- To oil your bike freewheel use something like chain lube. This will likely reduce or entirely fix any noise in your drivetrain if you have it.
Drip the oil between the fixed and moving surfaces of the freewheel as you spin it counterclockwise (coasting).
You can lubricate the freewheel while mounted on the wheel but make sure to clean up any excess oil that may flow through to the other side so it does not leave a mess.
The freewheel may need to be oiled if you are experiencing a noisy freewheel, which is not uncommon for cheap freewheels.

So, five years later I have added an SS beauty to my stable. She had been in a garage for years. My freewheel felt stiff. This worked instantly. Thanks!
I picked up a neat tool years ago. You remove your free wheel and mount it to the tool just like you would to your hub. The tool sealed up against the free wheel. It had a grease fitting. Just pop on a grease gun and a couple of pumps completely packed the free wheel with light grease. Worked great! I haven't seen them for sale for a long time. Most hubs are now free-hubs.
I really like your videos. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Old Guy Bob!
Thanks mate. This helped
Hi, and i heard the oposite two times, the noisy freewheel are the best quality. But i think this is not a good benchmark for the quality because the noise depend on the quantity of grease or oil you put in. More you put grease and less noisy it is
Better freewheels often have more engagement points and pawls which make it noisier. Usually though more noise means more drag while coasting. "Better" freewheel might actually freewheel worse than cheap freewheel. I have blb royal ed 72 clicks freewheel and it's very loud and drags a lot. Cheap dicta freewheel coasts so much better.
Concise and excellent vid!
Does it seep out once upright?
Hopes this fixes my noise on my single speed track lord im using a origin8 cog ,good video👍
Great vid. Thanks for the tip.
Which oil is right for applying on freewheel and chain.
I use a wet chain oil.
Depends on what conditions your riding in. Dry lube for sunny and dry days, wet for rainy days.
I use a bit of wd-40 and the truth is, whatever they say, the result is excellent, it cleans and lubricates and the sprocket runs very smooth.
Wd-40 is a solvent. It does not lubricate. It does clean, however it evaporates. You need to lubricate anything you apply wd-40 to.
No seria mejor abrirlo y de paso limpiar las postas y todo el interior
