For stories with quite a bit of lore and weird monsters, I recommend checking out the Zeno Clash series and tabletop game Turnip 28. Turnip 28 has been described as Warhammer Fantasy but if it instead became a Monty Python skit, with Napoleontic elements amongst the medieval ones. Also Hieronymus Bosch vibes. Your version's actually really interesting. Makes me sad that I can't catch the streams due to time problems. Would love to see this world development in live. I was going to point out that maybe it was a human who was cursed into a bird. But maybe it isn't and it's a unfortunate chap who got cursed by a witch to have teeth in his beak and he has to pull alot of them out cause they grow too much and weighs down their head. or the teeth is apart of their anatomy.
I like the idea of there being two types of witch hunters. The 'rabble' like Jakob, deformed and scarred by their past encounters, and those who look like one would imagine a witch hunter to look (aka Warhammer or Bloodborne kinda styled). These 'professionals are in long coats, with clean armor, covered head to toe and equipped with the best gear they can get. Comprised of those who are rich, influental, or just good enough to get the good stuff and be able to deal with witches swiftly. Or able to resist and endure their curses, either by being blessed warriors or naturally resistant. Or... because they are doing this for so long, that they are able to compensate and hide their afflictions. After all, with these long coats, gloves, masks and face coverings, the tall hats... There is a lot someone can hide away. "Beware the old man in the profession where people die young."
LOVE the redesigns. When someone works a career for years, their bodies begin to show the weathering. Steel workers, miners, construction workers, blacksmiths, farmers. It's clever and thoughtful that a witch-hunter would begin to show the signs of the job and the 'wear and tear'. Would be interesting to see, a newbie witch-hunter showing up for their first hunt, shocked at some of the seasoned hunters' appearances, not yet knowing that they will begin to look just as warped one day.
A lot of people do over estimate the power of professional monster hunters, you made a very interesting and new way to show "scars", nice job thinking outside the box!
i love how you just give off totally different vibes when drawing and when showing irl stuff lmao its a perfect mix of immersive storytelling/narration and then just pure goofiness
Man I feel called out for making hot witch hunters lol. For some reason when I think of magic users it's always spellcasting, potions, rituals, etc, but never curses Watching you design your world has really inspired me with my own worldbuilding, you've made me consider things I would never think of before. Honestly your world is definitely one of the most detailed and interesting settings in any story I've seen regardless of genre, I'd love to read a book/comic or play a game or something like that set in your world. I'm keeping my hot witch hunters tho
It depends on the magic system if it is easier to cast killing magic then curses then in a fight people will defalt to that if it is easier to defend ageinst curses then fireballs people wont use curses when defending themselves. Its ok to have hot witch hunters but either give the hunters ways to defend themselves/dodge or be able to stealth kill witches From the sounds of this guy he was learning on the job and that will leave scars no matter what job you try it on
I like that a character whose entire personality is hunting and persecuting a particular group has been turned into a monster because of it. Very cool as everything you do is
As a body-horror writer, I really must say I love your gritty approach to magic systems and those who fight against those who wield said magic. I'm also just crazy jealous of your ability to sketch out your ideas like this. I've tried for my entire life to draw my imagination and it just never goes well xD
I never even thought of that: hunting witches should be super dangerous, but witch hunters never seemed like they went through a rough time in most fiction. Until now.
I really like the idea of sores from curses being fractal esque / geometric shapes, as it keeps with the theme of how thimbles and magic also work geometrically. Really cool project, and love learning new things about the monster garden world each video.
Man, i could only imagine like an open world game in the world you're creating.. Let's say you enter a bar and you see a hooded figure sitting in the corner, you speak to some of the habitants and you hear some rude remarks about this hooded figure. That he is "hideous" "a walking corpse" "a melted chicken" etc. So you then speak to him, his trinkets dangling all over him as he hides his face from you to not scare you away.. You ask some questions and slowly get to know him. Then you get a mission to actually hunt a witch and you call up Yakob, you team up and start a hunt. Slowly he tells you about himself and you really get to know him (i feel that he would be a very caring and sweet guy), and once you reach your destination, you fight a witch in this epic and terrifying raid boss battle.
this channel is a fresh breeze emits the 100 million copies of the same magical rpg worlds, its the most creative thing ive ever seen, every design is different and everything makes sence its just so good.
