How To Overhaul A Bicycle Single Speed Freewheel
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 сер 2019
- In this video, I demonstrate the process of disassembling and reassembling an ACS Crossfire single speed freewheel. These freewheels are a little easier to overhaul than a typical freewheel in that the bearings are the caged type, so you don't have to deal with reinstalling about 100 or so tiny 1/8" ball bearings.
Typically, I'll use grease on the bearings, and a thicker wet oil, such as Phil Wood tenacious oil on the pawls. If you want your freewheel to be louder, use a lighter weight oil on the pawls for a more pronounced ratcheting sound.

Took mine to pieces and all the bearings fell out ! They weren't in a cage like yours. What a job looking for them all !
Oh no! Sorry I didn't explain that. Most of the time they will be loose ball bearings.
I have the freewheel off the wheel but now how do I keep steady to punch off the cap ring? Also, when you put it back together how do you hold it steady to tighten back up?
Maganda at may nakuha akong I dea salamat sir
Thank you so much man, you rock!
Happy to help!
mine rusted to the hub and it broke the hub in 2 when i tried to remove it and its still stuck. new parts needed
Nice job, thank you
Thank you too!
Incredible & Thanks Sir :)
Most welcome!
I have a not too old freewheel (DNP 30 click) with about 2-3000 km on it, with the same three pawl system that are activated with a circular spring like this hub. Does anyone happen to know the name of that spring type / if there's any hope of getting a replacement spring? The spring in mine has broken and the hub doesn't work, but bearings and the rest are in good shape, would prefer to repair not trash it if I could...
thanks for this video
Most welcome!
What is a size of cage bearing?
Thank you so freaking much
You're welcome!
Hey your video is true its nice
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words!
Thank you
You're welcome
How to remove freewheel 12T
What sized caged ball bearings are used in this video?
1/8"
How do you remove this type of freewheel from a hub? I can't see any holes/groves you would insert a tool into.
There are some splines on the inside of the freewheel that ACS makes a tool for. amzn.to/2SXp7oU
@@JoeyMesa Oh yes. I can see them now.
Do really have to take the hub out or can I leave it on the wheel ?
It's actually probably easier to leave it on the wheel.
Best to have to attached to a true wheel. Hubs aren’t exactly the most sturdiest of things and a fully set up wheel with the tensioned spokes really spread out the torque loads that come with this type of maintenance, as well as removing and attaching the freewheel to the wheel
how to make your sprocket noisy?
Very light oil
what single speed sprocket is that?
ACS Crossfire. Most single speed freewheels are very similar, but in general, the bearings are loose in most freewheels. I didn't know this one had bearing retainers until I pulled it apart.
@@JoeyMesa it is sad to say that this is not available here in the Philippines:(
most of the sprockets here only has a bearings, but i want that because it has a pawls, it's very unique and uncommon like normal sprocket. i hope i can get one
because i can't afford bmx hubs it is too pricy:(
Pleas tel me 1 New set price

Lubricate - oil - just before installing lock down ring.
Dear.
You started with already opened freewheel. You didn't tell, what the way it was opened. So I didn't like your video.
It seemed, you were not happy to teach all that.
Sorry for that, I'm a professional mechanic, not a videographer. The process is reversed from how I put it together. However, I'll make another video soon and put a link here of a complete teardown and rebuild on a freewheel. I'm always open to any type process you would like to see performed, so just let me know what you want to see.
Thanks for the feedback!
