It's now two years since we started our nomadic lifestyle and while enjoying a day in Madalena do Mar located in the south of Madeira we found a beautiful spot in a banana plantation where we sat down and reflected on a few areas that are important for us. We compare our actual experiences with our expectations prior to traveling.

I'm already suspicious on commenting about this as you all already know but...in my opinion you got lucky because you rather than searching the "perfect place" the place found you. Meaning...you got lucky that you "found" Madeira. My home has this vibe ,I guess. Makes you comfortable here while eager to explore the world but always wanting to return to your "roots". Yes, roots doesn't mean always your own country but a place where you seem to belong. Madeira and it's people have always had that feeling to explore beyond but returning home for some sense of stability and belonging. In my opinion you are as genuine as it gets when you talk about Madeira immigrants spirit. Eager to explore the world but always returning to homebase for stability and assuredness. Basically meaning the purpose of our own unique untranslated word called "saudade". A word that has feelings rather than translation. Love you both as you already know the rest is "saudade"

I love the discussion you guys had in this video. The one thing that stood out to me most was that traveling exposes our biases.

Hi Michael and Lauza! Excellent video. I really like how you strive to have a great work-life balance. I'm always surprised by how many people live to work when real life balance only comes when you realize that you only work to live. It was interesting to hear about how it was hard to do without familiar things that made life comfortable before and how you have now adapted to what's available wherever you are. As they say - When living life to the full, collect experiences, not things! Cheers.

I Lauza and Michael, nice to know, that overall, the nomad experience is working, I totally agree, that life is a challenge, and needs that twist to be a good life, we cant and shouldn't get to comfy, otherwise we lose our mojo, therefore life keeps us on our feet.
Talking of Internet and speed of it, according to the Madeira government, the all Island should be fully covered on 5G by June/July this year, that's great news for you, in fact, that was one of the reasons to speed things up, digital nomads, you are seen like that extra boost to our economy, wonderful!
Take care and keep making them videos.

It’s very easy to get comfortable and go with the flow. It takes conscious effort to move forward and to create an interesting life, that we can look back on with a smile on our face. There is a lot that we want to see flourishing in our live and the lives of others which we keep working on. The most important thing we learned is to compare to our previous self rather than to others, also something that takes conscious effort. We would have lots to say around that area but still figuring out how we best communicate those thoughts.
Our phones don’t know yet what to do with 5G, but really happy to see all those infrastructure improvements. Important for the future. Something that some (larger) countries don’t really see…

We love your videos. My wife and I are on an 18 day trip to Madeira right now. We were in Madelena do Mar as well yesterday. We're surprised we didn't bump into you! That would have been nice. Madeira is a truly wonderful island. We thank you for all the great videos you have made; They helped us a lot when we started planning our trip. We are in Arco do Calheta presently. Today is a cold, rainy day so we just walked to Calheta and weren't too adventurous.

Based on your experience, do you feel that it makes it easier to have a “home base” that you come back to after each adventure? A place to recharge your batteries and plot the next adventure. Being a single, I feel that I really need to spend extra time plotting my adventures.
I have been thinking about that a bunch after viewing your videos. I am not sure that I could live out of two suitcases all the time. I think that I would actually like to have a small place that is my “home base” and have some of the things that I enjoy there. My thought is that I would rent it out as I travel and explore other places.
With that in mind, I think that Madeira might be a good “home base” for me. I went in December for a eight days and really enjoyed it and met so many friendly and kind people in Madeira. FYI… I credit you and your videos in large part that I mustered up the courage to book the trip.
I should have a month of vacation time built up by mid-August and I am thinking of staying on Madeira for the whole month of September. This time, I’m thinking of staying in Camara de Lobos and Ribeira Brava. Your Instagram post of the farmers market and shopping in Ribeira Brava are making me think that I should consider this area as well. I’m hoping that you can do a small video on what it’s like to live in that community. It’s hard to find videos about what daily life is like in the small villages around the Island. I would really appreciate your thoughts on daily living in someplace other than Funchal.

Madalena do Mar, and probably at the beginning could be Ribeira Brava but not 100% sure of that

Were there any mistakes that you made...Like when you gad to leave Portugal for the Canary Islands. Was that a 'mistake' at all and even if it was did you find that it was actually a blessing in disguise? What would you do differently, if anything?
