The wrecker is just plain awesome. It's not something converted from a road vehicle to an off-road one it is purpose built for the type recoveries that Matt is called upon to do. Matt should be so proud to say I (and crew) built that. I remember the build from the time the frame was just chalk marks on the floor. Not that this recovery was any challenge for it I have seen it at it's best where nothing else could of got the job done but it just makes me smile everytime I see it in action knowing that it is definitely one of a kind and there will never be another just like it. Matt usually has a smile on his face every time he is behind the wheel and rightfully so. Don't get me wrong I love the Morrvair also, it's one mean machine too. I started watching when all he had to work with was the almost stock XJ and a Bubba brand tow rope and no winch, just yanked everything out. Things have changed over the years and Matt has become very successful and rightfully so from all his hard work, great family and awesome crew. I forgot to include generosity also. Thanks for the ride.
We love all about this sort of video...the vehicles, the banta, the impressive scale of your countryside. It may surprise you to know that in most of yorp where we live people really do not shoot up all the remote, abandonned wrecked vehicles....and you know why? Cos people get by perfectly well without guns....
Damn, but this doesn't surprise me. In 1991, I drove the ex gf's little Hyundai, up what looked like a small bush road N.E of Sudbury, Ontario. It got rockier, smaller; a small stream had channeled out the road, a felled tree had to be pulled aside, etc. I had to put a rock under one front wheel to keep it from spinning while hung up. ALL with TWO wheel drive. No big deal. I emerged off some other grassy tracks miles away, stopped for gas and commented to the attendant. "That road's pretty bad." He told me- "That's NOT a road. That's a skidoo trail." !
Per Kevin and Brittany, blue on OnX means that path is verified/validated recently. I think green just means it hasn't been verified within a year, or 6 months. Blue might mean someone with OnX has driven that road and verified that it is still drivable. OnX is community-driven, so everyone together helps rate the trails, provide pictures, and verify trails.
@@melin1969I have OnX as well. There is a learning curve, as is the case with ANY off road map application. I got mine after years of extensive off road riding with friend using OnX in Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Oregon, California. He used to use 'Avenza', which is popular in Utah. OnX is the best of the off road apps. But there will be instances with any app where ambiguities pop up about route selection, road conditions, etc.

I understand the adventure and the beautiful scenery, but going out that deep into it where the road almost doesn't exist in a 2WD vehicle is probably not wise. But having a rescue outfit like MORR that will go out that far is priceless. The wrecker remains an amazing vehicle. Great video.
Matt's being a hypocrite here and bashing his customer for going as far as he can in 2wd 😂 which isn't even the problem. That guy didn't get stuck, he had an equipment failure and was obviously prepared for just such an occasion.
@@kennethbrown8723 possible but probable is something I couldn't answer. Driveline shock is usually a big factor with major breakages. Either way the guy was prepared and didn't require any kind of emergency services

