“How can we win when fools can be kings? Don’t waste your time or time will waste you.” Dude those two lines cut deep into my soul. 🥶🥶🥶🥶
Became especially poignant in 2016
@@Psianthactually im gonna give the win to napolean

FYI the live versions of Muse songs are incredible. They are easily one of the top touring acts of the past 15 years.
Yeah but they insist on seeing the lyrics, so I don't think we will ever get live versions.
...this always reminds me of "Telstar"...look it up Ron if you don't know it, take you a minute.
@@raymo6795 I’m sure that’s not a coincidence.
This!
@@yacava ..ya think Yacava? Maybe,I guess. Telstar is from the late 50s by a British band (The Tornadoes). I guess maybe Muse may have copied ( conscious or sub- conscious) Telstar….what evs, they are both cool songs
Brad: "You know how some artists will be like 'uh the sky is blue, whoops, microwave went off, bam, the zipper, up.' like, what are you even talking about?"
I felt that.
Bellamy is classically trained and a lot of Muse's pieces have an operatic or symphonic feel to them. My son is a pianist and I gave him a book of the best piano movements from Muse, and there are a few in there that still trip him up. What you are hearing is some serious composition.
Actually. Matt Isnt classically trained. There is an interview from OOS era where he says he isnt classically trained.
@@onewhiteboi4993 yup - he taught himself piano.
You do have a fanciful imagination Steve.
There's actually no such thing as "classically trained" it's just one of those pretentious phrases people use.
Trained or not he is an absolute musical genius
You'd both love "Hysteria" from their 2003 album "Absolution." An intense banger of a tune with an incredible bass line. It's a more straightforward song than "Knights of Cydonia" which I believe you'll really appreciate. Enjoy!
People saying listen to this live, but this also has one of the greatest music videos as well
I've been lucky to have seen these guys live a few times and this song is mental when you're there among the masses jumping and singing along, awesome stadium anthem. These lads play hard and loud, much heavier than people expect. One of the best bands ever. You should now react to a live version to get a better vibe. A virtuoso band.
Singer/guitarist Matthew Bellamy's father George Bellamy was the rhythm guitarist of The Tornados from 1962-1965. They had a huge hit with Telstar. When you listen to this number you can see where Matthew got his inspiration for Knights of Cydonia
My first rock concert ever was Muse opening before anyone knew who they were, Foo Fighters, and Red Hot Chili Peppers as the main act back in 2000. :P
Thank you. One of my faves. The Muse rabbit hole is deep. The 3 of them have been together since high school. Bellamy invents sounds and electronics. They are each vital to the package.
You need to listen to the whole "Origin of Symmetry" Album! It's a freakin masterpiece and a work of art!
Glad someone is bigging up that great album. 🤘🤘
Showbiz is great too!
@@Micah_4D yeah I like it. Gems on there for sure. 👌
This man is speaking facts, the whole album is a banger.
I need the full version of "The sky is blue, whoops microwave went off, bam, the zipper, up".
This song is absolutely amazing live. Chris, the bassist brings out a harmonica and the intro somehow sounds even more epic than it already is. I've seen Muse twice and it is always a hell of a show. We need more from the Origin of Symmetry and Absolution albums in particular. If I were to list some songs to recommend, I'd just be listing damn near all of them :P
Chris plays “Man with a Harmonica” by Ennio Morricone from the movie “Once Upon a time in the West”.
@@ryanlazarus3381 yes that's why it's a masterpiece of a show
You should check out the Tornadoes - “Telstar”. It was released in 1962. Matt Bellamy’s father was the guitarist in the Tornadoes and “Knights of Cysonia” is a sort of tribute to that song.
OMG! That's something few of us Muse fans knew, so thanks for that.
This song was partially inspired by a song called 'Telstar' by a band called 'The Tornadoes'.
