@Salmon Man I sometimes feel like there is so many people offended by the sheer existence of vegans and it sometimes seems to me that more people proclaim that they eat meat rather than saying they are vegan. That might be my surroundings, but I still find it funny that the stereotype sticks. And that people try to bring up veganism at any given point, just to make a point that isn't even necessarily grounded in reality.
Fantastic video. An additional point Id like to make, if you believe in global warming on not, we should all be able to agree that we can't keep throwing away trash forever, unless we want to live in a dump.
Alex Schmidt even if carbon dioxide doesn't cause massive global warming, it reacts with ocean water creating carbolic acid, increasing the acidity of the ocean, killing wildlife. Also, global warming is significant not only because of CO2, but also because of methane from cows, which DOES have a large impact on global temperature
The only issue with charging companies for the waste they generate is that they will shift their production somewhere else. USA puts taxes on CO2 emitted, shift production to Bangladesh. Such laws, somehow, need to be implemented around the globe.
@@brandielee7971 the UN isn't really a governing body. It merely... suggests. Have you noticed its list of sustainable goals? They are goals, not laws. In order for it to be taken seriously by all, every nation needs to sign a treaty saying they will take so-and-so steps. Even then, UN doesn't really have means to enforce these agreements. For example, if Trump goes through the entire process of withdrawal from the Paris Agreement, there is no way anyone can stop him from doing so.
whonelly1220 if I'm not wrong he hosts a tv show (this is just from me feeling like I've seen him before and heard his voice on National Geographic) edit: I was right, he hosts "Earth: A New Wild" on NatGeo. Of that one episode I saw, it seemed quite interesting, you should try watching it. I think I saw the episode where they partially castrate a male reindeer to prevent it from fighting with other males during the mating season. Fascinating stuff.
Most of the supermarket chains in Germany stopped having plastic bags this year. Before that you had to pay for them. Now they banned them altogether! American supermarkets should follow
I used to work in a lunch room where they would give people a €0,50 discount when people would bring their own cup for their take away coffee. I thought that was a really smart initiative
Most coffee shops I've seen who accept reusable cups do something similar. Fast-food style ones like Dunkin don't accept cups except for basic coffee/tea. Depending on the drink, the cup costs more than the beverage does for the seller. For example, a fountain soda cup often costs more than the soda inside it. If the seller just discounted the cost of the cup, that's still decent savings for both the seller and the buyer. Less waste and more money for both.
Over here in the states, a place like Starbucks will give you a discount, but it's pathetically small at $0.10. It's really not that much of an incentive when the drinks cost $5+
i think other coffee businesses do that now too, you buy a reuseable cup from them and you get money off each cup. But what are those cups made out of? PLASTIC!
wouldn't charging for plastic bags be just "more capitalism"? It allows companies to see a slight increase in their profits while reducing emissions at the same time. As a free-market supporter this makes sense on so many levels, its a win-win.
dev02ify While true in certain cases free market as far as I understand is more toward large companies not having a buttload of power. Sorta promoting small businesses? But yeah the less regulation in there is certainly part of it. However in some circumstances less regulation is good, like say if the regulation has become outdated and no longer useful, or if its putting a stranglehold on the business. Less regulation is not no regulation after all, companies shouldn't be able to do as they please because at the end of the day they aren't human, they're a large system designed to turn a profit, no matter what. Loosening regulations a bit is something that's good or bad depending on the circumstances, and really that's what it all comes down to, circumstance dictates a lot more than you'd think it would in business. Anyway I've said my piece, feel free to correct any factual errors, please do show me your reasoning though, "your wrong" never really helps all that much. Have a good day, god knows you wasted a few minutes reading this mini essay in the UA-cam comments. Well, hopefully not wasted, but you know what I mean.
I know, but the companies could actively do it as a way to increase profits without needing gov't intervention. What I was trying to say was it is rather strange that these companies dont do this already, it only holds benefits.
We have this thing in Europe (I live in Lithuania) where stores charge extra 10 cents for every bottle (plastic, aluminum and glass) and then you can later return those bottles to a machine and get those 10 cents back
This exisits in America, when you buy most products that are in bottles, glass or plastic, you pay a deposit that is added to the actual price. So its Price+sales tax+ deposit. Its like 5 cents per bottle/can.