This particularly promising production packs a plethora of pleasing and picturesque panoramas, paired with powerful, poignant performances. Profoundly packed with potential, they propel us into a paradise of pixels. The prospect of peering at this piece is purely a privilege. In short, I am primed for the next premier presentation!
Reminds me of my recent adventure. Destroyed my crank sensor some how 60 miles one way out into the az forest with no cell reception or cb reception. Hiked 5 miles to find cell reception. I had 600$ to my name and Nobody would even get in their trucks for less then 2k$. My truck..me the wife 3 cats a dog and my tiny travel trailer. Spent many hours stuck in a deep canyon trying to go to a place called sheep bridge. At some point some random unknown person called and paid for a big chunk of the tow bill for me to get home. Took 3 days but I managed to get my truck trailer, all animals me and wifey home safe. We live full time in this set up and have been through many adventures since. But I just felt this related to my recent experience and wanted to share.
I've been following you guys forever👍 today I'm sitting out here in the Arizona strip kind of bored watching some old recovery videos and I seen this one which I've watched when it first come out but I watched it again you guys do what I love doing when you're in the desert go look at all the stuff and when you flipped and seen the date on that old truck and it said 1961 and both you guys said that's not that old 😮 I was born in 1961 you're my heroes now 😂 I'm a retired trucker now so got nothing to do but watch the donkeys and the roadrunners See you out in the desert somewhere💯👍🏜
Admiration for the guy who took his rig that far with 2wd, but this is the exact reason I didn't even consider a 2wd when I bought my truck. To me, the 2 main points of having a truck are towing capacity and 4wd.
For me the two main points are reliability and ease of repairs hence why I chose a 4cyl Tacoma 2wd. I actually use my truck daily for my self employed service job. Not all of us truck guys wanna mall crawl. Some of us actually use our trucks to make us $$$
Everyone knows the MORR crew has safety as their #5 priority, oh wait that is Robbie. Good thing that wasn't a rusted Corvair, otherwise you would have had to figure out how to get that out too. Holy crap I don't even know how the customer got their car there... half the time the story is just as good as the recovery.
Quite a testament to the off-road capability of Toyota Tacomas with half decent ATs. I've got the same truck in 4x4 TRD OR trim, and I rarely touch 4WD, even on some pretty gnarly terrain. If the driver didn't have drivetrain issues, and 4WD to boot, I bet they could've made it out just fine. A very capable platform when it's in the hands of an experienced wheeler.
Tom and Matt are brothers from different mothers. Either would gladly lay down his life for the other. You can see that in the way the interact with each other compared to others. That special bond is undeniable. We're not all lucky enough to have that kind of friend...
Great video. I noticed this is an older video sometime before his vacation since the glass on the wrecker was still broken, and a few videos back it was just repaired. 😊
At 25:45 - Tom: "Go left and ride out the way we came in?". Mat: "Yeah. We know that way and there's a burro if we get hungry". Earlier when spotting the burro on the way in - Mat: "What do you call a baby burro?" .... "A burrito". Haha. I love Mat's dry and self-depreciating sense of humour, he'd fit right in here in Australia, especially out bush.
With all due respect, I’m definitely knocking you off the podium, but you’ll always be the first! Thank you for the opportunity, but that doesn’t mean I’m gonna take it easy on yah, worlds second largest off-road wrecker will be taking silver ! I said with all due respect!
Remember that first place is for most excitement, not the easiest pull. And silver isn't exactly the best welding material ;-) So make sure Hellboy is equipped with a manly horn and plenty of lights (these are things Matt doesn't have)
Gotta say, as a Englishman whose only exposure to the US is NYC, the degree of "remoteness" you have on your doorstep is awesome - in the most literal sense. You can certainly get lost in the north of Norway and Sweden but there are few other places in Europe with such a large undeveloped landscape. I really want to come over again and hire a van/camper tough enough to explore. I'll take MORR's phone number though, just in case.

in the 1970's my father was the op engineer for the electricity authority over a very big area. 350 x 600 km in Australia ( covering over 200k people) and they had F150's as the trucks for the linesman. 4WD was very eclectic in those days and those Ford f150's went to remote places. Flat farming country to subtropical rain forest and lots of hills
My brother taught me to be his brakes when slowing down, basically me using the towed vehicles brakes to slow us down in order to keep the tow rope tight.
Great work guys! Those birds that leap off the cliffs as day-old goslings and float down on the updraft, are called barnacle geese and they live in northwestern Europe. I once raised them on our bird farm. They have fearlessness born into them, which is the same sort of stuff you need on these jobs you do.
MICA: Used as a natural high-voltage insulator. Lots of use in medium & small value capacitors during the vacuum tube days. Still have the 'mojo' in guitar amplifiers.
Mica is used for high temperature windows in furnaces, in some capacitors, as glitter in some automotive paints(mostly use plastics now), as high temperature electronics insulation, an additive to well drilling mud, and many other uses.