Matt Bellamys dad George Bellamy was a guitarist in that band and the song 'Telstar' was one of the first songs by a British artist to top the US charts as well as being one of the first purely instrumental songs to do so.
Telstar is soooo good too, has this kind of nostalgic and melancholic melody. I love it
I looooove this song!!!! And "Supermassive Black Hole". That's always awesome.
All of "Black Holes and Revelations" are awesome.
Like so many have already mentioned, the live shows from these guys are quite spectacular and sounds just as good, if not even better than the studio versions. Their sound quality live is something I rarely hear from other concerts.
I love the vocals in the breakdown. His voice is truly epic
Admittedly, "Knights Of Cydonia" is an acquired taste, and one of their more experimental songs to receive radio airplay. Muse have a wide variety of sound in their discography. The following is a list of all their Top 10 hits on Alternative:
"Time Is Running Out" (#9 in 2004)
"Hysteria (I Want It Now)" (#9 in 2005)
"Knights Of Cydonia" (#10 in 2006)
"Starlight" (#2 in 2007)
"Supermassive Black Hole" (#6 in 2007)
"Uprising" (#1 in 2009)
"Resistance" (#1 in 2010)
"Undisclosed Desires" (#4 in 2010)
"Madness" (#1 in 2012)
"Panic Station" (#2 in 2013)
"Dead Inside" (#1 in 2015)
"Mercy" (#10 in 2015)
"Dig Down" (#3 in 2017)
"Thought Contagion" (#1 in 2018)
"Something Human" (#10 in 2018)
"Pressure" (#5 in 2019)
"Won't Stand Down" (currently in its third week at #3 as of the April 2, 2022 chart)
Another popular Muse song that somehow did not chart on Alternative is "Reapers" (#2 on Mainstream Rock in 2016).
"Madness" is their biggest hit, and either it or "Uprising" is their signature song. If I had to narrow the list above down to my five favorites, I'd say:
"Hysteria (I Want It Now)"
"Supermassive Black Hole"
"Undisclosed Desires"
"Dead Inside"
"Reapers"
I believe this to be one of the greatest songs ever written. Absolute masterpiece!
I do think this is one of a handful of songs that has a live version that surpasses the album version. The energy is just insane, and it doesn't take away from the instrumental at all.
You need to see them live, they are phenomenal.
I think with this song, the Sci-fi/Spaghetti Western/Martial Arts video compliments it well and make it easier to understand in a way.
Thank you thank you, one of my favorite songs ever.
@Brad - that pause was PERFECT! BRAVO!!
Muse described this song as 40 years of rock history in 6 minutes. Muse are the best live act of the 21st century, I recommend plug in baby at Rome, hysteria at Wembley and assassin at the mayan to get you started
I friggin' love this song. Song doesn't do it justice, this is an masterpiece of epic proportions
I have never seen a live performance as epic as this song! Muse are from another planet
Check out muse live at Wembley 2007, amazing concert and they're even better live
I managed to get into the mosh pit in time for this song at one of their concerts a few years ago.
It was Epic!
Coming from Absolution to this album when it released was crazy. Such a different feel and experience as a whole. IMO it took the band to the next level so hard. Supermassive Black Holes was a perfect single, but this album is flawless start to finish. Muse just never disappoints for me. They have consistently released amazing albums since Showbiz and I am very much looking forward to their new album.
Muse puts out nothing but bangers. This one was on GH3 and the mere memory made my fingers go on strike lol
Should have seen the video! They are also a very good live band. They are a space rock, shoe gaze prog rock band. Very interesting group and sound. Great singing voice. Like Queen and Radiohead merged together. Real artsy band.
Matt Bellamy - writer, vocals, guitar, keyboards, fuckn TALENTED!!! You need to see their live stuff to understand.
I think like Brad that the song has a meaning, but then I listen to it and all I can think of is cowboys with laser guns
oh man. there is so many great tracks (and albums) by this band
Muse has so many epic songs and I can’t believe they don’t listen more to this awesome band
Knights of Cydonia draws a lot of inspiration from the spaghetti westerns of the 70s which brought Clint Eastward to fame (The Man With no Name; The Good, The Bad & The Ugly; A fistful Of Dollars, etc).