That's a cool statement. Our technology still not have developed to have interplanetary voyages nor extract minerals from there. We just have this planet as hope for the existence of life. Still, there is no planet nor asteroid nor moon discovered with footage or image of actual life. We're the just ones.
Ok one other problem I have with this video is that in this society, it is a LUXURY to live zero waste. A low income family with 4-5 kids can not afford to be low waste even if they wanted to. I myself have been living low waste at least in parts of my routine, but with my student bucks I can’t afford to live it all the way through. That is something that needs to change as well. The accessibility
Agreed. I have disabilities so I often need to buy prepackaged things, medical supplies, etc which produces a lot of waste. The video is six years old but I still haven't noticed much of a shift in seeing companies as the driving force behind waste, not consumers.
In Sweden, plastic bags cost nearly a dollar. It's an absolutely amazing way to remind people to bring their own bag, and currently we're one of the most eco friendly countries in the world!
In São Paulo it costs R$0,20, that about U$ 0,04 UDS, and it only started to be charged few years ago. They come with instructions on how to recycle the trash howerver, nobody actually follow them. But it is a beginning!
what makes me really sad about this movement to save the earth is that how little people are doing it, oh yes small things do affect the world but, i cant really see where its going, if only i can take over the world and force everyone to behave, sadly it doesnt work that way, people are always going to be ignorant and find the easiest way possible even when its damaging
In Finland about 96% of plastic bottles get recycled because you can return your bottles to a machine, and get a bit of money from that. One child collected over 2000€ finding bottles and returning them. Please America, ADOPT THIS!
Sisu Rannikko we have machines that pay us for bottles in almost every store, yes, in America Edit: I guess it’s only in 10 states, I live in Michigan so I always assumed it was everywhere.
When I was in Germany, I saw that the paper and plastic bags costs 1€ (a little bit over an American dollar) Everyone in the store had a reusable bag, and I was shocked.
In Spain and Italy they cost from 15-20 cents, and now in Italy the plastic bags for loose fruit/veg cost money and are required by law to be biodegradable
i'm from the usa and i had no idea how much trash we waste. i'm sending this video link to all of my friends and telling them to send it to all their friends. we need to change this.
she is like the most un-snowflakey person who devotes that much time and energy to going green. we need people like that to be spreading the word instead of the non believers misinterpereting the message
Most people are like this and fall somewhere in the middle of the two extremes. It's just that the extremes stand out more and are the ones that get remembered
It's kinda sad. in Montana, we used to have glass recycling, but we stopped having that about 5-6 years ago. I remember going out to recycle then one day the glass one just disappeared. We need this back, Montana.
charging for plastic bags is genuinely an effective policy, it's worked wonders here in the UK, by simply charging 5p for a bag it's reduced the amount of plastic bags in landfill sites drastically and now it's common to just bring your own bags
Richu M and recycle bins are easily accessible, including glass. I don't think I've ever been to a supermarket like Tesco that doesnt have public recycling bins outside.
Richu M I don't agree. The cost is so low that it only reduces the number of bags I will buy per month. It's a small step but too small to solve any problem..
Murky Definitely! One could say It's just a matter of changing people's perspective of things, when that 5p for a bag rule was introduced everyone absolutely hated it, even me, but eventually over time it became a second nature to everyone and most people just got over it
That is true, i tend to carry my bag with me when shopping or use one of them life time bags( i forgot what you call them)but corner shops don't have to charge 5p for bags.
Same with Scotland. We had it before England and I remember my Mum coming to visit from England and complaining about the 5p charge! It seems like such a silly small amount, but happily it really works! Imagine if the whole of the US did that too... awesome : )
"to get better policies - you need to have public support, because politicians and businesses won't take action until people come together and demand it" Individual effort matters!
Group effort matters more. Don't form a mob, but show up as a decent group of decent people and calmly *demand* change. Stay within the law and *demand* change at the same time. Put your money into companies who get it right, and remove it from all other companies.
