I had a wringer washer when my 3children were young ( I'm 74) . In the summer I would have it outside with double rinse tubs. Then hang the clothes on the clothesline.. wintertime it was put inside my farmhouse kitchen, and I'd do laundry , then hang them on lines in the attic. Wish I still had that wringer washer. I loved it! Janice, you did well, with what you knew what to do. Love all your children. Can't wait to see the new kitchen!

While visiting Mexico… I used this concrete board to wash my family’s clothes. It really makes me thankful that I have a washing machine. Sometimes we just don’t realize how blessed we are.

I can remember as a kid my mom had a wringer washer (I am 70) and I can remember her putting jeans through the wringer. She would fold the jeans with the snaps inside so they could go through.

I remember when I saw a ringer washer for the first time it’s was 1993.
I never had one but my sister’s in law’s had one. It was the strangest thing I’ve ever seen. They showed me how they worked. That is too much work for me. I’m was glad I had a Maytag. Your little ladies are so great to help you, I wish y’all all the luck using y’all’s new washer, I know your glad to have it. Thank you for sharing.

Well done girls for willingly taking on an arduous task, with smiling faces, and helping your Momma get through all that laundry! When I was young I thought it was fun helping my Grannie wring out the laundry. When she eventually got a washing machine, she would still wash the clothes in the sink, wring them then put them in the washer. It took her a few years to trust the washer to do it all for her! She did always say the old ways were best however hard the chore. Janice, I hope you and your new washer have a very long lasting friendship with no breakdowns or niggles along the way. Forever blessed ❤️🕯️🙏👕👗👚🎽

Mom had an electric wringer/agitator it could rotate to the 2 additional rinse tubs. She would start with whites in washer, and reuse the water until it became "too dirty". The temperature would gradually get cooler which was fine for clothing. Daddy work uniforms were always last because they were dirtier. She used the wringer on them. On rainy and snowy days she would hang them in the basement. She always swore her clothes were never as clean as when she used the wringer.

@samrumohr2691 part of that was hanging clothes in the sun to dry. And they smelled so great. The only thing I didn't like was towels, because they were stiffer.

I was without a kitchen for a whole year when we were renovating our home. Did my cooking in an electric skillet and microwave in my master bedroom and did the dishes in the bathroom sink and bathtub. In fact, other than the small bedroom with a double bed that my two little kids (boy and girl) shared and a laundry room that remained intact, our family spent the rest of our indoor time in just our master-bedroom-turned-family-room-and-kitchen during the day! It was a cozy year.

Just started to watch this video but I had 2 ideas.. maybe you should get a second machine....not only in case of a breakage, but you could probably use a second one. Maybe insert a large garbage bag so the rust does not have contact with the clothes

Not sure what you use for detergent. But I learned if boys men do dirty jobs/chores you may need to use a stronger detergent. My husband in dirt/gravel business. I had to go to regular Tide. Made a world of difference. Cost more. But made clothes look better.
I continued to use milder detergent on my clothes. This reminds me of washing at my Grandmother she used a wringer washer for years😊

I feel all your pain and muscles. We used two buckets a plunger and some rope to do our laundry in the past. You drill holes in the bottom and sides of one bucket, in the plunger, and one hole in the bucket lid.. To wash you put the hole filled bucket inside the normal bucket put your load of clothes and soap in, add your water, the add the plunger putting the lid over the plunger. Then you push the plunger up and down to agitate the clothes. Take the whole bucket out of the normal bucket and let it drain while you empty the normal bucket. Hang the bucket from a tree using the rope and spin it one direction as high as you feel comfortable, the step back and let it spin the water out. Rinse and repeat. My kids loved doing laundry this way. It could be your plan c 😊

  • @lynnebrown-hardy1566
    @lynnebrown-hardy1566 Рік тому

I have an old washer and lately it doesn’t spin all the water out. Some loads are fine and others and soaking wet. One thing I do after hand wringing and letting things dry part way outside is throw a dry towel in with the wet/damp clothes and the dry towel helps to absorb some of that extra water. Also drying smaller loads helps.

