It's been two weeks and I can confirm that I am completely naked right now. Clearly, my hologram outfit looks great, considering how all eyes are on me.
It's always interesting how these futuristic fashion predictions always base themselves on what things like phone tech and cars look like, not like what is new in garment producing technology nor the very much changing material conditions of clothes making, nor even fashion trends! Like in older movies they'd depict the future with people wearing things all slick and chrome because that's what the new emerging tech was looking like and it was exciting, and it was easy to associate the overall ~future~ with that aesthetic. There’s a science fiction-like fixation on technology in most “what will clothes look like in the future?” articles. I think, in the future, the main concern will become the weather and people will wanna be both sun safe and ready for extremely cold, rainy conditions - not AI and incorporating technology into our outfits. Historically, clothing and interior design/architecture have shared style trends. You have Chinoiserie in design and Japonism in fashion in the late 1800s, romanticism in dress and in painting in the 1840s, neoclassical dress and architecture in the late 1790 through 1810s.
I was kinda hoping at least one of these articles would analyse the way fashion has developed over the past century and try to continue that development into the future.

The funniest thing about 'maybe we'll have disposable paper clothes' is...bro. *We already did that.* In the 60s in the US and UK, paper dresses were all the rage for a while!!!! So much so that after a bit they even started making versions that had wood pulp mixed with some fabric to last more than one or two uses, but still able to be thrown away and easily modified just with scissors and tape instead of sewing! They had them in all sorts of colours and patterns, and even different styles, though all simple (the style of the 60s was simple shift-like dresses anyway though, so it lent well!). It was seen as the modern thing, and sort of liberating for women in a few ways (less work re: sewing with mending or altering, washing, etc. The sexual freedom of the idea of going out in an easily torn off literal paper dress during a time when they were fighting to express their sexuality openly, to wear shorter skirts, etc.), but by the 70s, the heavy consumerism of the idea of literal disposable clothes was clashing too heavily with increasingly hippie ideals, so it died out (plus corporations were producing fabric clothes more cheaply and flimsily, which made them more disposable than before, if not as much as the paper dresses. Obviously that's a trend that has only continued to get worse up until today - you buy something and within a week there's a hole). I think it's fun and interesting history!
As somebody literally studying fashion design, these articles always amaze me bc they entirely ignore all established academic analysis on fashion that studies what direction fashion moves in and why. Like, there are experts that study fashion forecasting and academics within fashion history that have written books on this topic, but BuzzFeed or whatever is j like... ok, but what if everything was monochrome and shiny... lol
@@TwoBitColorPencil hmmm depends on what specifically you're interested in, but I would generally rec getting into 20th C fashion history (The History of Modern Fashion by Daniel Cole is a straightforward one) bc it helps develop an understanding of how style develops. in terms of forecasting, generally, I would refer more to sites like WGSN instead of books bc books are generally kinda dated in terms of like predicting whats up&coming. wgsn requires a subscription but they have the best articles on trend analysis, up and coming industry developments, technological progress in textile production and sustainability, etc.
@@arienesantos7891 kinda depends as to the timeline we are talking, but in terms of the way future, there are basically two directions the industry can go: either we get way more fast fashion-focused, with super quick trends, borderline disposable attire, etc, or the production cycle eventually slows down again, which also allows for fabric to be sourced more sustainably. If the latter happens (which would be better for our world overall), fashion will generally be less fad-oriented and lean towards precise tailoring, functionality, and durability, because clothing will be sold as a more expensive, long-lasting investment item instead of like a spring break outfit if that makes sense.
@@mildlyconcerning the paper dresses were basically single use/novelty items, it was part of the marketing! the material wasn't literally printer paper but a slightly reinforced bonded cellulose fiber, so it might have had some resistance to water although they were sold with instructions not to wash them
(Perspective from someone within the fashion industry.) I think a lot of these tech companies that are trying to predict and create the fashion of the future take a lot of the essence of fashion away from it. The craft, the care, and the stories that reside within a piece of clothing or collection is what it is truly about. It is an art form and just like any art form it becomes commercialised. Will say though Vollebak who made the wood shirt is a very impressive brand when it comes to the materials and construction that they use when creating their garments so definitely all the respect to them. Edit: forgot to mention great video Danny!!:)
I guarantee most people couldn't care less about "the craft, care, and stories" behind clothes. They just care that it either looks good or shows off how much money they have to blow so they can use it as a status symbol. It's like with any other art. You can put your heart into a piece and no one will even notice it while someone can just scribble on a piece of paper and some numpty will buy it up.
Fr the wooden tshirt slays, and I see that they have a lot of eco-friendly clothing options. I’m the type to always feel too hot, so after hearing Danny talk so much about how cold the shirt is I wish I could afford to buy one lol
@@englishatheart True but it's actually decided by the people at the top, the Editor-in-Chiefs of Vogue etc. who decide what to cover in the big issues aswell as the runway fashion brands whose style trickles down to department stores and fast-fashion which everyone ends up wearing. Watch 'The Devil Wears Prada' for an illustration.
though, it is important to acknowledge that often, once you donate them, someone else is putting them in the garbage for you. Lot of places are inundated with more clothes than they can sell. Obviously still good to donate because they may be useful. But it shouldn't be used to justify overconsumption.
You should only do that if your clothes are still in good condition. If you're wearing your clothes enough to wear them out- yeah, they shouldn't be donated.
amazing! congrats on the baby! so glad you aren’t showing him online cuz there’s too many horror stories from kids who grew up on social media. amazing video as always