What I do not understand about the US is you have so many renewable energy sources like the hot and burning sun in Arizona, Carlifornia or Taxes, wind in on the costs and so much geothermal energy. Honestly, a lot of countries would do a lot to have so much opportunities to produce energy but you still rely on inefficent and expensive fossil fuels which will never guarantee the energy-independence of the US. If the government and the companies worked together, the US could go entirely on green renewable energy, could create high-paid sustainable jobs and could even help extremely to stop global warming.
The is a polarization about renewable energy. If it isn’t an exact perfect solution it’s thought of as frivolous and wasteful. You talk about solar energy and someone against it will tell you how sand gets on the panes and would cost money to keep clean. Or that jobs would suffer in the other industry. Windmills kill birds and bats. Etc etc. I even tried showing the person against windmills an article about a tower that shifts with wind to collect the energy instead of having the blades. Plus a lot of people have a nimby complex. They don’t want to see it. Basically what I’m trying to say is some people really don’t want to change as frustrating as it is. You’ll always get a “but what about ...” response. For example I use cloth diapers for my baby and I hear “but what about the energy it takes to wash them. It’s not really any better than disposable is it?” 🙄
The only issue is that as of right now fossil fuels ARE more efficient than renewables, that's why they're being used so much. But as technology improves, renewables should be able to catch up.
Planes, cellphone towers, building windows, pesticides, fence wiring and cars kill way more birds each year than anything. Humans have been destroying bird habitats way before wind energy was a thing. I never see people talking about that but as soon as you bring up turbines that is all they can complain about. Most don’t care about the birds lives, they are just finding excuses because they are afraid of change.
Its also worth pointing out that keeping "the grid" powered is a bit more of a complicated process than is initially thought. For example, California has a problem. The duck curve. This is a curve which shows energy demand vs energy production, in california these days, it swings in a "duck shape" throughout the day. In the morning when people wake up, its kinda in the middle, the sun is at an angle and produces a little energy, but few also use much energy in the morning. The problem is in the noon, energy production peaks because max sun, but few use the electricity. So California must dump it somewhere or risk too much energy being on the grid and causing problems, and they often pay places like Arizona to take it from them. At night, people come home, the lights turn on, but panels arent producing anything, so demand spikes. The current way this is taken care of is by throttling power generation stations, but not all stations can be throttled easily. Natural gas stations are the easiest to crank up and down, but things like nuclear for example... its actually impossible to shut down a nuclear plant at one moment, shutdown takes weeks. And now we have this added layer of things like solar and wind depending wildly on conditions around the place generating power so its harder now. The ideal solution is energy storage, but despite what Ol' Musky says, batteries are still very inefficient and IMO a poor solution to the problem. Other methods aren't much better. Renewable brings its own challenges.
we just recently started in california. the weird thing is, if you ask for paper, you will get a pretty worthless paper bag that isnt garuanteed to hold anything over 3 or 4 lbs but plastic on the other hand......pretty much every store (at least chain stores) has developed new incredibly sturdy plastic bags when you think about how all of these stores had been forced to have a recycle bin JUST for plastic bags since they can not be recycled via our cities recycleing system.........it makes you wonder wtf is really going on for 10 cents I can get a plastic bag that is just as sturdy and reusable as any resusuable bag I can buy from the store for $5 many of my friends have begun buying these bags from the stores and using them as trash bags for small waste bins
I’m glad they mentioned big drink companies like Coke. Because regular everyday people will never destroy the environment as much as one (1) massive corporation. And I love Lauren’s philosophy of giving people options. She’s the reasons why there are more reusable packaging bulk buy stores.
Notice how coke was cheaper when they had glass bottles, it’s bc the glass was reusable and at the time plastic wasn’t nearly as big as it is now. We should just go back to reusable bottles 😕
@@nolin132 Producers flood the market with wasteful products making the most ecological purchases difficult for the average consumer. For example, disposable razors are available everywhere, yet to purchase an old-fashioned safety razor, I needed web access, a computer, and a credit card. In addition, I needed to drive to the warehouse to pick it up. How many people have the time and money available to prioritize that?
@@boboloko that's because the vast majority of people buy disposable razors. If more people wanted to buy safety razors, more stores would sell them too.

