TL;DR - Great game, good remake, I prefer the original. I hope at least some of you actually watched the video before hitting dislike 💙 If you'd like to see more of my content, here's the Critical Nobody playlist - bit.ly/2M3r65U
One thing I really related admired about OG Leon was his ability to make jokes in the face of death. I didn't have social media at that time (thankfully) so my views on him were not influenced by anything and were my own. I compared Leon as a MC to the MCs of previous games I played like Prince of Persia and God of War. One has the power to control time and the other is a fucking god. Unlike them, Leon was a normal human being but the enemies he had to fight were not. One of the aspects I find most appealing about his character is his ability to maintain a sense of humor and crack jokes, even when faced with the most gruesome and monstrous creatures. It's almost surreal to witness a normal human being like Leon boldly stand his ground and use witty remarks in the face of these merciless monsters who are clearly bent on domination and fear. Leon's quick wit send a powerful message - that he refuses to be cowed by the horrors that surround him. It's as if he's asserting his own strength and resilience in the face of adversity, letting these creatures know that he won't be easily intimidated. This aspect of his character is not just admirable, but it also adds a layer of complexity to his persona. By responding to terror with humor, Leon seems to be not only defying the monsters, but also coping with the surreal and nightmarish situation he's thrust into. In a way, Leon's humorous demeanor becomes a coping mechanism, a way for him to retain his sanity amidst the chaos. It's as if he's telling both himself and the monsters that he won't let fear dictate his actions. This unique trait not only showcases his mental fortitude, but also highlights his ability to find a glimmer of humanity and light even in the darkest of situations. I fucking love Leon's skill for cracking jokes in the face of death. It really shows off his resilience, determination, and strength of character, making him an absolute badass
I remember talking with several of my friends about in Leon when the original came out. Leon being brave in the face of terror kind of encouraged me to do the same. His attitude tells the player, "This is gonna be scary, but you can do this..."
I didn't realise how much I liked Leon until now, thank you. I also really liked how he let Ashley down easy at the ending cutscene, he's a badass with class.
To be honest: while I appreciate that joking manner of Leon’s more nowadays, it was my least favorite aspect about him initially. The way he is and plays in the remake of 4 was my original ideal version of leon and the game. That being said-it’s hard for me to decide if I like the original better because things are so much grimier as an adult that joking leon is a nice escape from that or if I like more down to earth leon since it makes him more relatable in such a situation. Either way, we have 2 versions of RE4 and that’s freaking fantastic.
@@Mark-bn5ek In OG RE4, you can have her wait in spots to keep her out of harm's way. I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do that here. Especially for players who are familiar with the layout of the levels
@Daman yes because running to the ganados is clearly much better.. The OG4 required you to position her and use your brain on spots ganados would Be agro on leon more. Remake its a 50/50 Ashley runs around like an idiot and into the ganados or actually stays behind leon for that bit.
Original RE4 was something that completely changed my mindset of what i was supposed to be expecting of 3rd person shooters at the time or even all AAA titles. The combat, graphics, animations, qtc and etc. This game pioneered so many things’s that are being exploited up to this date.
Yeah, the original was one of those rare lighting in a bottle game changers for the gaming industry at whole. Can't say the same for the remake, even if it is good.
@@Gruntvc The remake doesn’t feel like it is trying to be a game changer. It just feels like a game that respects where it came from and tries to give its own interpretation of the original story without trying to replace it. I like that. I can still play the original any time I want (With the HD texture mod it is basically perfect), and play this for the fun of it.
@@Odinsday which is why its so divisive and why re1 remake is generally held in high regard because it was the only remake to stay true to the original while enhancing the experience while these past 3 remakes have been pretty heavily detached from the original for the sake of “modern gameplay.”
THANK YOU. finally someone points out Ashley wasn't bad at all in the original, and i 100% agree with you about the stagger. The stagger on hardcore and professional is fucking ridiculous.
@@ridethelightning1511 You had the option to have her stay behind and hidden in most areas with enemies in the original. Modern Ashley will just get in your way. Both versions have flaws we can't ignore.
