- Mr H visits the outside grounds of the historic Norman castle of St Briavels in Gloucestershire. The castle was once a favourite hunting lodge of King John and has also been used as a Debtor's Prison but today the castle is now owned by English Heritage and has been a Youth Hostel since 1948.
Mr H your videos make my day. Thank you
Hi Jason, it's nice to hear that you are enjoying the videos and thanks for the feedback.
Thanks I needed this I am sleeping there this summer holidays
Hi Dooley, my wife has stayed there before and says that it's great. I'm sure that you'll have a fantastic time.
Great stuff Mr H! I hope Jimmy is okay.
Hi Roger, Jimmy okay and plodding on as usual but thanks for asking I'll pass on your regards. Sadly between his comedy gigs, my work commitments and the fantastic British weather we've been finding it difficult to find a mutually convenient time to get back round the Fireside but we are hoping to do so again very soon.
love it, taking the windows tho ;O
Hi Al, apparently glass was very expensive and valuable when it first became popular and why landowners resorted to these extreme lengths to protect their windows. When I first heard the story I had the image of some wealthy landowner returning to find his castle ransacked by thieves but consoling himself with the fact he still had his windows!