Great to know that Kolin is recovering so fast and so well(sorry if the name spelling is wrong :/ :) ). Had a few operations myself, and there is nothing like finally starting to see that unreachable light at the end of the tunnel getting bigger and bigger (meaning it's not a million miles away anymore)and that victory coming so close that you can smell it. At that point, sometimes you can even forget to eat and drink as that feeling alone of things starting to click again makes you so alive and energised.

If I wasn't seeing this on an actual video, I would never have believed that anyone could have gotten a 2WD Tacoma to the point where the owner busted his differential and had to abandon the vehicle. Great job for the MORR team!
@@Shifty519 - I've owned one, many years ago, before they were named "Tacoma". It was an '84 as I recall. Got totalled in an accident, but I agree, Toyota's pickup trucks are sturdy as they come. I wonder how the driver here managed to break the differential? I suppose we'll never know, unless the owner contacts Matt after the repair is finished and Matt passes the info along to us in an update. I've never owned a 4-Runner, but I see people with them travelling the backcountry in Death Valley, on some pretty rough roads, like Steel Pass and Lippincott, if you are familiar with them, and 4-Runners are tough as nails if you upgrade them with TA/KO-2's, skid plates, and maybe diff lockers (if that's possible?).
Love the videos, thanks. You provide good narration and technical info. Please keep it up. I'm OK with people taking risks, like climbing Mt Everest, so long as they take full responsibility for their actions and don't socialize the cost if/when things go sideways, like filing an insurance claim 'cause they wrecked their new Raptor wheelin'.
@c-qc-q2021 Curious why you think insurance is socializing the cost. We get raked over the coals on premiums and deductibles all because it's mandated by law (for good drivers) I've had no "at fault" accidents in 20 years of driving and my total damage amount to all my vehicles in that time was around $10k. Guess how much I've paid in premiums over 20 years?
@@RobotDCLXVI That's exactly what insurance is. Everyone who owns a car and drives on public roads (so most adults in the US) is required by law to have insurance. What a scam that is

Cos people get by perfectly well without guns....
what is yorp?@@timshimmin3468
@@timshimmin3468 ....for a time
I like when Matt said it had Bluetooth driveshafts 😄
Probably verified by the guy who's rig they're grabbing...
I get it is a sponsor and I have no problem with them making money. But the idea of Matt using an app on a phone to find things off road cracks me up.
@@beaushawespecialy when no-one has any idea how it really works doesnt inspire me
@@melin1969I have OnX as well.
@@beaushawwouldn’t it more be about the stuck people using onX to share their location with MORRRPG
As in the past Matt had trouble finding people who had shared a pin using Google maps or apple yelp maps or some such garbage