Your choice of going with a revolving flintlock rifle fits this perfectly, and it made me think... There's a whole lot of weird and interesting prototype firearms that never gained any popularity or traction for various reasons, but their odd designs would definitely suit this style, and could be carried along your revolving flintlock without feeling out of place. Some examples would be: The "Puckle Gun" , a mounted, manually revolving flintlock, much like your design, or the "Nock Gun" "Volley guns" , which come in many variants like the "Duckfoot Pistol", all of which were designed to fire many barrels at the same time. "Fist Guns", as you would think is a gun mounted on your fist, designed to fire when you punch something. "Cemetery Guns". This is the absolute perfect fit for your character in my mind. They were designed to sit idly within coffins to prevent graverobbing; firing when the lid is opened, but you could in theory carry one around. And lastly there are guns and melee weapon hybrids. I don't know any specific models, but I've seen swords with a pistol in the handle, or an axe mounted as a bayonet on a shotgun... So many cool concepts to explore here!
3 curse ideas: 1. Immortal but in a constant state of decay and rot. Slowly they get weaker until they are a puddle of guts. Then they infect someone else and the cycle repeats for the unfortunate immortal being. The rot is gets passed down to their children but not their immortality. 2. Any damage they do gets done to themselves. Unable to hurt anything and being used to pain they act more like human shields. 3. They absorb the souls of the witches they kill, allowing the witches to live on inside them. The only way the can put down the witches for good is to kill themselves or slowly get twisted into something even more wicked. These are curses. They should act like such. Curses should harm the hunters and benefit the witches, not just make hunters look funky.
Honestly I'm more surprise they can stand alive for this long. with each battle they go closer and closer to a destiny worst than death. they must have very strong motivations and moral will to even continue moving forward
I just downloaded the dwarf and I'm already wishing there were a Yakob print to sit with him. Your storytelling and designs are amazing. Also, great work by Cameron Bye, making the dwarf sculpt. Cheers!
you could even use this as a method of characterization, have one witch hunter who is heavily cursed because they're a "shoot first ask questions later" type of person, and have a witch hunter who is only minorly cursed from a hunt gone wrong as a rookie, since ever since that day they've been meticulous and strategic, taking a much longer time to successfully hunt a witch, but getting out with much fewer cursed party members and much fewer casualties. you could also have a band of hunters who are mostly unharmed, but have a character in that band who is INCREDIBLY cursed, and this could be because the members either use them as bait to trap the witch, or because they're the leader of the gang and are unwilling to put anyone else in unnecessary danger. so many interesting ideas sprout from this, it's awesome.
Love the dark fantasy setting and the care you put into each and every design. I have a suggestion for an aberration: Some mosquito like humanoids that such the blood and gore out of the ground of all the countless battlefields. Should fit the universe I feel like
Im not a writer by any means, but a couple years ago I started writing a novel about pirates, something I am very passionate about, but stopped writing because I felt it was a waste of time and no one would ever like it. After coming in contact with monstergarden a month or so ago it made decide to go back and start writing again just for the fun of it, so thank you for inspiring me
Another experimental type of gun you can use are old air gun models, they were muzzle-loaded and used giant ball-shaped metallic containers full of compressed air to propell the bullet. Alternatively, an air gun had a compressed air container for a rifle's butt. Also, does Yakob see through the bees or does he shoot his gun blindly, relying on his hearing to find a target?
Wow... you have a knack for originality when it comes to design. I'm way too generic when it comes to that. If you ever find yourself needing a writer for a pc game or even a board game, then hook me up. I absolutely adore the world you have built so far. It could deliver so many good stories. Sincere greetings from the Netherlands.
The beauty in your world building is amazing. Also the raw moments when looking into the past before dramatic shifts in character is amazing. It a great reminder for people who do long form outlining that changes can be good! Thank you!
I love the almost "reality" you incorporate. The fact that the supernatural aspects of your world has consequence and it is somewhat foreign but only manipulates know concepts.
You should write a short story from the perspective of a villager living regular life coming across a witch hunter and what the world looks like through both their eyes.
I love this world building project so much, every single bit feels so familiar yet so unique and alien like. I'd imagine being in a fantasy world would be like this
I like the idea that veteran witch hunter with multiple curses stacked implies the person skilled and experienced enough to have survived multiple witch encounters. If a fancy looking witch hunter with pristine leather clothes comes to your witch hut, you're probably fine. Just some fresh meat looking to make a name. But if a barely alive husk of a man with skin made of stone, a perpetual rain cloud over his head, and a hacking cough because his mouth is always filled with sand comes shambling to your door, you better run because this guy has killed a hundred witches.
