    I just finished this job an hour ago and i did everything as he did except i only released the drivers side tie rod and the pitman and idler arms and left the passenger side tie rod end installed. I was trying to be lazy and leave the whole steering mechanism in but the diff didnt maker past the steering rods so i stayed lazy and only released 3 of the 4 joints he stated. I left the tires on and did this on ramps on the ground. I did take the tires off tontake out the cv bolts but then put thr tires back on to ride it up the ramps thus giving me crush protection and extra room to work.
    Greay job on the extremely clear instructions and videos angles.
    Hope my adventure helps someone else out.

    Only after following this video did I find out, absolutely nothing on the tie rods needs to be removed. Pull the plates, axles and cross member and the diff comes right out.

    I took it out without removing the steering arms.... putting it in was another story. All day changing gaskets, the timing chain and oil pump so I said nahhh I'll tackle this shit tomorrow. Guess those steering arms are coming off right after my morning coffee 😅

    As I was changing the oil, found out why front axle stopped working. Shaft connected to front differential is loose as a goose.
    Would I have to remove differential to replace bearings and seal?

    • @obfuscated3090
      @obfuscated3090 Рік тому +2

      It would be a lot easier than trying to fight the diff in place, and if the front axle quit working I'd pull it and tear down for inspection because loose input shaft bearings alone should not cause it to cease transmitting power. A good used diff from a self-service salvage might serve you well to inspect then swap out so you can drive the truck without being delayed working on the old diff.

      @@paulhochstetler165 Doing this job right now on a 2004 1500 Sierra. Looks like the cross member attaches to a bracket that sticks out directly under the rear diff input yoke. We are going to remove the steering arm, and then IF needed, remove the cross member. Update soon.
      - Update: We removed the steering rod, rotated diff forward and lowered it while clearing the stabilizer bar. Came out smooth and nice, did not remove crossmember.
      Stay gold.
