- Protests against skyrocketing inflation turned violent as police used brute force in PoK’s Muzaffarabad. Awami Action Committee vowed to continue protests amid the crackdown, and thousands took to the streets to raise their voice. The Committee had called for protest, demanding tax-free electricity from Mangla Dam and subsidies on wheat flour. The strike gained intensity by overnight police raids, resulting in the arrests of numerous leaders and activists.

The violent tumult and turmoil now gripping Kashmir , is an expression of the pent up anger and frustration of the common man who , at the receiving end of unbearable and steeply rising cost of living , has finally thrown thrown patience to the winds . Because of the elite capture and it’s deep-rooted institutional support , and with the rent-seekers and money barons siphoning off massive amounts ,the burden of oppressive indirect taxation , for generating revenues , falls heavily on the common man , who is no longer prepared to put up with the abusive/exploitative arrangement . The way the current “hybrid”dispensation has tried to tackle the situation is typical of it’s heavy handed approach in dealing with genuine public grievances , but it’s likely to inflame passions further and may cause a break down of civil order with unforeseen consequences .
Its about time that POK re-join India.