I really try to reduce domestic wastes that are produced in my home but my dad always nags and says "what difference it'll make if we're the only ones who do it?" I apologize, Mother Earth.
Maybe it’s just because you haven’t met those who do. Luckily, the internet and specific forums can be great resources to find people in your area that can guide you through it. This can also lead to more people joining the change. Cliche as it is, one person that starts the change leaves the possibility of others to do the same.
Oh, it makes a huge difference! A single first world household produces so much waste! (The statistics are online.) Remember what the Lorax said: Unless someone cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to change, it's not.
Olivia P On the bright side :D we won't have to worry about tax burdens if we die from the after effects of climate change!!! (you could ignore this comment since all I wanted to say was a somewhat witty comment when I am not interested to enter a political of climate related debate :3 so ye)
here in Finland we actually return our plastic bottles to convenience stores and get a few cents back from it that you can use as a discount or just take the money from the cashier
@@EthanParmetItsDaBunny yeah i haven’t even really seen those recycle centers anymore in the last 5 years. I remember them being big around supermarkets 10-20 years ago

exactly, and the problem is the bosses in those businesses instead of providing reusable bags and cups etc they use single use for more profits which in return causes pollution for us it’s hard to change that unless people push companies to even if they lose some profits which is sad tbh

Actually billionaires and corporations outdo any and all attempts of ordinary citizens at going green bc they dump more carbon in one second then all of us do in a year.
I love Japan and living there, but the packaging is unreal. I get almost a whole trash bag filled when buying groceries for 1 week, if I didn't have to separate things into a gazillion different bags. They put a lot of "effort" in recycling and dividing trash, but there is no way to limit your trash. I would love to see a tax on packaging put to manufacturers, it might be the best thing for the country.
SkaiSharku oh my god, I know. You buy a package of snacks but when you open it there's four smaller packages with individually wrapped candies inside. Maybe an exaggeration but danger it feels that way sometimes.
SkaiSharku I know right, I have to divide the trash into 20+ categories for recycling etc, but if they had just reduced the trash from packaging the consumers would save a lot of time and the planet would be happier
I visited Japan and I found the same thing! Where I live, we have a bag tax and our city does recycling, green waste, and compost, so we are fairly conscious of our waste.
Here in Norway our electricity is generated ~95% by hydropower, in addition to that we are the country in the world with the most electric cars per capita. People tend to use electric cars because of all the benefits the government gives them such as free parking, free charging, low yearly fees and much more. We are not perfect when it comes to being eco friendly but other countries cloud learn a lot from us.
Parkerz you are 5 million people and generate a lot of your electricity from water (for example waterfalls). In Germany however we are 80 million people it gets a lot harder to just generate ecofriendly electricity for everybody, though we are trying :) What I also really like about Scandinavian countries is, that you have way more No-Waste-Shops, where you can fill up everything you need
Yes there are a lot of electric cars because they are heavily subsidized by your government. Where does the money for said subsidies come from one might ask ? From all of the oil and gasoline that your country sells!!! If I’m wrong please let me know. All u are doing is taking your carbon footprint and letting people burn it in other parts of the world. To be honest I am totally fine with this and think it is a great for I guys but come on let’s be real and not try to act all high and mighty.
Germany is getting really good at using wind, solar and biomass. Granted I'm not a big fan of biomass, all that it is is just that it's renewable, but it is better than coal. The rate is increasing every year.
That would be so cute If you weren't one of the biggest oil producers in the world lol Maybe pollution is ok as long as it happens outside of your borders

