    • @quanariin1290
      @quanariin1290 10 місяців тому +96

      could even be that the collection of said mana would then make it easier for further curses to be inflicted, as the foundational building blocks are already present within the body, meaning that only the most expert of hunters can manage to stay in the line of work for long.
      if this were the case, it would also have interesting implications for spellcasters cursing each other with great and terrible effects amplified by the target's affinity for mana, or surviving wizards being markedly more powerful after the fact, or even ones that inflict curses upon themselves in an attempt to jumpstart their development and in many cases dying in the process.

    • @_samtsa

    • @arthurdent6256
      @arthurdent6256 5 місяців тому +2

      This would mean that the manufactured inputs are not necessarily only inspired by nature, but by dissecting poor souls like these. It also implies that some witch hunters may become witches themselves.

    • @anonimoqualquer5503
      @anonimoqualquer5503 5 місяців тому

      @@quanariin1290 the ideia that spellcasters have a critical advantage and disavantage agaist himself is cool
      But it also mean that witch hunters are weak, considering that they have nothing in advantage against the witchs spells except the guns(and theres nothing that doenst allow the witch to use the gun)
      But that means it could be further refined with the whole "metal that hurts the bad guys" lore
      Some curses that allows you to use the spells also grands you weekness against other types of spells, curses or materials
      That could be a good internal trust and rank system(witch hunters and witchs hide or fake their markings to not expose their weak and strong points
      Hunters have magic afinity but have a hard time controlling it, still having some advantage
      it could be like a balance system for exemple
      The more curses you have the harder is to get another one, but also is more dangerous and lethal
      That also means that specific curses combinations are more or less dangerous
      For example bees for eyes can be more a advantage
      But if you get another curse like "boiling body"( you sometimes emmits steam or smoke) it could be dangerous
      Also fire n general is dangerous to the bees and you have a hard time swimming
      But if you get a curse like "Ant skin"(part of your skin turns in Tree bark) it could be usefull because you can plant a parasitic flower on
      Meaning is easier to take care of it

      Although, something I've noted myself is that part of me would think the opposite would be true to an extent. That the witch-hunters who managed to survive and completely avoid getting cursed in the first place were the ones who survived, as in this sort of dark fantasy setting where even relative novice witches can deliver life-destroying curses, the ones who survive are the ones who finish the job before their target can respond.

      For stories with quite a bit of lore and weird monsters, I recommend checking out the Zeno Clash series and tabletop game Turnip 28.
      Turnip 28 has been described as Warhammer Fantasy but if it instead became a Monty Python skit, with Napoleontic elements amongst the medieval ones. Also Hieronymus Bosch vibes.
      And Zeno Clash is a series of brawler/fighter games set in a bizarre, stone age-like world largely inhabited by equally bizarre creatures, of which few even resemble each other.
      The first two/mainline Zeno Clashgames are played as humans, though the second game allows you to kind of recruit others, human and Zeno alike, for certain fights.
      The most recent game, the prequel Clash: Artifacts of Chaos instead has you directly play as a Zeno, and he looks like if a carrot tried taking humanoid shape and then had a nail-less sore thumb with a face on it for a head.
      Definitely recommend both for the sake of the bizzarreness and the monsters.

    I like the idea of there being two types of witch hunters. The 'rabble' like Jakob, deformed and scarred by their past encounters, and those who look like one would imagine a witch hunter to look (aka Warhammer or Bloodborne kinda styled). These 'professionals are in long coats, with clean armor, covered head to toe and equipped with the best gear they can get. Comprised of those who are rich, influental, or just good enough to get the good stuff and be able to deal with witches swiftly. Or able to resist and endure their curses, either by being blessed warriors or naturally resistant.
    Or... because they are doing this for so long, that they are able to compensate and hide their afflictions. After all, with these long coats, gloves, masks and face coverings, the tall hats... There is a lot someone can hide away.

    When someone works a career for years, their bodies begin to show the weathering.
    Steel workers, miners, construction workers, blacksmiths, farmers.
    It's clever and thoughtful that a witch-hunter would begin to show the signs of the job and the 'wear and tear'.
    Would be interesting to see, a newbie witch-hunter showing up for their first hunt, shocked at some of the seasoned hunters' appearances, not yet knowing that they will begin to look just as warped one day.