You should do a sequel video where you craft an outfit for today based on past predictions of fashion. I love looking back at what people in the 20's, 50's etc. Thought we'd be rocking. Lol
Not gonna lie, feeling not warm (in any degree possible) is EXACTLY what i would like to feel when putting clothes. Living in Brazil, my situation is feeling like entering an oven everytime i leave home. So i am actually excited if this is some kind of new clothing technology for the future.

I love Danny talking about how cool it would be to have 3D-printed clothes custom made to your measurements. Like, my dude.... my guy. We already can do that with fabric clothes. It's called tailoring 😭😭😭
And it doesn't even leave microplastics in the water every time it's washed, or when it's thrown in a landfill! (which...it still baffles be that ppl throw clothes in a landfill unless theyre really done for and completely unuseable)
Yeah, but tailoring is a process after the fact. He's talking about having a "you size" that you can just apply to the clothes' "schematics" you 3D print/have 3D printed for you. At least, I assume that's what he's talking about.
also a new parent and felt that dissociation between babies and people so hard. it’s like you made a person, but they’re not people yet. and of course acknowledging or thinking about it at all feels mean and dehumanizing but you can’t help it. my baby’s 3 months now and he’s definitely getting more peopleish
Can definitely relate. At first the give so little feedback, no smiles no laughter no noises except for the crying. But every day they become more funny and human
From a fabric standpoint, we had fabrics made from wood for years now. Viscose is made from celullose, usually from wood or cotton. And there’s also Lyocell which follows the same recipe but with wood from eucalyptus, which is known for its cooling effect.
I am THRILLED to find out about this, it's great I'm now going to have to check every article of clothing I buy to make sure it doesn't have eucalyptus in it.
im Kenyan and some communities in our country and uganda too that make fabric from tree bark even pre colonial period it was already there, is it similar or different
i didn't really think about it, but i crochet and i see bamboo fiber yarn all over as well! it's somewhat similar to cotton and also known for being cool in temperature.
I love it when content creators mention other content creators (that usually make different types of videos) in their videos. It feels like a crossover.
I’m so glad to have seen literally all the Gregs completely respecting Danny and Laura’s decision to keep their son’s life private and off the internet. Since he arrived I literally have not seen a single Greg ask for any info other than his and Laura’s good health. Truly love this community ❤
It's so wild that Danny is simultaneously a year older than me, a father, and also a teenaged boy. Like those aren't mutually exclusive but still I'm glad little Greg is doing well, and we will continue calling him that even if you tell us his real name
I bought a shirt made out of plastic bags you get your groceries in, it feels like linen , and is so comfortable comes out of the wash and dryer fine. It’s so soft. I love it, but haven’t seen another one. I was so surprised. Now I have more money for socks, because it was cheap also.
FINALLY, Danny making some calculated moves to once and for all end the tired joke about him and Drew Gooden being the same person, by releasing some content so drastically different than anything Drew would do that nobody could ever make that mistake again.
I like how the underwear of the future are just essentially the underwear of the past lol, from back before synthetic fabrics were invented and everything was made of cotton, linen, and wool
I kid you not, I think we'd all be a whole lot better off if we pivoted away from cheap synthetic fast fashion clothing and back to durable, high-quality clothes made of not plastic. Everyone but the sweatshop owners, at least.

