Also for people who are saying this isnt a "mammal" you are right it really isnt its just the closest RealWorld equivalent i could find to describe the thing, it has hair, its warm-blooded, Has a spine and produces milk to feed its bebes. of course, everything besides that isnt mammal because its a fantasy creature that doesnt actually exists and it being real world accurate isn't at all one of my main concerns when designing creatures, I design them with the intent of having fun, and just slap random traits that i think are cool together.
Hold up, but you are right. If it produces milk it's a mammal. That's the literal definition of a mammal, from "mamma", meaning "breast" in latin, due to "breast feeding". Platypus and echidnas lay eggs and don't even have nipples (they secret milk from their pores), yet they are still mammals.
as for the too-big size concern, my first guess would be something like they have a special bone/gland/structure near their spine that gives them slight "negative weight" like a swim bladder, fitting with the sea worm inspiration. It would make them less susceptible to tunnel collapses if they tunnel over another dust hog's tunnel, maybe they can toggle it to avoid being carried away by predators and when the big ones die they immediately collapse into crushed guts. Alternatively maybe, like lobsters, they live indefinitely until killed but just never get that big in nature but the tamed ones get braces integrated into them, would fit with the modification theme especially considering how painful it would probably be; brings to mind the bone-elongation thing from Gataca. Alternatively alternatively big bug be bcool
Weirdly, this might my favourite design yet, the image and idea of slugs digging trenches or being used as TBMs is strangely appealing. I mean, sure they're useful militarily but just imagine all the other civilian uses, it really makes them and the world feel more real/alive.
I love this creepy lil weirdo, absolutely adore it when mammals evolve to be bug/invertebrate like, or the other way around, and love it when people make creature designs that use magic :D
Just give the big ones a thicker exoskeleton that branches into the inside to hold their weight, similar to a turtle, to support all the weight. The outside doesn't need to be hard, you can make it so the layer just sits under the fat. I know it would make them less of one sole "species", but I feel like a change in size so big would justify different adaptations for a different "breed".
man you could have mentioned you made the sickest model in that kickstarter my dude... If only it was a little cheaper, or availible seperately or something, i'd love to paint that one!
I now want nothing more than a gritty co-op shooter set in the Rust and Trenches universe where you must defend recharging mega-sluppies or deploy tactical trench digging sluppies in preparation for an onslaught attack. Like Deep Rock Galactic, but with elements of trench warfare, pre-battle strategizing and super gross bug based healing systems.
It’s like a manatee beached itself but kept going. Also they must have some sort of fortifying magic to prevent their tunnels from collapsing too quickly. Maybe they can use that on themselves to keep their flesh from collapsing?
All I know about Turnip28 is the session Alfabusa played on his channel. It looked weird as fuck, but cool. I'm glad you got commissioned to design a mini, dude!
Only idea I'd have is changing the evolutionary atrophying of the inflating mana intake, to be more like with pigs vs feral hogs. The natural mana intake never develops fully due to not being needed, but escaped offspring could be an invasive species in areas they're not from, possibly causing havoc just like real world feral hogs do.
A very weird but unique creature that is sum up to a bug-mammal but I wonder if there are any dragons or creatures with the title of dragon in our world ?
Oh c'mon. Don't just say rule of cool. You can probably come up with gazillions of cool ways to explain how they can become that big without being crushed under their weight. Seriously though. They don't look bigger than the largest dinosaur.

I hope I'm in the majority that feel that you don't need to justify Fantasy ideas. Do not get mired down in their misunderstanding of the genre.
Sluppies, the Platapus of monstergarden

Surprisingly bad jokes for someone in spellcasting distance!

Verus ain’t ready for the sluppining that Ram will provide
verus cant handle rams sluppies

Also RAIN WORLD FANS, ASSEMBLE (IMAGINE THAT THING AS A SCUG CAMPAIGN)
Ough they are delightful. Im obsessed. Also love that "The rule of cool" being used here is just to justify why slug can be big 10/10
THE GOOBA!! shoutout to this fucking thing
I LOVE SLUPPIES SO MUCH !! very cute, very charming.
I knew that dragon looked oddly familiar
These are so damn weird, and it's amazing
This is such a sick idea for a creature design!
I NEED a sluppie. Also, these have great design and creativity and such. Keep it up!
Rainworld wishes it had slug dogs this cool.

UNFATHOMABLE CROSSOVER! THE TURNIP OF TWENTÏE-AND-EIGHTHEETH SHALL THRIVE
I would love more videos on magic-using organisms. Also we all know that the laws of gravity can be ignored in creature design
I saw your design work for the new dragon on the Turnip 28 kickstarter, didnt realise I was already subbed to the artist behind it. Ver cool work
These are so cuuuuute!
That inverting nostril is like the worst cross between a proboscis worm and a star-nosed mole
This cursed nails reference 💀
this is awesone
I demand all the sluppies you can ste- I mean borrow
The reference images are going to give me nightmares tonight.

Ain't nobody gonna match the sluppies freak
Never knew I could grow to love a worm so much.

Looks amazing! Love the lore and the impact on the world it has once domesticated!
Absolutely jumpacared by the overgrown nails 😢
man you could have mentioned you made the sickest model in that kickstarter my dude... If only it was a little cheaper, or availible seperately or something, i'd love to paint that one!
WHAT A WONDERFUL DAY
This feels pretty all tomorrows. Is there a civilization that designed them, the healing bugs, the ear fungus and dwarves?
Sluppie plushie when̈!!!
New video ? Guess I drop everything I'm doing right now
I love Turnip28. Glory to the root!!!!
Silly and delightful. I need a sluppy irl.

this thing is both mildly creepy and oddly cute

This thing beeing a mammal is the information that i'm having the most difficulty of accepting
Rust and Trenches would be an awesome miniature wargame
Where can these be adopted?
Love your stuff it's amazing
Bro really hit us with the off brand goku shushing meme 4:34
Haven’t seen the video yet but I know it will be a banger
Hexbugs, isopods, and rotten toenails?! Why, this video was made for me!
It’s like a manatee beached itself but kept going. Also they must have some sort of fortifying magic to prevent their tunnels from collapsing too quickly. Maybe they can use that on themselves to keep their flesh from collapsing?

what a great game mechanic idea man ! yknow id love to do some environment art for the crazy sketch at 4:13
Like a damn hexbug
oh fuck yeah

Comment for the algorithm.

Reminds me of the worm handlers and their worms from Nausicaa