Our family re-uses them for trash cans as well. That way it's not just a single use, but a double use and prevents you from buying a whole box of bags just to use for trash!
There's also a small bounty on ALL empty cans/bottles and glass bottles that can be claimed by simply putting the cans/bottles/glass bottles into a large-scale machine that is commonly found in Finnish grocery stores. These things might apply to all other Nordic countries as well.
I've been getting into zero-waste-sustainable-living UA-cam lately, but an educational and encourage video like this is just what I needed. What's the harm in keeping a reusable cup or two in my car?
Possibly the best video I've ever seen regarding climate change and what we can do to change that. Everyone tells us to be good people and recycle, but nobody explained to us exactly how our goodness can leave an impact - and many people including me tend to get impatient.
PhedelCastro Toilet paper in the US is designed to decompose in a septic tank (they are flushed down the toilet). For menstrual products she probably uses something like menstrual cups which are made out of Silicon and other materials but are 100% reusable.
OspreyBravo18 There would be almost no effect if we're talking about the carbon emissions. recent studies show that if all of the world's countries were to simultaneously drop their production of carbon emissions right now by what I believe they said was 50% or something along those lines, that we would only see a drop of atmospheric carbon dioxide of around .08%. On top of this, Carbon dioxide is actually fairly good for the environment. Carbon dioxide DOES increase the temperature of the environment by a very slight margin, allowing plants enzymes to speed up, which, ironically, allows them to carry out photosynthesis more quickly, and in the process use up carbon dioxide. The abundance of co2 in the atmosphere helps the plants as well because it also allows them to carry out photosynthesis more frequently. this creates a cycle in which the plants use the carbon dioxide being created. And even if plants can't keep up with the co2, it won't matter because water vapor is the real culprit for global warming and cooling. Even big climate change supporters will tell you that water vapor is the biggest greenhouse gas. The reason that carbon dioxide doesn't have so much of an effect is that co2 reflects just as much heat out of the atmosphere as it traps in. In fact, during the ice age there is evidence that there was a lot of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/environment/climatechange/4061092/Greenhouse-gases-could-have-caused-an-ice-age-claim-scientists.html Most scientists who are on the climate change train would claim that the environment would be hot and the surface would be cold, but this doesn't make clear sense, since the same scientists claim that smaller portions of co2 in our atmosphere would singificantly heat up our surface and our atmosphere. The much more likely scenario is that both the surface and the atmosphere were cold. the co2 would block out heat from getting in, and their would be less water vapor in the atmosphere because more of it than today would be on the surface as ice and snow. And even if their is some terrible global warming catastrophe, then we could fairly easily curb the problem with genetically modified plants. Scientists have already started working on trees that can do this, and I can't remember the exact name but I believe they've already got one that works fairly well.
Japan just went to charging for bags! I'm so happy, everyone carrys a backpack or some sort of bag but the cashiers were like ninjas and had everything bagged while you were getting out your money.
Oh btw, if the place charge for bags they usually will offer you first and not putting your stuffs in the bag right away. They only do that without asking first at places where the bags are free
bruh. I swear-- in the beginning, it was really hard to refuse plastic bags in the supermarket because, when I did so, it was almost as if I had bothered THEM. Maybe because it usually stops them mid-action or mid-intention since they just go for it so quickly...
In finland, you do have to pay for how much pollution you let out in the air. this goes for for factories, cars etc. and it does work pretty well. but sadly alot of carcompanies are trying to cheat by for example letting out more pollution when you're on the road than when the car is checked!

In México, we still using reusable bottles of glass for sodas, obviously we sell plastic bottles but they are a little bit more expensive. The sodas in glass bottles taste better tho
My grandmas shop in Mexico incentivizes returned Coca-Cola bottles by taking off some of the cost of a new bottle. And the Coca Cola company comes by every once in a while to pick up the bottles and recycle them
I remember the first time I saw how people in Belgium returned their beer bottles to the liquor store. It was amazing to see this huge reuse effort actually working in parallel to shopping for new beer. Customers had plastic containers (think milk crates for beer) that held 20-30 bottles each and they would arrive with 2 or 3 of these cartons to refill with new beer bottles each trip. A small fee to buy your first carton and then you're on your way returning and reusing.
Not only beer, in a lot of european countries we have this system for other drinks like, soda, juice, water(drinking tab water would bd better, but some houses still have old lead pipes) and also things like milk and yoghurt!
Blixten Mcsnabb that's because you're Sweden your country maintains neutrality with the world around you. By doing that you're government can only focus on internal issues. So don't brag that you're better just encourage others to follow suit.

And what is left can often be biodegradable. Ergo, it will be returned to the soil rather quickly. Or burned for fuel and the fumes collected by the same process as Saskatchewan's most recent coal plant to try to mitigate the emissions.
Landfill space doesn't make the "top 10" of ecological issues facing us today. Inert, non-bio-degradable trash "just sits there"; it doesn't break down into anything harmful (by benefit of not being bio-degradable). The disease problems (rats and other vermin) is from the "bio-degradable" stuff. A plastic bag in a landfill "just sits there."