If you listen to some of Ennio Morricono's classic soundtracks from those you'll realise this has a similar feel but done as a rock opera. One of the things I love about this track is how the drugs sound like the hoofbeats of galloping horses.
This song kicks major ass. Blast this shit flying down a deserted highway like I did back in the day....
the music video is nuts for this!!
This is probably my favorite Muse song ever. Muse as a whole is incredible though.
They've been rubbish for the past decade, though (especially the songwriting yuck)
@@moonillusions832 I dunno. I quite liked a lot of the Drones album, and even a few from Simulation Theory. I still prefer their older stuff, but I still think most of their recent stuff is decent.
Glad you folks are getting into Muse and glad you liked it so much Brad. I think Muse are kind of like Queen for a new generation. Super tight, simple but profound lyrics, operatic sensibilities, sing along energy and total domination during live performances. You should hear their track New Born.
Another great song! Thank you for being so fun.
That's the coolest electric kazoo in all rock.
The music video for this one is amazing!
There's only one word which encapsulates this whole albums sound: Epic.
They are a band that comes alive on stage, so taking in a live performance should be on a bucket list. Plug in Baby is another yous should take in.
First heard of this band/song when I watched this gorgeous stop motion animated Batman fan film. The name escapes me but the song fits the animation perfectly!
Guys I love it, your smiles were fucking infectious, can I demand more(really nicely and hopefully tho), I don't care which ones they all slap differently 💓💓💓
I love this song so damn much. It's just such a good time (yes the live version is even better). The entire "Supermassive Black Hole" album is a worthwhile trip
This song is really fun to play on guitar
Love to see Brad so expressive... the tables were turned on this one!
Great band. Another of my favorites
Matt Bellamy's dad (George) was in an instrumental band called the TORNADOS. They were famous for a 1962 song called Telstar. This Muse tune sounds very similar.
The music video for this song might just be the greatest of all time.
Butterflies and hurricanes and hysteria are must listens
Now I need some peanut butter straight from the jar.
Absolutely Love Muse and this song!!!! 🤗❤✌
This is a rare video that Brad is leading the interpretation discussion. I dug that.
The use of instruments to simulate the hoofbeats of a galloping horse reminds of that Byron poem Pam from "Archer" has tattooed on her back, "The Death of Sennacherib". The cadence of that is also meant to evoke a galloping horse, and also in the context of cavalry.
Fantastic band
To me, Muse sounds like a modern day Queen. Very operatic vocals and songs that have parts that can sound like completely different songs. And then this song specifically is like a Space Western Star Wars. Starts off painting a picture of a totalitarian futureworld full off downtrodden people, and then the vocal breakdown is the build up and pinnacle of the rebellion leading to the headbanging, hard rock final battle to save mankind.
These guys are a great concert to go to. I seen them live in Seattle. It was epic!
This song is an entire experience, like others have said defo watch it live but the video is also something special and shouldn’t be missed!
My daughter actually introduced me to this song. Absolutely love it!
you need to see the Live version and the video - amazing stuff!
Must see a live video of this! It's a crazy crowd experience.
I'm sure I'm not the first to say that you really need to see/hear this live. Try the version from Rome Olympic Stadium. Muse are definitely at their best live. See it and you will understand.
Legendary Guitar Hero song.
Brutal, but one of the most fun songs to play in the game.
The Live At Rome Olympic Stadium is on a whole new level. It’s such a great performance and a fantastic way to see how much creativity goes into this song when you can see what they do to bring it to a live audience
Best live band. You can’t see their instrumental and vocal skills without watching live. It’s only 3 people!
A piece of advice for Muse - they are unquestionably one of the greatest live bands alive, and I'd absolutely recommend watching live performances when reacting to their music for the first time
Must watch a live performance!
