    The best thing I encountered today: a vibrant, informed, articulate, relatable, reasoned young Black woman putting the light on an important issue. I like that phrase: intersectional environmentalism. Go!

    • @ivyleaguelovely
      @ivyleaguelovely 3 роки тому +1

      FYI. Calling a Black person "articulate" is a microaggression. It implies that you didn't expect her to be or that it's notable that she's "articulate" because she's Black.

    I had a gut reaction to the title and almost considered not watching the video. Having now watched it, it is such an important message and very well stated and explained. It opened my mind to other issues that need to be dealt with which are important to think about. However, I do not think it is ok to use the last words of a dying man in the title to this video and I'd be surprised if it wasn't changed soon. If you had the same gut reaction as me watch the video it is important, but the original title is a bit callous.

    • @bewtifulfreak
      @bewtifulfreak 4 роки тому +5

      Yeah, even the intro made me a bit uncomfortable. But it is indeed a very important issue, and highlighted for me just how very many different ways black lives are undervalued.

      I don't think this piece did a good job of talking about longterm poisoning and slow deaths of black and brown communities from environmental pollution. Children in flint Michigan will have to deal with lead poisoning, which is a neurotoxin for the rest of their lives. It goes even further with cancer rate and endocrine disruptors (the hormones in your body can't do their job anymore which leads to further disease). It's not just "do people not have access to organic produce." Is their water poisoning them and does the air have exhaust particulates that end up in your lungs, causing COPD which is suffocating to death but slowly. It is two horrible, terrible options, a slow painful death or a fast painful death. We can all agree that George's death is morally and ethically wrong, there is no discussion. Another sad part is everyday people are threatened with losing their livelihood or place to live if they don't accept these conditions, because where else are you going to go?

    I am so happy I stumbled into this video! I just said the exact same thing to my friend last week about how 2020 has been all about breathing, that the world is suffocating from injustice, for people and our environment! I want to help make a change through environmental justice and justice for black lives! Thank you for putting this video together!

      Noel Uchendu I totally get what you’re saying. And you have a point. I just don’t like so many things, even the title...it’s “triggering” and the channel did it intentionally, not sure if it was for clicks/views. It’s a great message she is sending.

    Another key way to get involved with the environmental justice movement is to learn the history of it. In the 1980s, Black North Carolinians birthed the modern day “environmental justice movement” when over 500 folks were arrested for protesting illegal chemical dumping in Warren County, NC. Black and indigenous folks have always been advocates for safe and conscientious land usage, as we know our lives and communities depend on access to healthy soil, safe drinking water, and clean air. Google to learn more, the movement has been documented.

    Great video. It should also be pointed out that Black activists actually started the environmental justice movement to fight exactly what is discussed in this video. But it was co-opted by white people (similar to the me too movement). Environmental Justice has always been about Black Lives.

      @Trinity M Do you mean the black activists and educators that have made millions with the profitable business of "black equity" like Patrisse Cullors, Opal Tometi and Alicia Garza? Do you want me to read black activists like Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton that have profited with the suffering of others? I don't need a how to profit with a business training course.

    Vitamin D, skin color and Covid 19. In international studies, the people showing up in the hospitals with Covid 19 are Vitamin D deficient (actually 50 ng/ml or below). Studies show 70% of adult African American are Vitamin D deficient, due to the high levels of melanin in their skin. Vitamin D, Vitamin C, and Zinc are important in the fight against Covid 19.

    Thank you for bringing awareness in areas populated by Black & Brown People. I currently reside in Lancaster Tx and over the last 15yrs more Farm lands have been turned into Vacant warehouse buildings. The quality of air is depleting. During town hall meetings the people was informed more jobs to the area. NOT TRUE. People of color have to vote and continue to speak up. We will continue to be affected with Chemical imbalances and distruction.

    Wow cuz. That was and is so powerful. Thank you for being such a graceful voice for the voiceless. Please feel free to reach out to me if there's anything I can do to help continue to shed light to the darkness. Its hard to be awake when those who are around you may not be able to digest the truth or even care. I stand with you and trust me, I've done a lot of research on my own and it runs too deep for the average human being to ever be able to handle. The true agenda😔. But those like you who aren't afraid and solely cares for the well being of humanity will ignite the people and we all will unite and make this world a better place. Keep up the great work! Love you❤🙏🏾✊🏾