I have to agree, this is a Classic MORR episode , great views of beautiful country and even a Burro ! ... Glad to see Kaulin recovering so well, a few months ago he was on crutches helping out the in shop and now he's running Camera on recoveries ... amazing progress. Love you guys, thanks for taking us with you !
I understand the adventure and the beautiful scenery, but going out that deep into it where the road almost doesn't exist in a 2WD vehicle is probably not wise. But having a rescue outfit like MORR that will go out that far is priceless. The wrecker remains an amazing vehicle. Great video.
Locked 2WD on a green trail like that? He would have been fine if he didn’t smoke the diff.
it wasnt the two wheel drive that ended the trip tho lol. would have been okay.
Matt's being a hypocrite here and bashing his customer for going as far as he can in 2wd 😂 which isn't even the problem. That guy didn't get stuck, he had an equipment failure and was obviously prepared for just such an occasion.
Is it possible, if not probable that he smoked the diff because he took a 2wd where it didn’t belong?
@@kennethbrown8723 possible but probable is something I couldn't answer. Driveline shock is usually a big factor with major breakages. Either way the guy was prepared and didn't require any kind of emergency services
1/2025.........That was fun to watch! Beautiful views out the windows. Each rescue is an adventure.
12:45 I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets that song stuck in their head...
I am positively pumped and palpably pulsating with pleasure at the prospect of the next recovery.
That is impressive 🤯
😅😂🤣
Wow. Just wow!
Perfectly put.
I’m pretty proud of your prose!!!
"what's a baby burro"? ... a burrito! hahahah!!! Dad joke for the win. you guys rock.
A joke in another language but literal in it's own.
I should have seen that coming, but it caught me by surprise in the best way. :)
That’s good! Of course I’m a 60 year old Dad.
I've been following you guys forever👍 today I'm sitting out here in the Arizona strip kind of bored watching some old recovery videos and I seen this one which I've watched when it first come out but I watched it again
you guys do what I love doing when you're in the desert go look at all the stuff and when you flipped and seen the date on that old truck and it said 1961 and both you guys said that's not that old 😮 I was born in 1961 you're my heroes now 😂
I'm a retired trucker now so got nothing to do but watch the donkeys and the roadrunners
See you out in the desert somewhere💯👍🏜
Yeah that customer looked like he might have had a story. Would be fun to hear those...
That moment when Matt realised TomTom was tired and let him drive the Ford is wholesome. Matt is a good man and boss.
Saw that too... most definitely empathic 😘🇬🇧
Tom and Matt are brothers from different mothers. Either would gladly lay down his life for the other. You can see that in the way the interact with each other compared to others. That special bond is undeniable. We're not all lucky enough to have that kind of friend...
I agree
Great video. I noticed this is an older video sometime before his vacation since the glass on the wrecker was still broken, and a few videos back it was just repaired. 😊
You have a keen eye 👍🏻
You’re, your, you are awesome!
2 days before Tom replaced it. It's not uncommon for Matt's videos to be out of order
"Burrito" does actually mean "little donkey" though. 😂
And silver isn't exactly the best welding material ;-)
So make sure Hellboy is equipped with a manly horn and plenty of lights (these are things Matt doesn't have)
You haven't started yet, don't get too cocky, not over till the fat lady sings.