Telstar by the Tornadoes in 1962 was actually a huge influence on this song, so I recommend listening to it and comparing it to this song. Also, some background trivia was that George Bellamy, a guitarist in the Tornadoes was actually the father of Matt Bellamy, the lead guitarist of Muse.
This song is such a trip. Love to put it on and just go along for the ride.
Brad hits the message straight on. This was very Queen like and one of my favorites from Muse. The are so underrated because most of their songs never reach mainstream. Another thrill ride of a song is Supremacy and there is a killer rift in this one to Lex. I personally like their earlier music better but overall an amazing band 👍👍👍👍
Great song Awesome band!
This is kind of a mix of a spaghetti western and Muse's Matt Bellamy's father's band The Tornados. You should check out The Tornados - Telstar. It's an instrumental, though.
Hear Knights of Cydonia anywhere and anytime and the world stops for some serious air drumming, thanks Brad and Lex, that got my day going 😊Just a quick nonsense story, was invited out to a gig where the band were awful and so egotistical but had quite a following, they asked the 'crowd' what they wanted them to play and people were shouting out, Beatles, Abba, you know safe middle of the road stuff, I shouted out Kof C and they went pale and pretended they hadn't heard me, oh they heard me alright!!
They are hands down incredible live. Saw them at Wembley in 2007. Easily my top 5
Seeing these guys live in June and to say I'm excited is an understatement!!
To me this song is a cross between an old clint Eastwood spaghetti western and a Sci fi movie theme.
Or dark tower roland deschain
The best performance of this song was on a show called " later with jools holland " back in 2006 it's still on UA-cam it's fantsatic.
Everyone bringing up live performances - but ya'll REALLY need to watch the music video, it's fantastic!!! One of my favorites!
For a really jaw dropping Muse song - try Micro Cuts from their earlier album Origin of Symmetry. He sings in a falsetto for a lot of the song. It is really cool.
You should check out some of the older Muse. Songs like New Born, Plug in Baby, Stockholm Syndrome, Hysteria are all amazing... And Muse is always best live :)
Brad! Nailed it. Think about this song while thinking about the people in Kiev. “The time has come to fight for my rights.” “Don’t waste your time or time will waste you.” Great song.
These guys were a fresh new sound. Great vocals.
I think with Muse you need to see a few of their songs starting with Plug in Baby and then going through Unintended, Soldiers Poem back to Starlight (all awesome!).
When I feel like messing with people I show them the music video for Knights of Cydonia and tell them that the video is based on true events from my life.
I haven't heard this song in ages. Its fantastic.
muse has a great catalog and the live stuff is great
Brad's on top of shit today. Love to see it. This is the definition of artsy-fartsy prog rock but it also pumps up all the Chads and Stacys with the sick riffs and tribal messaging.
Wait... The fuck am I talking like this for?
Incel detected
You guys need to watch some old spaghetti westerns, this is old western space music, top notch work
The beginning instrumental reminds me of a spaghetti western.
Muse is an awesome band, you definetly at least once need to react to one of their live performances, they are really good live.
I recommend one of these: Hysteria, New Born, Plug in Baby or Bliss
This was an epic guitar hero song that Brad should know haha! Might have been rockband...
the song is good..the music video is an absolute masterpiece
Saw them live about 8 years ago, outstanding. You can literally listen to all (i can't judge their last albums though) but the origin of symmetry, showbiz and more albums are excellent, there is not bad track. Muse a very experimental, extremely gifted. Their style is often classified as progressif rock but you can add more. It's more a media thing to try to classify and not a bad thing neither having said that
One of the best rock bands.
I love Muse. An amazing band that the rest of the world absolutely loves, yet they are relatively unknown in the United States. You cannot got wrong listening to any of their songs. I really look forward to you guys hearing more of them! You should definitely give "Plug In Baby" a listen.
