Art Of Keeping A Secret" but they have SO MANY amazing songs to hit. Great choice, guys! Very cool band! They took the Stoner Rock genre to mainstreem, at least here in Brazil. I'm glad I saw them live in Rock in Rio back in 2001. Little Sister and Go with the flow are must hear songs. Keep it up!
Crazy thing about QotSA is how varied the fan base is- the old school stoner fans of Kyuss are there, there's young girls who jam to this music, trendy guys, metal heads, alt kids. It's quite a scene. Only fanbase better to rock out to is Cyprus Hill- just a smokey haze of gang bangers, alot of Pantera shirts and long hair in the mix and every variety of stoner known to man.
That's Dave Grohl, drummer from Nirvana and front man of the Foo Fighters on the drums. I remember being excited for this album to hear him on drums again and it blew me away. Such a good album.
You guys hit the nail on the head with so many points. Josh Homme, the front man of the band, is known for nasty guitar licks with effortlessly clean vocals.
I'm glad you said Foo Fighters because the drummer was Dave Grohl from Foo Fighter's! One of the best drummers of all time in my opinion. I am from Youngstown, Ohio and he lived in Warren Ohio at some point in his life. There is Dave Grohl alley in Warren they have the biggest drumsticks and it is dedicated to him. He has done shows locally for free on a whim because he is that amazing.
"I like the beat."
"I like the riff."
" I like the vocals."
You are all correct!
A kickass song by a kickass band!
Top 5 rock song since 2000
“It’s like an upbeat vampire song.”
Holy shit that is not something that I ever would have thought of myself but it’s 100% accurate.
This is true I only thought it after she said it.
Yo! I never thought of it that way!!
I agree one hundred percent with that statement!!
The things she says are so funny and awesome
Lexiquism
The drums are killer in this song. Amazing drums by Dave Grohl.
Josh is a pretty good drummer too, but ya, Dave is a beast on this.
yeaasss! So good.
Yesssssssss🔥🔥🔥🔥
The video makes it even better.
How long was Dave a member for them?
The video is crazy to this song.”Go with the flow” song and video are masterpieces.”Little Sister “ and “Make it wit chu” are awesome as well
Gotta throw in I sat by the ocean aswell
3's and 7's
Go with the Flow is my fav by them, always puts me in a good mood!
Monsters in the Parasol has one of the strangest videos I've ever seen, but it caught my attention, and made me a QOTSA fan. One of my all time favorite songs is Domesticated Animals, great vocals on that track.
Hanging Tree, You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar, But I Feel Like a Millionaire....really this whole album
The drummer in this band, the drummer in Nirvana and the singer in the Foo Fighters are triplets. Very talented family.
LMAO!! Maybe...
Yes they even share the same first name lmao
they do have quite different hair and facial hair though.
@@noor6668 if its good enough for George Foreman.

@@spankycooper Almost twenty years. That is quite a bit of time. Practically a lifetime ago nowadays.
bands still do just got to stop listening to radio and go to the u deerhound scenes. Turnstile, Black Country, New Road, King Gizzard etc etc
For years the only version I heard of this was something I got off limewire so I thought the Spanish announcer was from an actual radio station someone had ripped the song from😂 I liked that though
What I love about QOTSA is the contrast between Josh's delicate tenor & the dirty guitars & drums. Unusual & highly effective.
"Hard enough for the guys, sweet enough for the ladies"
While this combination is probably what helped them break out, I still prefer the Desert Sessions version of 'You Think I Ain't Worth a Dollar but I Feel Like a Millionaire'.
Finally, QOTSA is one of my favorite bands. Josh Homme is a musical genius. Everything he does is awesome IMO.
Facts!!! 🤘🤘🤘
Not everything 😬
"I sat by the ocean" is good.
In my head
@@babaoriley1 " ....Like Clockwork" is an amazing album too. Can you believe we almost lost Josh? I really like how almost every QOTSA album is a growth from the last.
Flawless album. I have been rocking this album since it's release in 2001. Never gets old. QOTSA is one of the best rock bands of the past 30 years.
I saw them in Raleigh N.C. without Dave Grohl..it sucked. I think they aren't as good live or it was a off night.
Dave Grohl is a beast on this song and album. That's why you were getting the Foo Fighters vibes Lex
You said it.
Whoa! I had zero clue that Dave was on this album. And I used to listen to this song constantly and consider myself a pretty big Grohl fan. Wild.

"I like the vocals?"
That was good. 1:58 lol Love you all.
Hippy Metal!
Lex spotted the Foo Fighters influence. I got to see this band live with Dave Grohl drumming. Oh my golly.
Should check out Them Crooked Vultures. That is Josh Homme, Dave Grohl, and John Paul Jones (the bassist for Led Zeppelin). Awesome, awesome stuff!
Hell yeah!!!
They were a real good surprise! You could hear each of them in each track. I mean their influence, their DNA.
Great band. Might have given me permanent hearing loss after seeing them live.

Palm Springs band. An offshoot is The Eagles of Death Metal, who were onstage at the Bataclan when it was among several sites targeted during the 2015 Paris terrorist attack in 2015.
The songs are all linked by "radio DJs," kind of the way The Who put fake ads between songs on "The Who Sell Out."
Check out another band that Queens is associated with. They are called Eagles of Death Metal. Don’t Speak is a banger!
Eagles of Death Metal are as awesome as they are absurd - Ridiculously good time to be had there.
They came into the news big time because of the bataclan incident.