I used a plunger in the bathtub with an old washboard for a few years, long ago, to wash my family's clothes since I couldn't afford a washer. I rinsed them , wrung them out and hung them to dry in the bathroom over the tub. I was renting I wasn't allowed to put up a clothesline outside. Besides, we lived on the 2nd floor and I didn't want to run up and down the stairs and leave my kids alone upstairs (single parent). That was 1976 and in 1979 I had a friend who lived next door to an appliance repairman. He sold me a 1959 Kenmore washer for $5.00 that he fixed . I loved that machine!!! The best washer I ever had. It finally gave out in 1994. So for $5.00 I had the use of a fabulous washing machine for 15 years that was 35 years old. Jeans took 25 minutes to dry in the dryer when i finally was able to buy one. Still miss it.

I remember doing clothes in the bathtub. We didn’t have an agitator/plunger so we kids would get in and walk around on the clothes to get them washed. We would pull the plug and stomp the clothes down from the back of the tub to the drain. So not as much wringing. We thought it was fun as children too. 😂

Hi from Australia Janice! I'm so glad your "new friend" has arrived for you. I remember back 35 years ago when one of my washing machines went and I had a new baby. Back then it was cloth nappies or nothing...... what a chore those were to wash without a machine! I imagine washing clothes of nine people is probably equivalent.....I had 1 child and a new baby back them. Fortunately by the time my third child came along, we were able to buy disposable nappies. Fun video to watch.

We all need to practice for "Just in case". We went a week without electric here a few years ago when our power grid went down. Fortunately husbands job was closed down too because of no electricity so I didn't have to worry about ironing his work shirts. We were fortunate I was caught up on laundry ( just the 2 of us) lesson learned is keep up with the laundry for me. If you have a Pepsi or Coca Cola plant near you look in to getting one of their big storage containers I think mine is 55 gallons? Cut it in half add spigots to it and you could use those to wash cloths with and rinse. I would really do some research on wringers start with Lehman's or have Shawn and the boys think outside the box on how to make a portable wringer stand and use one of those commercial mop buckets with a ringer ( here in Ohio I know Gordon Food Service sells them as that's what we used to mop our floors there). Pretty good sized and sturdy. You are blessed with guys who are mechanically inclined. Anna In Ohio

Gosh, that looks like a lot of work! I'll have to hand it to you Janice, you are a better woman than me! I would have been headed to the laundromat immediately!! It always amazing to me just how hard you work! No woman should have to hand wash 9 people's worth of clothing. This would have been a good teaching moment...everyone gets to wash their own clothes! LOL Think about the women, way back when, that carted their wash to the river bank and beat it on rocks...poor souls!

Lisa, the past week and a half really gave me a different perspective on what women of the past might have struggled with! I do admit that I encouraged everyone to wear their clothing for a couple days if they weren't super-dirty and I also skipped our normal washing of sheets and the tablecloth while we were waiting on the new machine to arrive. It was enough just to keep up with the absolutely necessary things! 😁

With the size of your family, I’d add another washer when you could. Makes life much easier.

Being from a family of fourteen with no dryer I know this drill, save the time and bring it the laundromat, bring it home wet and hang it up to dry. My sister and I the two oldest would be out in the dead of winter hanging clothes on pully lines and that was pre-disposable diaper days, My mother would hang the socks and under ware on the radiator's in the winter for them to dry, less for my sister and I to hang. No dryer and no dishwasher, Our father use to say we don't need a dishwasher I got five he meant five daughters. Oh the memories lol.

I wonder if using hot water caused some of the dyes to come out from the clothes besides them being dirty? It's a pain to have no washer... But, probably kind a fun for this one time and something different. It was a fun video to watch and the girls were SUCH a big help. Love you guys....

We love our speed queens! We run 2 of them. But never buy a 2018. That year was terrible for them. I also love hand washing on occasion. But with 11 of us here It would be too much daily.