You know what is interesting about the video? how the guy asks the question whether recycling does anything at all to stop the progress of global warming, and then just skips it. That's the kind of stuff that makes you wonder.
if companies didn't make sure there were skeptics and critics, there wouldn't be any. but they fund propaganda and advertisements to make you think you're polluting less, but you're not actually doing much, and the companies still make all the money. also, lobbyists keep government powerless. an example: they tell us to buy more "slightly less polluting" products, but added up, the company makes more money and we destroy earth faster
It’s funny how we can often think our small individual actions don’t matter. Yes they may be small individually, but collectively the impact can be huge. In terms of climate impact, it’s the collective impact that matters most.
These are all great alternatives, I’m going to try this but in Canada they prints receipts almost everywhere & theres a lot of self checkouts & no options to opt out of getting a receipt. Kinda sad
Hi... I noticed this was happening at my local library, so I wrote their director and asked if they could switch to at least ASK patrons if they wanted a receipt. They adopted it in just a couple of days. Writing these companies directly does work -- more so when it's at a smaller local level, than at say, the government level (but that is important too, you just won't see the effects quickly or ever). Right now, I'm in the process of writing each and every library director in my state to do paperless receipts if they don't already do so. FYI: I just found out that Bob's Stores will also email you a receipt, but you have to request this at the time of purchase, so I put a reminder directly on my Bob's key fob "No Receipt Please" so they and I both see it. :)
The best way to lower co2 emissions is to know where you’re money is going. While you can pay for eco friendly and vegan products, the money you spend on it can still go to a company that contributes to producing waste and co2. Getting products from more eco friendly companies means that money goes towards them instead of wasteful corporations
Nah mate, that's definitely not the best way to do it. Government mandated economic incentives on big corporations is far more efficient, by several orders of magnitude.

WHAT WHY ARE YOU HERE
In Denmark you get money for returning bottles and is why 90% of bottles are recycled.
Cans: 15 cents
0.5L bottles: 22 cents

I know it's amazing!
Very simpel and effective and it doesn't even cost the population money.
The only issue with charging companies for the waste they generate is that they will shift their production somewhere else. USA puts taxes on CO2 emitted, shift production to Bangladesh. Such laws, somehow, need to be implemented around the globe.
This is a really great point! It should be more global and i mean the entire fight against climate change requires everyone!

@Ameer bei uns nicht
they tried that in dallas texas but people went crazy, it only lasted a month
that's already happening in california
It’s happening in some states already in the US.
That is such a cool idea
Over here in the states, a place like Starbucks will give you a discount, but it's pathetically small at $0.10. It's really not that much of an incentive when the drinks cost $5+
i think other coffee businesses do that now too, you buy a reuseable cup from them and you get money off each cup. But what are those cups made out of? PLASTIC!
Wtf there's no bag fee in the US? In France they charge you 70c for a plastic bag, I almost never get one
Sorcha Leary in California there is a 10 cent surcharge for bags
In Britain its 5p for plastic bags and 10p for reusable plastic bags.
wouldn't charging for plastic bags be just "more capitalism"?
We have this thing in Europe (I live in Lithuania) where stores charge extra 10 cents for every bottle (plastic, aluminum and glass) and then you can later return those bottles to a machine and get those 10 cents back
I like that idea. Kinda wish we had that in America. The best you get here is by collecting pounds of aluminum and getting 16 cents a pound.

Yeah that's why the video said the responsibility should be on the producers not the consumers.
Agreed. I have disabilities so I often need to buy prepackaged things, medical supplies, etc which produces a lot of waste. The video is six years old but I still haven't noticed much of a shift in seeing companies as the driving force behind waste, not consumers.

charging for plastic bags is genuinely an effective policy, it's worked wonders here in the UK, by simply charging 5p for a bag it's reduced the amount of plastic bags in landfill sites drastically and now it's common to just bring your own bags

Intentionally wrote -Taxes- ?

