I used to catch grass carp in ponds when I lived in Denver years ago. I'd put leaves on a fly or jig if I was using a spinning reel instead of a flyrod and cast it out to the group of carp and one of them would always slurp up the fresh leaf.
Come up to NM for some trout. Just started on the fly myself. The guides from Taos Fly Shop are awesome. We fished the Chama and Rio De Los Pinos. Caught a nice 21 inch wild rainbow on the Chama. I'm hooked now. So glad I tried it. Keep up the vids dude.

Awesome stuff. I'm loving the fly fishing for non traditional fly fishing species. You're motivating me to dig out my rod and reel and get some stuff for local area. (Boerne, TX) I was doing baitcasters and spinning gear in the river for small bass and panfish, but honestly I think I'd have more fun getting back into fly fishing.
when putting your 4 piece rods together pice it together from the rod tip first, down to the rod handle last. it will help keep your rod off the ground and puts less unneeded strain on the rod as a whole.
I have some grass carp in the back yard lake but can never get close enough to actually cast to them. These things are huge hopefully one day I will get one hooked up. Congrats and looks like your really getting into the the fly fishing. Oh and after 30 it's all down hill!! LOL
Also for carp if you find a fly fishing lure that looks like a worm like the San Juan worm that is chartreuse they love that also a brown one will do as well

My first swimbait rod I got was a mojo bass swimbait/ a rig and reel was the tranx 200 because I seen you get one and it looked like a good beginner set up. I’ve added to my collection now but that rig is still one of my favorite combos to toss 1-3 oz swims. Thankyou for you vids they are awesome. Cant wait to make it to Texas one day. You could go anywhere in US and just learn the art of fly fishing while humor and learning in fucking up. You head to Idaho/Montana, NE area with Jon B but Fly and space it out- you have a bunch of years of content. You got the rhythm and flow off the lip! I will support the hell outta you in the future!
I lived on a shallow river in Wisconsin and a friend of mine told me about fishing on lake Michigan for carp he likened it to bone fishing. I found that if i used a small ball of white bread on a trout hook i could get a carp to bite . if you have ever caught a 3 pound carp on a 4 weight fly rod you will be hooked. You can also have an experience that rivals salt water fishing whiteout all of the expense of travel . I can see why Europeans target them for sport.