Great to see Kaulin's recovery going so well. The wrecker just keeps proving how capable it is.
Canada has even more remote land. You can't drive to most of it though. That southern U.S. is some beautiful country though.
@@georgevindowith all due respect, Canada has almost the same area with 10% of the US population, so yeah empty space, mostly tundra or taiga. I will however give both Canada and the USA huge props for their national parks, truly an important idea. ✌🏻
@@nerfherder4284 Perhaps you should look up land mass by country. All the best to you.
I’m from the Northeastern US originally but now live in Mew Mexico. There’s a reason for that. The western US is an off-roading paradise.
We had a friend in her 80’s from Switzerland come visit every year. She couldn’t wait to hit the road in the Southwest and “drive her age” in a straight line: 80mph* for 80* miles (*or more).
It's funny seeing the Banana going full throttle and having slight struggle up when they turned around, then the wrecker just casually rolls up.
Having 3x larger tires has some perks I guess, haha.
in the 1970's my father was the op engineer for the electricity authority over a very big area. 350 x 600 km in Australia ( covering over 200k people) and they had F150's as the trucks for the linesman. 4WD was very eclectic in those days and those Ford f150's went to remote places.
Flat farming country to subtropical rain forest and lots of hills
Lol. That’s not being stuck between a rock and the hard place, that was stuck between a rock and no place! Great job guys!! Love it.
Building that wrecker is something to be proud of y’all literally built the frame and all what a awesome peace of equipment
20:18 Kaulin: "He stops for nobody"
20:29 Matt stops
Matt: "I was watching the mirror and all the sudden you fell off, made me nervous"
🤣
One has to practice, practice, practice in order to not run over the rope. Especially when you are being flat towed for 3 hours. You did good Tom.
My brother taught me to be his brakes when slowing down, basically me using the towed vehicles brakes to slow us down in order to keep the tow rope tight.
The wrecker didnt even flinch coming back up on the road after they turned around. Thing literally just chugs along without a care.
Great work guys! Those birds that leap off the cliffs as day-old goslings and float down on the updraft, are called barnacle geese and they live in northwestern Europe. I once raised them on our bird farm. They have fearlessness born into them, which is the same sort of stuff you need on these jobs you do.
GREAT point Matt.... you need an AIR HORN on the Wrecker!
I would go for a train horn, would be more appropriate LOL
Train Horn is awesome Loud 📢
MICA: Used as a natural high-voltage insulator. Lots of use in medium & small value capacitors during the vacuum tube days. Still have the 'mojo' in guitar amplifiers.
Also used in makeup
I remember when they used mica for a sight glass in wood or coal heaters.
In 2022, the price for one metric ton of dry ground mica in the United States was 300 U.S. dollars.
@@dubious6718 At 14 cents per pound, Tom is going to have to load up quite a few baggies to make a profit LoL!
Also used in microwaves since it's transparent to the microwave radiation.
Mica is used for high temperature windows in furnaces, in some capacitors, as glitter in some automotive paints(mostly use plastics now), as high temperature electronics insulation, an additive to well drilling mud, and many other uses.
I'm happy for you Kaulin! You are getting your body back as well as your youth! I could hear the gratefulness in your voice as you spoke of your condition. You are a good kid with an AMAZING family! I got to meet you guys a couple of years ago at the Great Smokey Mountain Jeep Extravaganza (or whatever it was called). Tell Liz and Ed we love them! Thanks for the feels, guys.
This is impressive to have 2 vehicles go back in there and rescue the Toyota. There was a mechanical breakdown In the truck it sounds like. Pretty amazing road. We use to have a k5 Blazer and took it across Black Rock Dessert and in the back are to High Rock Canyon, The part was pretty dicey.
Thanks for listening to someone's suggestion and taking that extra second to unfold your shirt before handing it to the customer. They always seem to hold it up and are stoked and it's a great way to end the recovery 🤘🏻✌🏻
The wrecker is my absolute favorite build of all time from all of the channels I watch. I just love watching it power through places that the XJ struggles in.

The Heavy Wrecker is magnificent, but it really deserves a proper name.
@@christianellegaard7120 It does... Matt and Heavy D have already announced a war for what they are going to do with those massive, military grade diffs they have. Come April I predict some great You Tube.
i like you explaining why you chose to flat tow instead of lift the back. makes a lot of sense if you have the experience to think about ripping off the bumper and also the damage done already to the dif, etc. appreciate your content and good vibes.
I spent a summer in southeast Utah staking mining claims, along with a couple of buddies. Four wheel drive was a necessity, and there were some times when we really didn’t know if we could get out of places we’d gotten into. That experience soured me on four wheeling as a form of recreation.
This and your other videos restore some of the sense of adventure: to have the tools to do this job, and the satisfaction of helping someone in distress changes the four-wheeling endeavor into something with purpose.
Thanks!
Nice 31:20 seconds , see I knew you guy's could do it. You broke the 30 minute mark thank you. Nice job on the recovery, and glad Kaulin is recovering nicely. Thanks for the nice long video guy's.

That shot of the left front wheel at 19:49 is awesome! The tire rotates forward but the shadow rotates backwards.
Matt learned to film the left front wheel from Rory .
@20:47 It's kinda weird to see this now with the crack in wind sheid since we've already seen Tom replace the wind shield.
And Kaulin, thanks for the update and so happy for your recovery!
Even without the diff failure, his trip was just about over. Go back and look at the steep grade with loose rock they pulled him up initially. The wrecker was hunting for traction with all 4 wheels locked. That 2wd even had street tires. It didn't belong there

I built a 1928 International for Quaker Steak and Lube in Pittsburgh PA in about 2006 - and a 1914 Ford Flat-Bed for an Old Timer in Georgia who's Family for about 150 years worked for a guy who had a Cotton Farm and a Peach or Walnut Farm somewhere down there - but the Farmer guy had no family when he passed so he left the entire Farm to the Old-Timer (and his Family) who was in his 20's at the time the farmer passed and he always talked about that Truck so I restored it for him in 2003 for his 70'th Birthday. Ok. You got me. All the alliterations actually activated my affable agreeableness. Well done boys. And the recovery was excellent.
“Don’t scratch my paint Kaulin.”