Also everyone wants to give you gifts that are unnecessary.
In Germany however we are 80 million people it gets a lot harder to just generate ecofriendly electricity for everybody, though we are trying :)
What I also really like about Scandinavian countries is, that you have way more No-Waste-Shops, where you can fill up everything you need
Not all countries is lucky enough to have the natural resources that you have
That would be so cute If you weren't one of the biggest oil producers in the world lol
Maybe pollution is ok as long as it happens outside of your borders

I'm white and my family has always kept them under the sink. Lol
Our family re-uses them for trash cans as well. That way it's not just a single use, but a double use and prevents you from buying a whole box of bags just to use for trash!
Bag fees have been a thing in Finland since 1942. I'm not making this up, this is real.
There's also a small bounty on ALL empty cans/bottles and glass bottles that can be claimed by simply putting the cans/bottles/glass bottles into a large-scale machine that is commonly found in Finnish grocery stores. These things might apply to all other Nordic countries as well.
Lassigamer i don't know about the other nordic countries, but all this aplies to Sweden as well (:
And Germany too! But the plastic bag fee was just put into action recently
Also Save-a-Lot has them.
Lassigamer Thank you for acknowledging our attempt at eco friendliness!
We must declare a "No Plastic Day" for all in a year. If all makes effort to not use plastic for a day, earth can catch a lil break !
A week would be almost 2% of a year...
I love that idea ❤️
Well guess I'll just wait 24h to put my water bottle in recycling
Tripti Shukla goodluck with that, and it won’t do much
Instead of a no plastic day a plastic clean up day would do much more if everybody cleaned up plastic for a day instead of working or staying home

PhedelCastro menstrual cups for the period portion

OspreyBravo18 Europe has been doing this for years.
Nicholas Christensen thank you for sharing, this was quite informative:)

bruh. I swear-- in the beginning, it was really hard to refuse plastic bags in the supermarket because, when I did so, it was almost as if I had bothered THEM. Maybe because it usually stops them mid-action or mid-intention since they just go for it so quickly...
We do that in Australia too
In finland, you do have to pay for how much pollution you let out in the air. this goes for for factories, cars etc. and it does work pretty well. but sadly alot of carcompanies are trying to cheat by for example letting out more pollution when you're on the road than when the car is checked!
17 cents for plastic bags here in Finland. It forced me to start thinking about how I could reuse and recycle.
Sadly I still bought the plastic bag for 10 cents. XD but it's good since I'll reuse it!! Lol
Also I'm very confused with your statement about car emissions.... and how the company cheats??

I like this guy moderating, his presenting and the videos content were pretty good.
3:53 in the phillippines we still do that, if a store sell something with glass we give it back to them and they give us discount.
Don’t let this distract you from the fact that Mr Krabs sold Spongebob for 65 cents.

it's insane because If everyone did this it would take everyone in the USA to fill a 2 mile landfill and possibly less in a year. It's crazy.
And what is left can often be biodegradable. Ergo, it will be returned to the soil rather quickly. Or burned for fuel and the fumes collected by the same process as Saskatchewan's most recent coal plant to try to mitigate the emissions.
Too bad humans aint that smart
Or maybe humans are just too dumb or rebelious
Kurogi Humans are intelligent. We’re just lazy.
Landfill space doesn't make the "top 10" of ecological issues facing us today. Inert, non-bio-degradable trash "just sits there"; it doesn't break down into anything harmful (by benefit of not being bio-degradable). The disease problems (rats and other vermin) is from the "bio-degradable" stuff.

how the guy asks the question whether recycling does anything at all to stop the progress of global warming, and then just skips it. That's the kind of stuff that makes you wonder.
read: lobbyists
if companies didn't make sure there were skeptics and critics, there wouldn't be any. but they fund propaganda and advertisements to make you think you're polluting less, but you're not actually doing much, and the companies still make all the money. also, lobbyists keep government powerless. an example: they tell us to buy more "slightly less polluting" products, but added up, the company makes more money and we destroy earth faster

When you buy stuff a receipt is printed wether you take it or the cashier just throws it in the garbage, I’m just curious how you get around that?
That, or you gotta act fast before they print it, sometimes the register has a button to not print the receipt.
2jin ask for email, or take the recipe and turn it into paper (I’m not being sarcastic, this is a project I like to do lol)
Taylor & Allison A-TAY at my old store we have a no receipt or an email receipt option
The best way to lower co2 emissions is to know where you’re money is going. While you can pay for eco friendly and vegan products, the money you spend on it can still go to a company that contributes to producing waste and co2. Getting products from more eco friendly companies means that money goes towards them instead of wasteful corporations