They're kinda doing it for the first 3 games tho. Also do you think that they'll keep on porting the original on the newer consoles from now on? I wouldn't bet on that. These remakes are also called just RE2,3,4 with no "Remake" subtitle or anything, so keep that in mind.

I hate modern games that require us to pay more for more content. Why can’t games be like they used to be, buy one game that is complete working base game with extra contents all under one purchase. But no, now everything goes to paid DLCs.
Well, because they started doing that nonsense and gamers said they hated it and yet bought the shit anyway. I still remember what a big gigantic clusterfuck it was when TF2 got hats.
I mean, Mercenaries is free, along with all characters and special weapons The only thing you need to pay is some skins, and the Separate Ways, which costed a lot to be produced
Honestly this is the most accurate and understandable take on the remake vs the original. I really appreciate your takes on the gaming industry in all of your videos. Im not always looking for someone to align perfectly with my own opinion but your opinions just make sense so much of the time.
iirc, all the charm drops are seed-based, so you can look through a table and figure out which ones will drop when, based on the first few you pull. It's probably built this way to prevent save-scumming for a guaranteed Striker charm.

The white paint telling you where to go and what to do, the c4 with big red lasers and beeping, the game just has too many mechanics that handhold the player. Makes the c4 traps useless
As someone who can beat the original on Professional and not die once or only get hit a handful of times, this game is very much not in your favor when it comes to the combat. I enjoy the stagger and kick mechanic a lot so to see it get nerfed so much really puts a small but deep dent in the experience when playing harder difficulties. But overall still fun to play
I agree that the higher difficulties are unbalanced The Capcom intended you(the player) to play on standard. However, as a big Dark Souls fan, I enjoyed the harder difficulties regardless.
@@TheNether333 Yeeah I am a soulsbourne fan through and through, and when I told my friends that Re 4 on the higher difficulties is dogshit, is because I mean in from a place where I played the best hard games, where soulsbourne games are difficult, but really fair, and well balanced all things considered. Re 4 on hardcore and above is just not fund and loads of bs.
@@desfefe The hardcore could be bs sometimes, but I it was never the game's fault. I just had to be more tactical. Professional is not meant to be played without bonus items.
Honestly, its a good thing. Being able to stagger and kick so easily made the original game too easy. It also made it so that running out of ammo, basically never happened because you can kill 10+ enemies with like 4 bullets. No wonder so many people can play the original on the highest difficulty without ever dying. The new game is actually forcing the player to prioritize shooting their gun and conserving ammo. The stagger kick is basically a random reward at the higher difficulties.
@@reredrumuoy to be honest, I’ve gotten better at the game, and I have since prioritized perfect parries in order to kick, so I’m stingy with ammo and it’s easier. Leon’s kick is my favorite both OG and remake so I have to use it as often as I can
That is how it should be though. You should actually be forced to use ammo and have to worry about conserving ammo, especially on the higher difficulties. Stagger kick was way too effective in the original, being able to kill a bunch of enemies without shooting hardly any bullets, that shouldn't be an easy thing to do on higher difficulty settings.
