@@The_Football_Scout "One of the really good GMs" -- Jury still out, lets see how he handles the first round pick and Justin Fields. Then we can state how good he is.
Our new Defensive coordinator knows Ryan Bates. He was a defensive line coach for the Bills. So I am sure Poles asked Eric Washington if Ryan Bates was a good enough to bring into our organisation as a starting center!! Hell that's something that I would do....
Bates is flexible as a sub and a temporary starter in case they don't fill the need. He's an upgrade from Whithair or the Patrick falling flat on his face while also being unable to snap the ball.
I think Poles wants him at right guard. I think they still want a center in the draft but this gives them an option if the board doesnt fall how they'd like
@@patron40silverClaypool has immense talent but hasn't matured enough to be a reliable #2 receiver in the league yet. Poles tried to acquire Bates two years ago but the Bills matched Chicago's offer sheet. He offers great depth and versatility to our line.
As long as he doesn’t end up on his ass every play or doesn’t block his own teammate it’s an upgrade. Who do u think Is better at center him or Shelton
The BEST thing about these clips that I like about Bates, is that I HAD TO LOOK FOR HIM! VERSATILITY!!! And at 6'4"!!! and 320!!!!, he's a monster at C. If Nate Davis wakes the fuck up, Bates at C is just going to be a STRENGTH of our offensive line.
A fifth round for a solid borderline starter OL is acceptable. Besides Poles has liked this guy for a while. They tried to sign him 2 years ago but Buffalo matched their offer.
Leave the man at guard where he excels at. Imagine him and Wright on the right side crushing ish. Let him sit and learn this yr and start him at right guard in 25.
I think he’ll be competing for starting rg position with Nate Davis. Davis looked really half assed most of the time last year and it was probably bc he had a lot of personal issues but I think bate’s will ultimately be depth for all 3 interior spots. Great trade imo
He is a depth piece. Watched him after Poles tried to sign him away from Buffalo. Not impressed. He is a back up at best. Good add for a 5th rounder as a 5th rounder lacks the experience. Cheaply done - a good move - but he is a back up only.
i would like to grab JPJ as well just don't think things will align. The 9th pick is too high to be selecting him after 24th he'll be gone. But do you really trade down from the 9th pick to grab him and pass on OTs and Edges that could also help us?
He's a plug - not the answer. He's not the answer anymore than Lucas Patrick was. The Bears need to invest in youth to learn behind Bates. There's almost no chance the Bears could land JPJ in the draft - but there are a couple of other quality Centers that may be available day 2 (Round.3)
and whats funny is the bills just cut there all pro center it looks to me ryan poles got fleeced they cut there all pro center so dont u think they would keep the backup center swing guard so that means they was gonna cut him anyway but poles couldnt wait so now u have a all pro center out there now and u got this guy to be ur center so now u have to go get the bills all pro center there is ur center right there that they been looking for for about 10 years there it is now do the right thing and go get him u went and got that dude that everybody still has questions about now go get the all pro and shut everybody the hell up but the bills fleeced him to fareal or they fleeced they self because they could have told the bears u know our all pro center is available but obviously they didnt because we dont have him and if poles called the bills and didnt ask them who was available on ur team or is anybody else avallable is a red falg on poles and he didnt do that because as u see dude got let go
I agree with a lot of you on here. This is a backup piece on the line for the Bears. I’m actually surprised he gave a pick away for him. I know Poles acts like the offensive line whisperer, but if you’re going to build the offensive line, you need battle tested veterans. Offensive linemen that are good don’t usually just get let go. This is just my opinion so who knows until we see him out there.
The guy's been in the league for 5 years. I'm not sure why The Football Scout is talking about him as if he's a young development prospect. He's a career backup who got called upon to start for one season in 2022 and then barely played last year. Hoping he'll become a top 10 center seems a stretch.
Nate Davis is just fine Chicago was 4 weeks behind cutting Cohen he got Davis injured because he wouldn’t block he got Fields destroyed , he fell on Davis ankle
Glad we didn't sign him when we had the chance. If Bates starts at C your boy Caleb is doomed before hes drafted. Dude your delusional. Look at Poles track record at signing lineman. THEY ALL SUCK. Leatherwood, feeney, Patrick... all bad. I dont trust this amd Bates looks stiff and scared. Im good.
Like Velus Jones an the rest of that 2022 receivers group. Nate Davis theirs a charm. TN couldn't get him out of town fast enough. Ahh but wait that elite 5th round left tackle Jones rated 26th best left tackle in the league in pass pro. Don't worry Bates played 172 snaps at center in the last 2 yrs so he's not tired of playing there. The Bears way!