"I do mess with the idea of 3D printed clothing though, thats kind of sick, the idea that everything you own can fit you perfectly because its like, 3D printed, custom to your body is kinda cool" Danny, Danny thats just tailored clothing, or even just any time era before Fast Fashion
What that first greenwashed article doesn’t want you to know is that recycled clothing and custom made clothes are ALREADY A THING and have been around for as long as we have! That was normal before the dependence on fast fashion. Slow fashion and up cycling is the sustainable way of the future, not 3 printed clothes and disposable socks
When he said that his son arrived 2 weeks early, I thought it was a package, I'm only now realizing it was a baby Greg. Hoping daddy gonzalez raises his kid well!
As a someone from the Netherlands I'm happy to hear Danny talk about Dutch clogs! My uncle who was a farmer wore wooden clogs. They are apparently surprisingly warm! So screw you wooden shirt haha
@derutceldoor7410 a clog is essentially like a shoe. They've been made for your foot. How & who is stuffing their clogs with hay? Fun fact we do have socks too here. & I'm also confused about the words "used to".
it's really weird when we go from "let's stop using (insert natural thing here) because it's cheaper to make it synthetically" to "we want something natural here's a new solution to something we already had"

We appreciate Danny becoming a fashionable person to positively influence his child
As somebody literally studying fashion design, these articles always amaze me bc they entirely ignore all established academic analysis on fashion that studies what direction fashion moves in and why. Like, there are experts that study fashion forecasting and academics within fashion history that have written books on this topic, but BuzzFeed or whatever is j like... ok, but what if everything was monochrome and shiny... lol
"what if clothes that are screens" like okay but that's not fashion. i wanna know if leg of mutton sleeves are gonna come back
And what do they say?
Any books you'd recommend? This topic is fascinating
I fully expect an increase in dad jokes in these videos now, don't disappoint Danny
One fact is that paper clothes already exist. In the 1960s, paper dresses become a huge thing. It's interesting to read about.
yeah but how do you wash it? does it just melt if it starts raining?
Talking about paper clothes there were chiplote napkin pants being sold, a year or so ago.
And yes they sound as durable as they sound.
yes i know!! nteresting!

That's what I was thinking! Fast fashion is def not it, but the androidcore predictions seem so jarring and unrealistic
@@englishatheartI definitely agree that _most people_ view clothing as a status symbol. That is definitely something that applies to _most people._
I am continuously shocked at the fact people put old clothes in the garbage. Like it’s so easy to just donate them.
though, it is important to acknowledge that often, once you donate them, someone else is putting them in the garbage for you. Lot of places are inundated with more clothes than they can sell. Obviously still good to donate because they may be useful. But it shouldn't be used to justify overconsumption.
I think putting underwear into the garbage is better than donating them
I'm a sweaty person, no one is going to want to wear my old clothes.
I usually donate to goodwill or a thrift store
You should only do that if your clothes are still in good condition. If you're wearing your clothes enough to wear them out- yeah, they shouldn't be donated.
The 3D printed shoes would be breathable because there is small air gaps between the printed layers. Usually a water proof print is harder to make

I just knew there was going to be a custom pouch on his dad belt to hold all the candies for cuties..!
The onesie was pretty close, though
In all timelines, no matter where Danny walked after getting his new futuristic clothing, he always died
So poetic, truly a lesson to be learned from this. No matter where any of us walk, and no matter how cool our fit is, we all die
In the future if you walk more than five metres at a time you collapse and die because of climate change and air pollution