@@reredrumuoyits just a lousy excuse for a harder challenge to do, being punished for hitting your shots on bullet sponge enemies is ridiculous. OG re4 you were still encouraged to do Kicks and knifes over full on blasting nonstop but this is an action game. not Re2 or 1, the constant melees made og re4 so much fun and the remake just taking that away in higher difficulties really ruins that charm that the original re4 had. Call it a skill issue or whatever but i dont want to play assisted mode or standard for more reliable stuns, I've always played professional on re4 og and i started both 4 remake and New separate ways on hardened and beat it again on Professional. Its just bad game design on how the enemies are built when this video also said how easily leon gets staggered

The first time I played the remake, I immediately used the tactic 'fake run' only to realise it didn't work anymore,😂 And yeah I agree with Ashley being not glued to you, I had lots of game over just by trying to save her
You know, other than the sections where you were separated from her I never had much difficulty keeping her safe. The game only tells you this once, but tight formation is for evading enemies while running away. If you use it in combat she's gonna catch a lot of collateral from all the attacks coming at you. Loose formation is best for combat, then use a little situational awareness. She usually backs away from you, so if you're facing the bad guys she'll stay behind and you form the line of defense. This also helps her avoid attacks as she'll run away from enemies instead of staying behind you in damage range
@@maxmfpayne on harder difficulty number of enemies are greater and they come from a lot of direction, when loose formation is used she is vulnerable to be kidnapped while moving around needs her to be closed, forcing you to keep moving and use hit and run, the issue is staggering chance make handgun mostly useless during crowd fight (tmp, flash, Shotgun useful) and if you try to stand your ground, you need to pay attention to Ashley, and as mentioned, it's harder to keep a lookout since she's not immediately move towards you and stand behind you
@@aumialumi I'm playing on hardcore but I don't have much desire to play on professional if I'm honest. The challenge on hardcore feels like a decent balance for me, so I can't speak for professional difficulty, I should have mentioned that before. I see what you're saying, I usually just shoot at multiple heads in the group to increase my chance of stunning without killing them so I can kick for crowd control when using the pistol. I am using the dlc pistol though, which I believe does slightly less damage. If they get too close it's shotgun time. I don't have enough experience with the original to compare them though, as I've only played a bit of it so far.
@asdfqwerty420 to be fair, professional is quite hard, you either run like hell or run out of ammo, my point is the gameplay has flaw, which is that it's not design to fight hordes of enemy IMO. Regardless, it's a great game & it appeals to new players rather than old school re fan, most of them at least
@@aumialumi I can agree with that sentiment. Personally, I love it so much, even when it feels a bit unfair (stun locking) because it works with the vibe for me. I get why people criticize it though, not everyone is gonna look the other way when bullshit occurs just because the setting contextualizes the bullshit. I appreciate it for what it is, and for getting me to play through the older re games too starting with 4.
Great review, man. A lot of great and valid points raised. I still don't understand how you keep getting pushback on micro-transactions of all things. Defending a corporation for mtx is like thanking someone for charging you for a climbing rope after they had thrown you down the well themselves 🤦♂️ the gullibility is baffling.
I think the best thing about the remake is that if you don't like it as much you can easily go back and play the original. I wish more games were preserved like OG RE4.
Really? I didn't think Capcom did a very good job of the HD remaster of RE4, unlike that of REmake 1 (both GCN / similar period), which had really nice polish. Main factor for me was the updated control option. Maybe on PC some fans have done a better job, I heard of 'proper' remasters like this. I guess the devs preferred REmake 1, like me 😁 I think RE4 is similar to the REmake in that it feels great at causal level, and the more you play, the more it feels like an unfinished game. Moreso the remake if I'm to be honest...
@@travistreadway3180 fair enough. I sit at a desk most of my week, so when chilling in my own time I prefer the sofa. PC seems to give a lot of options, so probably good for those less casual than me 👍🏼
20:30 Thank god someone said it! I absolutely adore the new voice for the merchant, but god did it become so grating as he talked on and on. I feel like newer games think dead air makes the game too "video gamey" like they want characters to feel real so they pumped them with voice lines. I get it, an NPC standing around only speaking when you select something is "unrealistic" but its sure isn't immersive having the other side of the coin. Love the video overall, and I share practically every sentiment! Quality stuff, dude.
I would say it's like they took the Duke from Ethan's story and tried to pour some of that into the Merchant, who was never really that kind of talky smarmy guy. So it's like a weird mash of Merchant/Duke who just never shuts up
Merchant's voice seemed weird to me, more London / cockney than pirate, like the original (and like the shooting range suggests). Feels like the localisation team took liberties, or at least made calls that some random fan (me) doesn't necessarily agree with. Hey ho.