The revolving powder rifle honestly brings a whole new layer of horror to the universe considering they were some of the most unstable firearms in history considering chain firing was a thing they could do, a potential way this could be shown is by giving characters hand major hand injuries like missing fingers or entire hands missing
Fun fact: a peculiarity of revolving chambers is the propention to fail in a way known as "cook off", firing all the bullets at the same time, butchering your hand in the process.
Rule of cool could definitely still play a part here. I love the idea of witch hunters gaining more disfigurements when they mess up or fail against a witch. But in this way you can also easily convey a "prodigy" witch hunter. If an experienced witch hunter has little scars or disfigurements you know they're one of the best of the best, they have some serious talent to do well enough against witches from the get go
I can never get enough of your art and the reasoning behind every design choice! the bit with the dwarf right at the end has me in tears, I've been replaying it for a while now
Another very interesting video and bits of lore, I really like your world, it itches that rough and dark sort of feeling, something that most projects seem to miss the mark with.
I think the peak of this stuff would be an open world RPG like Dread Delusion, but in this world. It's SO INTERESTING I JUST WANT TO SPEND 100 HOURS IN IT WALKING AROUND IN DRINKING IN THE LORE.
I love the idea! You can imagine how these individuals would be treated in their communities, perhaps a mixture of fear and respect. They are deformed, yes, but such transformations are also proof of their merit.
i absolutely cannot wait to see what witches look like, knowing you, youve probably come up with some elaborate idea for a makeover of the traditional witch
This is a whole new take on witch hunters, and probably the one I love the most. So much more interesting than a handsome, brooding, muscular super model in a leather outfit we are so accustomed to.
I cannot express how much I love your art style and monster design, I feel I need a while universe built in this style, games, books, movies, the whole lot!
The algorithm provides! Man I love your style, I’m an amateur 3d artist (mostly minis) and your style is so sick. Really enjoy the storytelling aspect of your process.
Your world-building art resonates with the spirit of J.R.R. Tolkien's, although he focused on history and languages, whereas your strength seems to be in the intricately interconnected, well thought, and artistically depicted elements of your world. Impressive!

I love your designs and just how much thought you put into them. I especially love the little trinkets in the third design- adding holy water bottles or torches or even candles into the mix would be interesting, kind of like the way that vampire hunters have long strings of garlic or silver crosses tied onto their bodies. Wonderful video as always!
Dude, it's finding people like you online that remind me that I have a lot of cool material to share. i'm so hesitant to really show anything because i don't think it's "perfect", but seeing how you go over the changes and self critiques you go through is really inspiring. I LOVE the aesthetic of your work and it really pushes me to practice with my own artwork, so thank you for this content! It has helped me gain a lot of inspiration!
I have a suggestion which could go well with the revolving flintlock idea. When those types of weapons fail, they can cause a chain-fire, resulting in all of the rounds firing at once, even when not in the chamber. As such, with those weapons being prominent in your world, battlehardness could be shown through missing fingers from chain-fire accidents.
Words cant even explain the amazing Vibes and feelings I get watching your videos, seeing the world come together with the incredibly interesting and intriguing Lore shown through your absolutely amazing art and Voiceover is just an absolute treat!! Love the way you show the previous designs etc. Too! Oh also, THE 3D MODEL OF THE DWARF OMG wow the end was hilarious
Dear Mr. Monstergarden, thanks to you, I started to play with the concept of DnD in my sessions and, to put it bluntly, I stole some ideas and implemented them into my world, but it makes it more alive and darker. I'm quite a creative guy, but apparently sometimes that's not enough, and you gave me a nice sandbox to play with and I'm happy to use it. I hope my "stealing" doesn't offend you, because I really enjoyed it and added a lot of my own stuff. With great respect, a little man from Poland!

