This is the best how to video I have watched on youtube! GREAT JOB!
I have an 1132 and wanted to take the augers off for greasing and this video has shown me how to do that. It’s just a few bolts and easier then I thought. I bought the 1132 used so I hope the augers are not stuck on the shaft… the original owner said he broke a few shear pins so I would assume that it will spin freely. I will take the shear pins out and try to spin the auger to be sure that way I know what I’m getting into. I really hop I don’t have to fire up the torch!

    • @donyboy73
      @donyboy73  10 років тому

yes it should spin freely unless it's fused on there because of rust

I checked last week, when the bolts were removed they did spin. I will grease them before winter for sure. Thanks for the reply.

Dony I appreciate the work well done on this 3 part video for this Honda gearbox . I own a HS 55 snowblower and just by watching your videos gives me the confidence to do all the maintenance on and off season for auger bearings and all moving parts on my own snowblower thanks a million for your videos,

Beautiful job on that. I bought one of those 928's a couple years ago and you have taught me so much on how to take care of it. One question.... where the shaft was stuck, (rusted on) would it be a good idea to drill out the auger on each side and install 2 grease nipples, then it would just be a matter of squirting in a little grease, take out the shear bolt and let the auger spin around a few times (once in a while). I find a good way to free up seized augers is to just take out the shear pins/bolts and clear some snow with the machine, eventually the augers will free themselves....... you couldn't do that in this situation though, I know.

Smashing, the sprocket pullers are so dam handy :-)
I used to use them for bearings on motorcycle engines, a must, and a rubber/wood hammer.

@curtite not a common repair, usually caused by negligence or a misfortune of a large object getting caught in the augers

@Ramstein414 never heard of it but one could replace the roll pins on the impeller with grade 8 bolts and maybe get the same dissassembly procedure

    READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION
    Helpful video thanks.
For those of you doing this at 5:07 part 2 I could not get that shaft in 2nd. I put the impeller shaft in first then the auger shaft. Same steps just the top shaft first.
To answer another question to remove the 1st seal you get to on the auger shaft I just put a screwdriver next to the shaft past the seal itself and pried up.
I also would put oil or grease on the seals..not dry.
My auger shaft was really rough and pitted (the previous owner stored it outside its whole life) so I put in a new one to be sure to not damage the new seals and provide a smooth surface to seal against.
Question asked below..(I know a long time ago but for future reference) If you have an older HS928 you may not have the top support bracket that hangs the gear box from the housing. There is a TSB that says you should add it and I think it says upgrade the auger shaft to prevent gearbox/ shaft damage. That may be why it broke and you are watching this video.
Good luck and bring on the snow!

After you removed the 2nd auger, how did you remove the gearbox? In the video it skips from heating the auger to having the gearbox removed. Is it possible to remove the gearbox while keeping all the bearings and oil seals intact as long as I have not heated it to remove the augers (which I have not) ? THANK YOU!!!

Qucik question ... I have the same snowblower ... the shaft cracked at the shear pin bolt. I have it all apart but how do you get the shaft out (passing the main gear?) do you drive it out with force? My housing is in great shape so Im affraid to damage it.

@Jeopao I have seen them on ebay once in a while I bought one looks like the same as donnyboy is I paid 100 bucks for it as the high bidder . They do not go cheap I did not have a torch and needed something to heat my wheelchair wheel to get it off and it worked great . I seen one on craigslist a few weeks ago it was in NYC and it sold in one day fro 75 bucks I called as soon as I seen it the guy said he got over 50 calls and 30 e-mails so look there you may get lucky.

Your 3 part video so well done I would appreciate a comment I am attempting to replace a broken honda auger shaft hs 828 model into the gear box that has no damage . I am not a mechanic so removal of existing bearings I assume has to be done to get shaft to push out ?. I am ssuming shaft just doesn’t push thru the bearings ?. I suspect your advice may be take this to honda since this repair is different from your videos and requires a level of expertise I don’t have for this unless there is remedy I am completely no seeing . Thanks in advance for your advice . I would gladly take this to you but I know you don’t repair Hondas anymore . Regards Garry C

  • @suedeball635

#1 those aren’t the the factory 6mm shear bolts so I assume they were replaced with a random hard bolt & that alone could over stress the gearbox enough to break it. #2 the auger tubes were rusted solid to the gearbox shaft so something’s gotta give & it was the gearbox. Unfortunately the impeller shear pin didn’t break first mabe that was replaced with a hard bolt too. 🤔

I have a Honda HS622 Snowblower. The shear bolt is gone from the (from the front) right auger and the holes in the auger and the shaft do not align, side to side, so that a bolt will not fit through. A finish nail or wire will go through. It looks as if the auger needs to slide 1/4" toward the center but can't because the edge of the auger shaft hits the (black plastic) side of the gear case. Nothing looks to be bent or out of place in the auger housing. It was working fine just recently.
Do you have suggestions on how I can align the holes on the auger shaft to allow for a new bolt?
The right auger has two places for shear bolts, though only one could be used at a time because they are a 90 degree rotation from one another. Both holes have the same lack of clearance for a bolt.
The left auger only has one place for a shear bolt.
While operating, the left auger spins and works fine and the right does not. There is no rattle, vibration, or anything to indicate that something is out of line.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

Quick question on seized shaft, in your video you removed it by using the torch as you didnt mind sacrificing the seals in the gear box. Any recommendation on how to remove it without using heat, may be copious amount of pb blaster? Also, to avoid it from seizing again can Loc-cease be used? TIA

    • @tbyrd2046

Forget use the torches and put in new seals. I soaked it in PB blaster for over a week and beat the thing to death. Went to the torches.