@@Hugsloth No, they didn't put the Duke's backstory here in the remake merchant. Not once does Leon interact nor banter with him, nor does the merchant explain how he's this pirate travelling around the world. The merchant simply is a game feature, your typical store owner in video games. Nothing more and nothing less
Nu friend, Just because a new game makes a character talk more, that doesn't necessarily mean they're making it realistic. Is it realistic that the merchant repeats his line every time you see him? Is it realistic that the merchant can't shut up every time you're buying something? The devs simply added more lines to the merchant to make him stand out and offer something new. And it's not like newer games have silent NPCs or merchants. Take Elden Ring for example, most of the NPCs there barely talk and that includes the merchants.
TBH I feel like trying to claim either game is better than the other is kind of missing the point, at least from my experience. There seems to be a trend of RE players thinking that remakes have to "replace" the original just because the first game had that lightning in a bottle of a remake that did so. The RE Engine series has never quite been that sort of series for me, moreso a sort of modern "remix" of the originals, especially prevalent when you start in different places and travel the map differently in RE4R. That doesn't excuse every choice they've made, RE3R is still getting hell, but you can see in a lot of cases how they wanted to adapt the story rather than just do it all again. RE4's a different case because I not only got to play the original last year, but others are also able to do so. RE4 Classic is a widely available game, meaning that the importance in comparison doesn't feel as strong of a need like RE2 and 3 does. I have to emulate those games because the originals aren't available on my platforms. RE4 is just ... there. After playing RE4R I straight up went back to the original just to get the different vibe. Both games are great and they both deserve love to this day.
@@WSendam RE1 is different because that was actually remade by the original creator who set out to make what they felt was their actual vision without limitations, kinda hits different when the people creating the remakes aren’t the same as those who created the original especially when they have a completely different vision, style and exist in a completely different era
@@WSendam I mean, let's be real. It's not hard to replace RE1 and improve upon it in every way. Also I've still seen people claim the Dead Space remake "ruined" the original. Like if you want everything to be exactly the same just okay the original.
@@prl4122 Not to mention the first REmake being only 6 years and one console generation apart from the OG. It was a much more impressive leap in that context.
Well said. It annoys me when certain people act like an older game is outdated and irrelevant once it’s remade. The Resident Evil fandom in particular has a few too many people with that mindset.
Yeah, I agree with this. I always took it as "hey, you like RE4? Here's a new game that's like RE4". If someone dislikes the remake on the basis of thinking the original shouldn't have been remade, its not my place to tell you you're wrong, but I do think you're missing out. I enjoyed both games, even if I think there's some things the original did better and vice versa.
yeah after playing the original I felt like I got to the ramon fight way too quickly in the remake, with the absence of so many castle sections and the conversations with him to build his character and make his transformation more impactful
In the remake, by the time I finished the castle I was done with it. The cuts they made took away a lot of variety that broke the game up, whether you liked the cut parts or not. By the time I got to the island I was too bored to continue going through the same repetitive mob wave section after mob wave section. A side from the odd mine cart section it was very straight forward wash and repeat.
Even with the new back tracking with boat feature it still feels linear even the pacing feels off and you get no real creative freedom when play you can't shoot through doors and you can't kill enemies in a fun way it's not satisfying at all.
yeah I felt the same by the time I got to the castle lol, specifically the area before the two garradors. Stuck with it and by the time I finished it, I liked it more but man... idk. The higher amount of backtracking for side stuff felt pretty lame too. Having to speedrun through the game and skipping like 50% of the content for an S+ sounded so lame I didn't even bother trying professional.
@@keonboonehell yeah I have more than 50 hours in this game but I only played pro for s rank purposes and I have to admit it was so annoying bc of lots of reasons 1) the enemies are bullet spongy. 2) Leon having such a slow recovery animation I mean i can bear it in low difficulties but in hard core or pro it straight up kills you bc enemies don't wait hit u and you can get hit multiple times at one moment. 3) the weapon upgrades being so expensive than original and being even more expensive in pro mode makes things more harder for u especially if u are trying s+ r rank bc you aren't Gonna spend your whole time in killing everyone to get money or will try to get every single treasure. I know u can use bonus weapon and it makes game lot easier but for me it is no fun to use a single weapon for the rest of the game.