I love the idea of Witch hunters in general carrying around a bunch of trinkets that are 'home remedies' against magic or curses some of which might even not be entirely useless! Or things like random non-geometric patters and stiching on their clothes. Simply because they see geometric shapes in connection with magic and the conclusion is that if regular patterns attract magic surely a chaotic one might repell it. You know, just on the offchance it works
Seriously great work. The designs of the Hunter's also serve to elevate the severity of Witches. I can't wait to see what you have in store for their design.
its such a unique experience to see a world being build step by step. Thank you for your incredibly hard work. Difficult to find passionate YTer's these days
The revolving musket is a great middle ground between flintlocks and ww1 style rifles, its perfect for a witch hunter, but it seems a little too beautiful and ornate for an average soldier I think a great alternative for them would be a single shot cartrage rifle such as the english martini-henry or the American springfield rifle. These guns did nto need a rod/ pwder to work, but shot far slower than the bolt-action rifles of WW1. Just a thought, your work is amazing btw!
My man, you created something incredible! The world you invented and the magic system ahh... It's probably the most interesting and unique I've ever seen. They should write a book about it, not kidding.

Having mobile torturing device implanted or grafted onto their body to make them fight faster in combat.
I like how the bee eyes look like a fusion of compound eyes and honeycombs.
A lot of people do over estimate the power of professional monster hunters, you made a very interesting and new way to show "scars", nice job thinking outside the box!
i love how you just give off totally different vibes when drawing and when showing irl stuff lmao
its a perfect mix of immersive storytelling/narration and then just pure goofiness
Not even a minute in and it looks sick already!
Edit: just saw the clip where you try putting the dwarf in the jar. Currently crying from laughter.
Where is that I can’t find it 😂
Omfg I’m so stupid nvm
Man I feel called out for making hot witch hunters lol. For some reason when I think of magic users it's always spellcasting, potions, rituals, etc, but never curses
Watching you design your world has really inspired me with my own worldbuilding, you've made me consider things I would never think of before.
Its ok to have hot witch hunters but either give the hunters ways to defend themselves/dodge or be able to stealth kill witches
From the sounds of this guy he was learning on the job and that will leave scars no matter what job you try it on
I like that a character whose entire personality is hunting and persecuting a particular group has been turned into a monster because of it. Very cool as everything you do is
stealth social commentary
I love how wonderfully honest this guy is, without even trying.
" i wanted to do the patreon scrolling thing, but haven't worked out how to do it."
As a body-horror writer, I really must say I love your gritty approach to magic systems and those who fight against those who wield said magic. I'm also just crazy jealous of your ability to sketch out your ideas like this. I've tried for my entire life to draw my imagination and it just never goes well xD
You're the most wholesome body horror artist I've come across
Slowly he tells you about himself and you really get to know him (i feel that he would be a very caring and sweet guy), and once you reach your destination, you fight a witch in this epic and terrifying raid boss battle.
that sounds exiting. Yakob is a sweet guy if you get to know him. I hope I can show that well with the lore videos to come.
God its so lovely that you just say "I havent figured out how to do that yet"
Really inspires me to do my projects eventhough I am not ready yet
I love the tiny detail that you tried using a mandelbrot set as a curse wound
this channel is a fresh breeze emits the 100 million copies of the same magical rpg worlds, its the most creative thing ive ever seen, every design is different and everything makes sence its just so good.
THE RETURN
This video was really funny, I loved the little cutaways and humor that got meshed in with your usual content
Some examples would be:
The "Puckle Gun" , a mounted, manually revolving flintlock, much like your design, or the "Nock Gun"
"Volley guns" , which come in many variants like the "Duckfoot Pistol", all of which were designed to fire many barrels at the same time.
3 curse ideas:
Cheers!
you could even use this as a method of characterization, have one witch hunter who is heavily cursed because they're a "shoot first ask questions later" type of person, and have a witch hunter who is only minorly cursed from a hunt gone wrong as a rookie, since ever since that day they've been meticulous and strategic, taking a much longer time to successfully hunt a witch, but getting out with much fewer cursed party members and much fewer casualties.
you could also have a band of hunters who are mostly unharmed, but have a character in that band who is INCREDIBLY cursed, and this could be because the members either use them as bait to trap the witch, or because they're the leader of the gang and are unwilling to put anyone else in unnecessary danger.
so many interesting ideas sprout from this, it's awesome.
waoh
Love the dark fantasy setting and the care you put into each and every design.
I have a suggestion for an aberration:
Some mosquito like humanoids that such the blood and gore out of the ground of all the countless battlefields. Should fit the universe I feel like
Omg 😂 they way you said “I replaced his little crossbow, for a *GUN* ”
Im not a writer by any means, but a couple years ago I started writing a novel about pirates, something I am very passionate about, but stopped writing because I felt it was a waste of time and no one would ever like it. After coming in contact with monstergarden a month or so ago it made decide to go back and start writing again just for the fun of it, so thank you for inspiring me
Good luck with your story!!
