Excellent! Thanks as always, Dr. C!
Thank you, sir. Great game!
That opening joke was kinda AWESOME
I do what I can.
I was super excited about this expansion… until I saw what’s coming in Stalingrad where results of each scenario impact what scenario you play next. That game is going to be AMAZING!
Agreed.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer
Agreed with Cody's agreement.
Another fun one…”uncle Cody” 😂
Thanks!
Looking forward to picking up this expansion. THanks for the upload!
I think you'll get a big kick out of it. Thanks!
Most importantly, the reinforcement box allows room for the cards to be sleeved.
Indeed.
Another great review!
Thanks!
I think there's a trade-off between a solitaire game system's admin level and how smart it is. The old VG Ambush system took a ton of maintenance but left you feeling like you were playing a smart human opponent; AH's B17 was way simpler but left you feeling you were just chucking dice. I've yet to try the Undaunted solo system (it's on my shelf of shame) but I look forward to giving it a spin
Good point.
My copy just arrived yesterday. I can't wait to give the 4 player rules a try.
Great fun.
This was deal of the day at Game Nerdz, came here to see if it was worth it. Was just about to decide that I don't need it and click off the video when you mentioned 4 player... purchased!
You’ll love it. One of the best expansions ever, IMHO.
Negotiation in games you say? That’s why Diplomacy is my favorite game of all time! Game of Thrones (FFG) aside, I just wish there was another game out there that captured that negotiation plus secret orders mechanic. Not quite the same, but I’m about to order a deluxe copy of War of Whispers. Should be fun!
War Room has negotiation and secret orders, although it’s a bit different that GoT or Diplomacy. In fact, Larry Harris partially based the design on Diplomacy.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Of course you’re right. Unfortunately I’m foggy on War Room - not because I don’t own it but because my copy arrived two weeks before the pandemic and I have yet to gather enough people in one room to play it… well I could get the people but then my wife (who works in the medical field) would hand me divorce papers lol
Thank you for your review. I am a chess player and love the mental challenge it provides. For variety I thought I should try a war game. Undaunted is one I am considering. But I have also looked at Memoir 44. Which game will give me the greatest challenge and complexity?
I don't think either is overly complex. They're both great games. Gun to my head I'd go with Undaunted.
I am pretty excited about Reinforcements but with the card color issues I’ve put it aside waiting for the replacement cards to be printed.
I honestly don’t find it to be too big a deal. Hasn’t hurt my enjoyment of the game any.
Same. It hasn't even remotely been an issue. They're reprinting them, and I signed up for them, so I consider that a big plus for Osprey for doing that. But even if they hadn't, I'd still not be impeded in enjoying the game because of it.
i may have to get this one
Indeed. Great game.
Solo ai was fiddly and annoying but after I had it memorised it was amazing. One scenario where I realized Germans prioritised extermination over objectives and used that against them was a real highlight.
Awesome!
Ah this looks goood
It is.
Great review! 4P is the BEST!!! :) :)
Indeed.
Wow. I sure missed the boat on this expansion. Can NOT find a copy in the US. Maybe not looking in the right places??
I'm hoping there will be a reprint before too long. Very fun expansion.
🔨 Sold
Indeed.
I haven’t picked it up yet because I heard the back of the expansion cards are a different shade of color and you can easily differentiate them from the base games which is a bit problematic
I didn't find that to be an issue with my set, the only thing I noticed was that the cards were a very slightly different size than the cards from Normandy and North Africa. Sleeving solved that issue easily. Osprey is offering replacement cards for those who have this issue.
It hasn't been an issue for any of the games I've played. Really not a big deal.
Cards were fine with the copy of the game I received.
I have North Africa but haven't played yet and will likely need to teach the game when I do. Does the solo stick close enough to the standard 2 player game that it will help me learn the game?
Yes, but they are different experiences, to be sure.
