    Brilliant video as usual Sandy. Loved seeing the wild Boar. That was brilliant. I agree with you that they should be left alone as it is their home and we are just visiting. Keep making the videos.

    Great to see you out enjoying it Sandy. You got lucky at last with the boar.
    My old scoutmaster used to camp with a setup just like yours. That was about 55 years ago and he was in his sixties at the time.
    Love to all,
    Noel

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  9 років тому

      Thanks Noel,
      When I first spotted the boar I only had the gopro camera with me which has no zoom, so when I got back to camp I quickly swapped cameras and went back with the old camera with zoom and tripod. I had a good idea the boar would not move too far away so it was not too difficult to find them again. I was lucky as I spotted them before they spotted me.

    Thanks for taking us with you Sandy on what was probably a well earned break. It must have been quite an experience for you to have seen the wild-boar up-close like that. Nice to hear the owls as well. Take care & all the best, Neil.

      It was lovely to see them Mary. They are so small.. The boar do breed quickly. I had better upgrade my rifle to a centre fire.

    Another great video Sandy, Like all wildlife with out natural predators a cull will be necessary from time to time to manage the herd and keep it healthy. Until such times as Wolfe s are reintroduced into the eco system a cull is a necessary thing. One only has to look at the management of deer to see the problems that can arise.

    That has to one of your best video Sandy. Yes, the Wild Boar might be tasty but these is plenty other options to eat. I say let them live free and give the woodland some life. ATB Jeff

      @WiltshireMan  9 років тому

      Thanks Jeff, I hope theywill properly manage the boar and not exterminate them completely. There is enough space for them here.

    Most Excellent! Wild boar pics! Very nicely done! Thank you.
    Here in the American South [especially Texas], wild pig sounders reach over one hundred animals at times, and they do wreak havoc on the land; the damage is considerable. Good eating, lol.

    Thankyou once more for another spectacular video sandy. That was, I think. probably the best bit of footage i have ever seen of wild boar. Better than any footage i have seen on tv. Brilliant.....better shots there than johnny english and jason king could have achieved. I liked the drone ariel footage to....good idea to give some example of the terrain you are in...PROPER JOB THAT SANDY.........More of the same would be welcome. cheers sandy

    Excellent footage, i have been fishing and camping the biblings stretch of river for years and have had the pleasure of seeing the wild bore on a couple of occasions myself, a truly awesome experience.

    Hi Sandy, for a cobbled together vid, that was great. I loved the views of the evening sky with the stars. The use of your 'eye in the sky' adds a whole new dimension to your videos, gives the watcher a clearer understanding of the area you are in.
    The footage of the wild boar was great, I felt quite tickled when all the piglets ran into view.
    Great work

    Great Sandy, boar are so misunderstood, with lack of understanding of the way they live causing bad feeling and misguided fear.
    I happen to love the animal, and i have been lucky enough to have been surrounded by a large group of boar and class myself as blessed, never have i seen any threatening behaviour.
    I look forward to our next adventure.

    Fresh wild pig is excellent.
    In Great Britain the wild boar has its place. They do not do so much damage to the environment. In the Mesolythic they were a staple.
    Today the wild feral pigs of great Britain are not a problem to the bush - they do not do enough damage.
    Sandy, your view on life is balanced.

      Thanks Ade,
      It was a wonderful thing to see the boar up close. I agree to the need for proper managemant of the boar but am against a total wipe out which is what I have heard talk about. These animals have their place in Britain for sure.

    We heard some boar in the bushes there once, not very far from that campsite. We didn't hang around to make visual though, had a dog with us who loves chasing anything animal kingdom. We like like that place also, we usually stay in the log cabins immediately the other side of those woods you camped next to there, but sometimes the campsite.The log cabins there are lovely, CH dishwashers and all mod cons, internet, Sky TV, and even have hotubs on the veranda if you want to pay a bit extra, going back to stay in one in the middle of April, the life of Riley, (not quite wild camping).! Thanks Sandy.