After playing the remake and being a die hard fan of the original i can say this, the game is not a masterpiece. Yes it improves on some aspects like combat, inventory in some cases (tho i think the extra knife system is stupid) and some of the weapons. But ya there is alot that i disliked as well like how they changed salazar and sadlers motivation and character, Ada,Luese,Ashly (tho ashly is not too bad tho the breathing is annoying), The removal of banter using the phone calls, Stages feel lack luster sometimes (the castel epically). The over use of a dark filter, like most times environment is a bit too dark. And finally the lack of the flirty dialogue and lack of revealing outfit. While i do think that its a fun game it dose lack the personality the original had.
@@zarafex-0923bro, there is no way an assassin is going to fight in an evening dress and high heels. Her new outfit is more believable for the job she is doing and is loyal to her original design
@@アギレラダヤナ right the practical argument. In the original that was part of the fun actually. That she was skilled enough to fight with no issues while she wore that dress. That and her flirty nature and showing that she deeply cared about leon. In this one she comes off as condescending rather then likeable.
I will admit, I agree with the issue with stagger. Which is why I on my hardcore run I got rid of the SG and made the switch to the red9 then the blacktail asap. Stagger is tied to damage now. If your handgun doesn't do enough dmg, ganado will walk right through bullets. Once I made the switch and beefed up my fire power, the handguns felt reliable again.
The exclusive upgrade on the SR along with the laser sight, easy best pistol in the game. It will crit A LOT after you max it out. I played an entire NG+ with it maxed, that upgrade makes a world of difference.
Resident Evil 4, as well as the old games, were not supposed to be taken seriously because they parodied American B-movies. The current ones, as well as the remakes, try to give seriousness to a plot that from the beginning had absurd things like a giant crocodile, an evil ppanta, a giant robotic statue or that one of its antagonists wears sunglasses all the time. I think the best of the remake is Luis Sera and Ashley
I thoroughly enjoyed the remake and would heartily recommend it to anyone, but yeah, the original is just one of those timeless classics like Silent Hill 2 or Majora’s Mask that perfectly encapsulates its era. Just an undefeatable, legendary game - no matter how good the remake is it can’t beat the legacy.
I honestly don’t even remember the new ones soundtrack but oddly enough they did an AMAZING job on the mercenaries remixes but what’s funny it’s Capcom hasn’t released these tracks or put them out anywhere 🤷♂️ when they’re legit better than the main game
It's good, but definitely doesn't replace the original. This Reimagining will not have the same impact RE4 2005 had on the gaming industry as a whole too. From RE4 alone we got: Dead Space, Gears of War, and Uncharted Drake's Fortune. Can't say the same for RE4 2023. Wish Capcom would give RE a break and bring back a single player focused Dino Crisis game. I'm starving to death for a great single player focused Dino game...
Reimaginings like this one and the RE2 and 3 ones are super pointless. Why would you change the f out of a fine story and characters instead of preserving it and just updating the gameplay and graphics? Like seriously who the hell goes like "i love this game but i want you to change everything about it". ??? Plus RE4 really didn't need any kind of remake.
A remake, by default, cannot be as revolutionary as the original. Common sense. I bet you think you're smart by pointing out the obvious, fucking dork.
@@AndreiCatalin42069 To be fair, the original is pretty dated and flawed that these remakes do a decent job catering newer audiences into the franchise. I mean RE2 Remake was how I fell in love with the franchise and I tried RE4 OG out and loved it… although there were so many things that were in dire need of fixing. Also the REmakes aren’t necessarily “reimaginings” because they aren’t fully changing the story and canon. The FF7 Remake is a “reimagining” because story and characters that are in the Remake did not exist in the Original 97 version
I'm also kinda tired of RE remakes. I would like to have a Resident Evil game that have a story about Hunk and alpha team where u get to play as Hunk or somebody else in his team. Wouldnt that be great
Your review is perfect, exactly how i would summed up playing both OG and the remake as a whole, both have their pros and cons but its overall fun and enjoyable to play...and the best part is both are available in every platform unlike the previous OG trilogy which i hope will be added someday besides being limited as a PS1 game
RE4R is not available on Xbox One, I don't entirely blame them but just figured I'd add that. You can play the OG Trilogy on PC using source ports, the OG PC ports are abandonware at this point and run on the most potato of potatoes. I keep them on my flashdrive, all I need to do is plug in my flashdrive and they play on any computer without a need to do any installation. I should add I own the OG trilogy physical PC copies, before anyone calls me a pirate. I'm really hoping they do a solid Code Veronica remake next, RE5 still plays very well as far as I am concerned. If they do RE5 remake, I really hope it doesn't land until the next console generation at earliest, otherwise RE5 is still in great shape imo. To be completely honest I'd be much more interested in an RE0 and RE1 refresh before RE5. I don't think it needs a complete remake, but if they do, it would be cool to allow them to play with both fixed camera angles, and in 1st/3rd person. If you could switch between that, it would be really cool. If it is fixed camera angles, they can use pre rendered graphics, I really hope it looks photo realistic and has maximum brutality.