Another experimental type of gun you can use are old air gun models, they were muzzle-loaded and used giant ball-shaped metallic containers full of compressed air to propell the bullet. Alternatively, an air gun had a compressed air container for a rifle's butt. Also, does Yakob see through the bees or does he shoot his gun blindly, relying on his hearing to find a target?
he sees through the bees.
I like how as he gets more comfortable with his audience his real personality leeks through and I’m all for it
Wow... you have a knack for originality when it comes to design.
I'd imagine being in a fantasy world would be like this
The last design of sores on Jakob's back actually made me uncomfortable and gave me trypophobia alert. Amazing job!
Finally!
I've been wondering about the thought process behind their design for a long time.
If an experienced witch hunter has little scars or disfigurements you know they're one of the best of the best, they have some serious talent to do well enough against witches from the get go
You have some of the most inventive reimaginings of standard fantasy tropes that I have ever seen! It's so creative and unique!
I can never get enough of your art and the reasoning behind every design choice!
the bit with the dwarf right at the end has me in tears, I've been replaying it for a while now
lmao the jar caught me off guard, great video as always
Starting to love the crooked magic in this world. Great job
Watching you unfold your worldbuilding and story-telling is honestly so enthralling. I can't wait to see where this goes and what you do.
Holy shit I love your thought process for these things. Gonna steal this for my dnd campaign
Amazing work as always. Would really love to see what witches are like in the Monster Garden.
It reminds me of Darkest Dungeon, any Soulsborne game and Resident Evil monstrosities all together. It's amazing really.
“The rule of cool is a powerful tool” bars
The amount of thought, effort and creativity you put into your work is as always amazing and I'm loving your dark fantasy world so much
It would be really sick to have a 3d print or just full on official merch of a thimble would totally buy one
Impressive!
everytime i watch you i shiver, you are one of my favorite artists of all time. pls keep going with what you are doing
Ooooh, LOVE the scars as fractal-like patterns! that is SUCH a good detail!
u are one of the most interesting artist on yt i've seen so far , love ur work
I love watching your videos because every time I do, I get overwhelmed with inspiration to write my own stories. I play D&D, so this is actually really useful. It's like a stim shot of inspiration whenever I don't feel like writing.
the 3d model looks so well made! An awesome community for an awesome channel
4:05 the pure pleasure in his voice finding out that theirs different weapons like a flint lock but in a handgun form is so me, the guttleral noises i make like this daily 😫
I just wanna say, your work is such an inspiration to me as a fellow world-builder. Your dwarf inspired me to change some of my fantasy species to be less human, your manamorphosis inspired me to make some unique and interesting character designs. I love your work and I can't wait to see more.
This is awesome! I love the fictional world you created and would like to learn more about it.
Your channel brings me such peace. I love hearing someone be freely creative. Beautiful art and beautiful work.
Your videos are a league of their own. Can’t wait for more
That 3D model is amazing! …now we just need all the other characters from your world to complete the monster garden chess set xD
With great respect, a little man from Poland!
you are welcome to use it as inspiration as much as you like. using it for personal dnd shenanigans is great, I encourage it.
@@monlenz Glad to hear it, thanks again and looking forward to more videos!
I’m so jealous of your artistic talent! Keep up the great work!
Your creativity is infectious
love seeing how jakob turned out
That 3d printed dwarf.
Omg it's like living in a Dream World.
You got a talent to draw and conceptualize, the other person is talented in 3d sculpting and making real models, and also in love with your concepts, and sends a Gift to you.
World of Creativity, Love and Gifts.
"Yakob having literal bees for eyes."
Monster garden: "nah, not weird enough"
great design tho, keep up the fancy work!
You should make the curse video hype us up for an eventual witch video.
This is amazing. You are so inspiring with the way you manage to squeeze the lore of the world into every little design you come up with. Love it
My man, you created something incredible! The world you invented and the magic system ahh... It's probably the most interesting and unique I've ever seen. They should write a book about it, not kidding.
When i saw this come up i screamed "Yes!" And all my dogs and horses looked at me weird
I love the way you tried to get the dwarf inside the jar, he is like a bug that needs to be shaken around and examined, so cool to see the design process like this!