    Thanks for sharing this Sandy, Loved the views of the Boar and young ones. I'm not getting into any political dialogue of the rights and wrongs of culling, obviously, if that's the right word wildlife can out grow its surroundings, but so often no matter what creature it is "someone" will call for a cull. "If it bleeds kill it". BUT "someone" will always be "there" to make Cash out of the cull regardless. Sermon ended :)
    Cheers......Les.

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  9 років тому +2

      Hi Les,
      Without a doubt there needs to be a level of control on the boar or they will out breed the area and cause a lot of damage, but a properly managed cull is the right thing to o in the log term. The other route is to reintroduce wolves and bears into the equation then wild camping would really have an element of excitement.

    Fantastic spot mate and you were really fortunate to see the wild boar, that will be a moment you will cherish forever. May I ask what tent you were using Sandy, and did you need extra flue sections for the frontier stove?

    In Florida where I live, we would avoid a group of wild boar. They are very aggressive and will attack if they have piglets. They do make great BBQ. Thrilling.

    that was just what i needed my mate.
    i agree with you on the boar mate, i believe in moderation.
    a woodland of a certain size is capable of sustaining up to a certain amount of wildlife - if it gets out of hand - thats where we step in and control it a little to obtain that equilibrium.
    let them be free - you were in the right place at the right time for sure, nice footage too.
    i echo what mark said - what camera did you use to get the star scape with?
    excellent work

    • @WiltshireMan
      @WiltshireMan  9 років тому +2

      Hi Darren,
      The starscape was shot using my Nikon dslr. I had the camera set to manual mode and made very long exposers of around 10 to 15 seconds. I may do a video on how I did this as a few are asking how to do it.
      The Boar were fantastic.

    Amazing trees in the forest. It appears some were pruned to provide poles for ancient housing.

    Boars are beautiful animals, mate... actually, any animal seen in the wild is a sight for sure. I had a boar charge at my camp one night and only turned away at the last moment cos my campfire scared it away. They can be dangerous animals that's why they must be treated with respect. Not trying to demonise them or anything, mate... just saying they need to be respected, like everything else in nature. Totally agree that it is their home and we are the visitors)) awesome dinner at the end!! Love the camera work too. Thanks for sharing, Sandy atb mate))

    Great video Sandy! If you are inside a shelter and they start walking around it and touch the tarp, what would you do? Im always afraid that during the night they try to get inside the shelter! Thanks 🙏

      I would just make a noise, speak gently and they will just scarper. A human in the woods is by far the scariest and most dangerous thing by far for the other wildlife!

    Loved it, best bit was def the wild boar and the babies running past, so nice to see them, i have tried a couple of times to catch them and all i have is 1 blurry photo of them, i couldnt find them at all, going this weekend wild camping in the forest see what i can come up with, like the airel film what drone you using? i have just brought a Phantom 4, love it, being disabled i can now look where i want to go rather than going there and finding nothing, it helps. great film keep it up.

    Great video once again Sandy, and great to see the Boar in their element. Got me thinking what boar bacon night taste like and got me hungry - again, and I've just had brekky. It's a shame that there is a conflict between these animals and domestic farming, but pigs being what they are I can see how they might cause problems. BTW that's a great tent and stove combo you have there. What is it? All the best!!

    Really enjoyed this video Sandy great chat and video footage and stills. I totally agree with your thoughts on the bad press and culling program, great capture man with the boar and the teepee and wood burner is brilliant.would it take long for the burner to cool down before you can collapse it down? Sending Love from Ireland ♥

    Wild boar, like deer, have no natural predators in the UK. So shooting a few occasionally to keep the numbers down can't be a bad thing in my books. Plus they both taste so nice :)

      I agree Edward, there will need to be a control for sure I just hope they don't go overboard and wipe them out. There was talk of eradicating them entirely which would be a great shame.

    Having lived in the Forest of Dean for 10 years. The Wild Boar were reintroduced. The Forester's opinion is, they are an absolute pest. They devastate the Forester's free grazing rights of sheep and cattle in the Forest. Charging and mutilating eve's in lamb. Charging and injuring young calves. The grazing rights were granted by royal proclamation some 300 years ago. The people responsible for the reintroduction are now very concerned and beginning to regret the act.Regards, Lamplighter.