That was weird hearing that coming from Matt. I wouldn't show Robby the mess he's made on the Banana. 😂😂
Some magazine did a test 2wd vs 4x4...2wd with posi and good tires was only 50 feet behind where the 4x4 couldn't go much farther...
That's nice looking mica. With that grade you can use a sheet of it as heat proof glass or electrical insulating material in a refractory furnace.
its kind of impressive how a 2wd can get this far.
2wd with a locker and a skilled driver can get you to a ton of cool places and back again safely. 2wd with momentum and a novice driver can get you in a lot of trouble 😂
Like an advanced version Matt's 2wd challenge. The game ends different without 4wd.
I always play that game.. getting stuck in 2wd and having 4wd as back up is great.. getting stuck in 4wd and having 2wd as back up is not!
2WD to get you in, 4WD to get you out. At least he was outdoors and enjoying life.
Props to your singing, Matt! You even matched the key that Roger Miller was singing in!!
I've noticed him doing that before. I suspect he may have perfect pitch.
What a beast being out there swinging a camera on that terrain
One thing your wrecker could use is power anchor, in Minnesota the wreckers have a ram that goes straight down and digs into the icee roads to stop the wrecker from sliding.
We need a follow up episode where the diff is dismantled.
Good job guys.
There's a lot of people out there that are so lucky and hopefully grateful that you guys do what you do... Big blessings to you all

One aspect rarely discussed are the financial aspects of equipment, fuel, labor, parts, T-shirts, etc. How is it all funded and billed? I imagine you have pulled out vehicles whose owner has no money, or wallet. Do you record inquiries and develop an oral contract for recovery services.
Your crew is excellent. Nice to see so many young folks learning the mechanical arts and problem solving.

I pretty much did the same thing on a mountain range behind my house at the time but it was a 2WD Ford F-150. I did it because somebody told me I couldn’t and I wanted to prove them wrong.
What a scam that is
Two Points:
1. I love how the comment about there being a burro out there if they got hungry was one of those blink and you miss it comments AND nobody seemed to question it.
2. I was thinking the whole video "what kind of person takes a 2wd up there?" Then, when we meet him, he's a New England fan. I'm so embarrassed for us. :D

I love that area! I live in Las Vegas and explore around the Gold Butte area quite a bit. Really enjoyed the video and am amazed at the terrain you'll tackle to make a recovery. Well done! Fun fact, mica is a mineral used in makeup foundation, electrical insulation and as a filler in asphalt and cement.
Thanks for sharing. You guys are so much more refined than the Sparks people with their giant equipment. You carefully plan the recovery and take good care of the customer vehicle. It is fun to watch.
I spent a lot of time in the Gold Butte country in the late 80’s - early 90’s. Very cool but rough country!
The Wrecker is just so good. It don't matter what others build, Matt and crew can be proud of having built the right tool by their own hands.
That thing needs a dip and a powder coat like the Bombi got. I hadn't watched in a few month and the deep pitting rust on all the welds on the Heavy Wrecker is very noticeable.

I believe that Kaulin is as much of a monster for people as that fluffing wrecker is a monster for a 4x4.
He took that tumble in stride and got back into the fray, just like that beefcake wrecker motored up the hill without slipping a tire...
The cinematography of these videos is absolutely amazing, the editing is top-notch 😉, and Matt is most definitely a born leader.
