  • Cheap, easy-to-make pool vacuum for your above ground pool. Clean the bottom of your pool using pool pump suction. Better and easier to use than the garden hose vacuum that came with our pool.

I just use a garden hose to and syphon water out using the suction to get sand and debris out. If you worried about water loss then syphon into a big plastic tote container and hand bucket the water back in - the dirt and heavy debris will sink to the bottom couple inches so just toss that last bit onto the lawn. Trust me it works and its free! Theres plenty enough suction, just take your time.

Thank you for this very helpful video. I've been toying with a few ideas and this one seems to work perfectly. I've tweeked it a bit by putting the metal drain strainer at the tip of the hose that way I can get the bigger bits out of the way and not lose suction from the pump. Another thing I did was added some weight to the same end of the hose so that I can put it down if I need too. Thank you for the helpful tips.

I've been thinking about putting a hole in an extra strainer thing I have from an old pool we had. I just didn't know how successful it would be. I have a shop vac hose. I'm very excited to see that my thought was not a crazy one lol. I did not, however, think about the strainer I would need for blocking bigger debris. I also have an extra one of those. I am trying to avoid going out for a pool vac if I can have a successful alternative method. This is so awesome. So glad you made this video. Thanks so much! Now, just a random question. How did you record that hands free? Lol

I put the hose on the pump outlet...it will push water through and air out...easier than trying to sink the hose especially longer hose like mine🖒

Thank you Mr. Fixit! One quick question: how did u cut thru the blue pool cover thing so I can insert the vacuum hose? A saw or pliers dont seem to work. Thanks for the help!

you can buy a wall skimmer for that pool and buy pool vacuum hose that will attach to the pool and buy a vacuum head for it and works better then that

Intex sells an adapter that screws over the inlet and steps down to a 1.5" port for a pool hose. Just google intex skimmer adapter. Got mine for less than 10 bucks shipped

Also, what I learned from a different video lat night, was to hook up the vacuum, Hose and handle, then put the head and entire hose in the pool(Use what ever method you want to remove the air from the hose), Then I use the Jet outlet to force water into the hose. Plug the free end of the hose before air gets back into it, Then bring it out of the pool and near the ground and remove the plug, causing the water to siphon out through the vacuum head and out of the hose on the ground. Secure the hose so it doesn't come out of the pool. Then steadily vacuum the pool while the water and debris hit the ground. I tried it this morning. I have the paper filter setup and there's no point in sucking the debris into the filter, then cleaning the filter, just waste the vacuumed material on the ground.
Today I'm going to organize my hose so it has a clamp and hooks to keep the majority of the hose off the ground. And a plug for the hose while I set it up.

Can you tell me where you purchased the filter cover you cut the hole in? I'm not seeing any online. Thx

It's just the out flow strainer grid/cover which doesn't really do much on our pool. (The pool comes with two --intake and outflow.) And if you ever want to use it again just put a little piece of hardware cloth/wire mesh on the inside of the hole you cut.

mack park Or just leave the strainer in it all the time that he utilized.

      Hi,
It's called a sump pump hose. I got it local but any hardware store like Home Depot carries it. It comes in 24 foot lengths and is about $10.

He said it was a standard shop vac hose. Same hose I have on my shop vac. Or you could buy a wall mount skimmer and a rechargeable canister vac. Best thing I ever did. Regular pool hoses can be bought at any home improvement Warehouse or pool supply store which would work as well.