Capcom having micro transactions in RE4 Remake isn’t something they decided to start implementing with this game. They had already done the exact same thing with Devil May Cry 4 and 5. In both 4 and 5, you could purchase Red Orbs/Proud Souls with real money. You could also bypass the unlock conditions for the super versions of characters by paying for them as well. Don’t even get me started on the “DLC” Devil Breakers and Devil Arm.
I've seen people dismiss my complaints on Discord by pointing this out, but I've never been a fan of accepting that something being normalized means it's okay.
Agree with exactly what you said in regards to the microtransaction part. Cheat codes used to be amazing back in the day growing up where i was only allowed a short amount of time to play games each week, as to let me play with the silly stuff but not grind for it, because i personally didnt mind or care about the loss of gaining acheivments, i just wanted to play. The fact that most people nowadays dont even realize thata how it used to be and defend shitty practice that has littered the industry is a shame.
No one can just like something or have a favorite anymore- it's gotta be a masterpiece. Everything is a goddamn masterpiece now. No nuance left in our culture.
I agree with most of your points laid out here, especially the Ada Wong performance. As someone who's sworn by Capcom games since I was 10, I *do* find the practice of microtransactions scummy, and to see my favorite company from childhood go down that Call of Duty road since 2010 is a stab in my heart. As a game dev myself, hiding extra content behind paywalls is just slapping the players around with a rotten fish; if devs wanna do something like that, then give them a personalized code to download the content for free after completing the game once.
I'm really tired of the idea of soft rebooting the old Resident Evil games and calling them “Remakes” just like the Resident Evil 2 and 3 and 4 soft reboot

@@guyc1479 The remake is easier than the original game lol. You've either never played it or haven't in a really long time if you think that every enemy can be "Cheesed". I actually play games on higher difficulties and for more than one playthough, unlike you clearly.
Couldn’t agree more! Always a pleasure watching your honest views with supporting information. (“Splinter cell, this is not.” And there it is…haha!) Masterpiece in 2005: A game so good that every mechanic is uber-polished and the gameplay is so ahead of its time that it inspired ton of other amazing games like Dead Space, Gears of War etc. A trend-setter. Masterpiece since 2010s: Everything has to be realistic and follows trends. Not to mention the fact that most will ignore any shady business practices, because people will defend anything. RE4R is fun, and I had a good time as an OG fan. I like the remake as a supplement to the OG. At the end of the day, I’m glad we’ve two versions of this game that people can enjoy. P.S. The word: “masterpiece” needs to redefined if every game will be called one - remake or not.
It is good, but none of these recent remakes have recaptured what made RE1 Remake 2002 so good. At best, they stand along side the original. Not RE3 2020 though. And yes, Capcom is definitely following trends rather than setting them now. What a shame...
This game is yet another fine game on it's own, but also another pointless reimagination that changes the f out of everything that was fine, just like the last two ones. RE4 didn't really need a faithful remake either tbh, it didn't need a remake at all. Capcom is now just soft rebooting the whole series for no good reason. I guess the current devs might have something against the way the OG games were for some reason.
