Do you ever hibernate your Hermann's Tortoises Kenan?
I just bought my first tortoise today! Found him at a reptile expo for £55 as a baby, which is insane compared to the price given in this video but it may be that they are less within europe anyways :D Can't wait to spend the rest of my life with him

We’ve had 3 torts for 6 years. The youngest is a Herman’s which was shop bought as a baby whereas a Spurthigh whom is now about 11 yrs old was basically rescued from a miserable life in a fish tank & a neighbours’ Horsefield about 12 whom is more a giant Spider . They live indoors & in a large secure garden in the English warmer weather. Prob is , the Herman has Vanished. She hasn’t been stolen as the boundaries are secure & although there’s spots of softer soil no matter how thoroughly we’ve searched inch by inch , there’s no indication of her successfully burying herself away from the heat. For 2 weeks we’ve spent an hour searching & inspecting the ground , beneath buildings, under vegetation etc etc. Set up a dummy which has been moved by us daily but hasn’t been grabbed by birds so unless she’s been nicked by a smart bird whom can tell the difference, we’re mystified. 😔

Great video! Though you forgot to mention the plastron markings while discussing characteristics. Together with the other telltale signs, they make it rather easy to distinguish between Western Hermann's, Eastern Hermann's, and Greek.
Hermann's Tortoises are the best! I loved my Box Turtle, and other species of Turtle or Tortoise, but these guys are the FRIENDLIEST Tortoises you will ever see! Really good for beginners. Thanks for the video :)

Ashley Judith this turtles rarely grow over 7-8 inches so probably a 50 gallon could be good
Generally for an adult you want 4x4 juveniles probably 3x3
I just love your channel. You care for your animals so well. Nobody in my family understood my love for reptiles. I saved up enough to buy a beautiful red leatherback bearded dragon from a breeder, and now, even my mom has taken charge of feeding him and cleaning up after him if I get home late. His cute, curious oddessy through the enclosure won them all over! Hoping to save up for a cherry head red footed tortoise or a box turtle by the end of summer semester! Ace Video Kenan! I've just acquired a young Hermann's Tortoise 🐢 a few weeks ago,his owner,who was a neighbour of my partners Mum sadly passed away,I knew I was gonna get him one day but not quite so soon as I did!
So as you can imagine, I've been studying everyday about their needs etc,I live in Scotland so as you can imagine also,he needs to be kept indoors so I've got a nice little setup for him inside 🙂 Would love to see more vids of the Hermann's species to get more tips and info from you. Take Care.
I have three Hermann's tortoises and they're so awesome! I love them :D
They're all different "species" (donno whats the word for it) like one is Testudo Hermanni Hermanni, one is Testudo Hermanni Boettgeri and our youngest is Testudo Hermanni Hercigovinensis :)
My Boettgeri and Hercigovinensis are sooooo lovable (because these mine just love humans and come to me when called). The Hermanni Hermanni is little shy, but thats just his personality :D
what do you feed them?
Do they have to hibernate

Have watched you for years and in doing so was able to save an abandoned hermanns yesterday. Crossing my fingers it just got lost but so far no one has come forward

I have good news, though. After almost 4months, Turtwig was found and returned to us! He had lost a lot of weight but was otherwise in good shape. He's doing very well now, although his outside time and space are much more restricted.

awesome channel found you from a reddit link in the tortoise sub. definitly subscribed. I have a question about the cactus you feed them. they appear to be prickly pear. I know that it can have small prickles and hairs, do you clean the cactus pads? or only use young pads? best way to harvest the pads as to not hurt the cactus?
How is the wheat grass for Herman's or sulcata, I live Michigan so he won't be in a out door pen all year round, which would you recommend?

I live in a 800sqft Apartment. Do you think I can house one of these with it just roaming around my place? Obviously a small tank would only last so long for a baby Hermann. What do you guys think?