Hi - I have a quick question that's going to seem pretty random. I'm trying to compile a database of online reviewers' various Top 100s (or 40s, or whatever) of all time. The more data I have (including knowing what games were considered and rejected), the better. I'm certainly including your Top 100, but I'd like to include Zac's as well. Do you know if he rates games on BGG, and if so, what his username is?
And do you plan on issuing a Top 100 for 2022? Your last one was more than a year ago, so you're due. :)
Thanks!
I don’t believe Zac rates his games on BGG (and I only do it sporadically). I don’t think I’ll do a top 100 this year. A lot of work. Maybe next year. Best of luck with your database. Let me know when it’s ready.
Is the control rule not less strict now? You can flip even if another unit is there unless it’s already controlled and there is an enemy unit?
You cannot control a location if another unit is present.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer From what I understood in the updated rules, you can flip a scout token to a control even if an enemy is there, but you can't do it if it's BOTH already controlled by the opponent AND an enemy unit is there, updating from original Normandy where you couldn't flip a scout into a control if an enemy was present.
@@Janisurai you are right, in original normandy, you can't flip a scout / control token (no matter the actual position) if there is an enemy unit in the tile. I like the new relaxed rule a lot.
Looks like its not listed on the osprey site and I can't seem to find it to purchase. Anyone else had any luck?
I'm sure they'll be a reprint before too long.
Several players per side add so much friction. You can almost do away with friction rules.
?
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer May comment was in repsonse to your statement that the four-player version is the best way of playing this game. I meant to say that much of the friction which historical wargamers love can be achieved by dividing the troops of the two sides into smaller "subdivisions" and giving them to multiple players on both sides. Coordination breaks down more often than not and you begin to understand the problems of the real CnCs. Many two-player games have rules restricitng your ability to react and switch plans. With multiple players on each side, you almost do not need these rules.
Ah, thanks for the clarification.
Great review. I think I will have to invest in this one and a base game. Slowly working my way through Fields of Fire 2. Ugh! What a slog. Brilliant game dispite the horrid rule book.
Great games with horrid rule books are the bane of the hobby.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer GMT needs to fix that issue, especially their errata issues. Imperial Struggle is a good example. They missed issues pointed out to them online regarding the graphics on the game board. The company spent a small fortune fixing the issue with the graphics, by sending out stickers to everyone who bought Imperial Struggle, myself being one of those people. Included with the package I received from GMT, are some stickers, cards and player aids for 'All Bridges Burning', a COIN game. Other games they have developed have had these issues.
Wil you make a review of stalingrad ?
As soon as I play it.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer cool looking forward to it.
If you only own Normandy or North Africa, is this still worth it?
100%. The four player system, the tank scenarios make it a must have.
Anything on a possible reprint on "Reinforcements "?
I haven't heard anything.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer can't see 100 or so for an add on. Guess we'll wait...
So..... do you like the tanks?
I do. I actually like how they work here better that in North Africa.
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I know. I was just kidding with you since you mentioned it several times in the video. Obviously, it wasn't a very good joke. As always, great content on your part!
@@danacoleman4007 Thank you. Much obliged! (Sometimes people don't actually watch the video and ask me questions about stuff I answer, hence my confusion).
Got all three boxes, cool game, although the ability to attack from anywhere on the map can make it quite a “attack that one unit non stop” type of strategy. Did you notice the same?
That's a possibility, but by doing that you allow other units to advance towards objective points unmolested. Also, remember that you add +1 to the target number for each tile the shot has to cross the border of to get to the target. So while yes, you COULD shoot at the opponent's Riflemen when they're in a clear terrain tile for no cover bonus, if you're shooting from 4 tiles away that 4+ becomes an 8+ to hit...
Ditto Tux.
@@Tuxedoian yeah very good point, I've only played it twice, despite investing in it all! Need to get it to the table more, struggling to get my group to prioritse it over Root
@@Tuxedoian True, but in NA, if you have a couple of Snipers rotating, that powerful 3 dice attack tends to pull your strategy in the direction of long range pot shots.
Yep, it's a lot of fun, nearly as much as "Blood Rage Lite" (done for free by a true engineer player)