I was waiting for this review and it didn’t disappoint valid criticism and a balanced review in general.other criticisms I have is that the hitboxes are really bad at times and the lack of I frames allow you too get combod to death also Leon’s feels more clunky while moving but he can move in every direction so I guess it’s a trade off

@deadeye anims yeah most people are shills and sheep. So it's not surprising when 90% of gamers are setting for low quality games. But that's in general. 99% of Americans are sheep's and follow the "trend".
Playing RE4 Remake, I was mostly bored or annoyed. I got to 50% completion and decided to play the original RE4 instead. I know what you mean about the enemies being inconsistent and unflinching. This game mislead me by saying I should start on Hardcore if I've played RE4 before. Hardcore for a fresh character is pure stupidity. I ran around the village and couldn't take down more than five enemies in probably three minutes. They were just shrugging off bullets to the face like i was shooting nerf darts. A huge part of crowd control in RE4 was the stunning and melee follow ups. Now we can't do that reliably. Ashley definitely is a downgrade. There use to be a lot more hiding places we could put her in. Now she's just following close or far. I just permenantly keep her close because far seems like it's always the worse choice.
I installed mods that let you stagger with 1 shot to the leg or head, and the game became 100 times more enjoyable. The pro difficulty, outside of bullshit teleports, homing projectiles and magnetic grabs, becomes a fun challenge, except for the S+ runs. Overall, I completely agree with everything. Glad to see someone not shilling for this game.
Nobody is shilling for this game. It's a great game. No shilling needed. Also, by "it became 100 times more enjoyable" you just meant it became much easier. Skill issue.
@@loubloom1941 I beat every single challenge in this game, including Pro S+ without bonus items or mods. So, yet another drone with the skill issue argument can fuck off, goodbyyyyyyyyye
Enemy staggers and bloom are immediately noticeable. Second I got the handgun and shotgun I thought it was extremely lame that they didn’t have laser sights.
I think I might personally prefer the remake, but it definitely does not replace the original. They feel like almost completely different and nearly equally great experiences.
This!!! That's exactly the point! These remakes are never meant to replace the original! That's why Capcom said the Remake timeline is also Canon to the story! You're supposed to love this timeline and the original one!
In the end is what people prefer. Some like the originals feel while others like the remakes feel. Personally i prefer the original in terms of story and characters.
I disagreed with some arguments presented in the video, but it's ironic how much of the people who gave it dislike will not know how much "in-the-same-spot" they are with you. Great video, my friend. Keep up the good work.
Your points about the RNG of enemy staggers, but ESPECIALLY how easy it is for the enemies to instantly stagger Leon such that he looks like a clumsy buffoon hit home especially hard. Probably my #1 criticism of the game at large on higher difficulties.
The reason I prefer Remake 2 was because it was a much slower paced game, and it was survival horror. I love re 4 OG and when I went into remake 4, I understood what I should be expecting. The problem however was that remake 4 from a mechanical standpoint is similar to remake 2, but has action elements added to it. This doesnt really work though on higher difficulties. Especially how there is an RNG on the shots placed on the heads or the sensitive spots, shall we say. With remake 2, even if there was cut content, it still however met my expectations when I played it.
Glad you mentioned lighting and the flashlight. Village had the same issue and it's the main reason I didn't give it another playthrough. Now I know to wait until this game is bundled and at a discount before purchasing. Well that and bc they usually bring "cut" content back in a dlc because people are stupid enough to keep dishing out money to them. I guarantee 4remake has costume and gun/item add ons you can buy to prove my point. Guess I should've waited before comment lol, you covered this too. Point still proven lol
I was not at all excited for this game and had low expectations for it, as i consider the original an absolutely perfect game with almost no room for improvement, with a lot of the things that i love about it, namely the pacing of the combat encounters being so tight due to the limited movement requiring more thought than any shooter ive played, are things that couldnt be replicated today. I also played the original during my first ever heartbreak when i was 13, and it did a lot of heavy lifting at that time. Didnt think this could possibly touch that game. This remake is my favorite game of all time. Granted, this past month has been the hardest month of my life, which kind of mirrors the context which i played the original, but this past month has been just a nightmare. The amount of heavy lifting this game has done could not have been acheived by any other game. I do agree with your comments on ashley, the escorting in this one is objectively worse than the original
I bought the RE4 remake expecting to love it. I didn’t dislike it, but I put down the controller after getting back to the church in the first village where the tower falls and blocks your path, and just never picked it up again. Haven’t had a burning desire to and I dunno why.