    Man, i could only imagine like an open world game in the world you're creating.. Let's say you enter a bar and you see a hooded figure sitting in the corner, you speak to some of the habitants and you hear some rude remarks about this hooded figure. That he is "hideous" "a walking corpse" "a melted chicken" etc. So you then speak to him, his trinkets dangling all over him as he hides his face from you to not scare you away.. You ask some questions and slowly get to know him. Then you get a mission to actually hunt a witch and you call up Yakob, you team up and start a hunt. Slowly he tells you about himself and you really get to know him (i feel that he would be a very caring and sweet guy), and once you reach your destination, you fight a witch in this epic and terrifying raid boss battle.

    Im not a writer by any means, but a couple years ago I started writing a novel about pirates, something I am very passionate about, but stopped writing because I felt it was a waste of time and no one would ever like it. After coming in contact with monstergarden a month or so ago it made decide to go back and start writing again just for the fun of it, so thank you for inspiring me

    3 curse ideas:
    1. Immortal but in a constant state of decay and rot. Slowly they get weaker until they are a puddle of guts. Then they infect someone else and the cycle repeats for the unfortunate immortal being. The rot is gets passed down to their children but not their immortality.
    2. Any damage they do gets done to themselves. Unable to hurt anything and being used to pain they act more like human shields.
    3. They absorb the souls of the witches they kill, allowing the witches to live on inside them. The only way the can put down the witches for good is to kill themselves or slowly get twisted into something even more wicked.
    These are curses. They should act like such. Curses should harm the hunters and benefit the witches, not just make hunters look funky.

    I have a suggestion which could go well with the revolving flintlock idea. When those types of weapons fail, they can cause a chain-fire, resulting in all of the rounds firing at once, even when not in the chamber. As such, with those weapons being prominent in your world, battlehardness could be shown through missing fingers from chain-fire accidents.

    Another experimental type of gun you can use are old air gun models, they were muzzle-loaded and used giant ball-shaped metallic containers full of compressed air to propell the bullet. Alternatively, an air gun had a compressed air container for a rifle's butt. Also, does Yakob see through the bees or does he shoot his gun blindly, relying on his hearing to find a target?

Wonderful video as always!

    The revolving powder rifle honestly brings a whole new layer of horror to the universe considering they were some of the most unstable firearms in history considering chain firing was a thing they could do, a potential way this could be shown is by giving characters hand major hand injuries like missing fingers or entire hands missing

    do you think those sores he has might eventually lead him to using magic himself? I remember your magic system uses symmetrical and repeating patterns. Maybe this could be how witches propagate throughout the world, with witch hunters eventually being consumed by countless curses placed on them and becoming the things they sought to kill.

    I really think a good place to look for this sort of style would be Hunt Showdowns concept art for the monsters and hunters. A good bit too look at first is just all of the bosses they have (Butcher, Spider, Assassin, Scrapbeak, and Rotjaw) and then look at some of the more out there hunter designs. I think there is quite a bit of crossover in terms of style and tone.

  • @ottovonbismuth
    @ottovonbismuth 10 місяців тому +2

    I gotta say Yakob's new design goes super hard and I am super excited to see where you go next
    I just have one minor correction
    The firearm that Yakob wields (going off the reference image) is not a flint lock but is actually something called a match lock
    This is an earlier form of firearm where the powder is lit using an active flame, usually via a match or piece of rope, hence the name
    A flint lock firearm strikes a piece of flint against a sparking surface (usually steel) to produce sparks to light the powder
    You can see this with the design of the striker
    The one in the reference image is rather thin with a flat head, as to increase the surface area of the heat source and as it doesn't experience much stress while firing
    While a flintlock has a much more robust striker with a clamp as it experiences a lot of stress when firing and needs to hold the flint securely
    For a brief and dramatically oversimplified historical reference of when these different type of weapons were in use
    When the Malleus Maleficarum (the treatise that started the European witch trials) was first published (1487) matchlocks were a pretty recent invention
    By the time of the Salem Witch Trials (1692-93) nearly all European Armies had upgraded from matchlocks to flintlocks
    And by the time the Napoleanic wars were over the percussion cap had become the standard
    I personally like the matchlock aesthetic for Yakob anyway as it is more true to the witch trials but I just wanted to provide some clarification on termonology