You know what helps with the English voices ? The Japanese dub. Easily fixes Krauser, Ada and especially Wesker. Wesker is voiced by Alucard of Hellsing himself ! Tremendous choice !
Been waiting for this, thanks Critical nobody. Personally I think RE4R is awesome but I wouldn’t call it perfect, if it had some of the cut content still It would probably push it over the edge for me. We have 2 amazing RE4’s though, everybody wins. I’ll be revisiting the OG sometime soon. Edit: Bro people really defending the trashy microtransation tickets, that’s disgusting dear god. People like that are why the industry is so horrendous rn. The tickets aren’t inherently a horrible thing, but if they do well, the goalpost will be moved. Y’know the whole slowly turning the temperature on a boiling frog instead of instantly turning the temperature from 1 to 100 causing it to immediately jump out. Stop being idiots please. I like RE4R too, it’s awesome, that doesn’t mean its garbage business practices should be defended.
I'm not defending the tickets, I think that microtransactions should not be a thing in single player games, but I'm guilty as hell since I actually bought like 3 tickets just so I could have an easier time on S+ Speedruns.
Exactly, everyone laughed at horse armor dlc in The Elder Scrolls Oblivion back in the day. Look where we are now. Its become ridiculous today. Give companies like Capcom an inch, they will take a mile. Never forgot the on disc paid dlc baloney they pulled with Xbox 360/PS3 games.

-Original with all its flaws was still "revolutionary" whereas the Remake was merely "reactionary" drawing more inspiration from what came after the 2005 release. -Loving the gameplay of the Remake however but they basically patched up story line holes of the original by creating new plot holes. -I would've taken the Remake's story line in a completely new direction which would've pissed off both zoomers and nostalgia bros. -^In a nutshell, a true "Leon A" and "Ada B" type of scenario with the latter being more focused on a behind the scenes look of what's been happening in the bioweapons industry on a macro/micro level. -RE4 original never had the best main story line but the subplots made that game interesting for me.....the Remake however chose to defecate all over the subplots of the original and double down on the main story which doesn't even tighten up the narrative.
Well this is well timed considering I just resubbed after UA-cam decided to ubsub me from you and after watching your RE, RE 2 and 3 remake videos and in one of them you mentioned reviewing the RE4 remake. Edit: I find it funny that when talking about a glitch at around 16:10 to 16:17 the entire part looks like the area around Riften in Skyrim, a game I love and is notorious for its out of bounds glitches.
On Ada Wong's voice acting, I can't help but blame the voice director, despite the fact that pretty much everyone else's voice is on-point. At any point a voice director can step in and have an actor make the necessary changes, so we're left with two possibilities. Either the director tried and Ada's VA pulled a Bruce Willis, didn't give a damn, and thus the director had to give up to get the work done on time, or the director didn't understand Ada's character.
Kinda agree with you there, I'm sure the talented VA could pull one of many voices out of the hat. You know of these characters 'must' all be deep voiced and serious, to the point of being flat. Wesker was worse though, the nasally voiced psycho suddenly has a super deep, gravelly, generic bad guy voice. Seems to be the way it's going unfortunately... I enjoyed the voice acting in FF7R, nice variety and they generally all sounded like their character, even when the original didn't have a voice! Except Zack, which I didn't mind as he wasn't being homogenised like so many other characters.
@@Oakeybloke I can't agree with you on Wesker. RE4R is my first RE experience, so all of my experiences with it aren't informed by previous dealings with any character. So his voice seemed to fit to me- in fact, a suave-looking surely buff bad guy like that would seem very odd with a nasally voice in my opinion.
@@Ren99510 that's the character that he is. It makes sense that his voice fits the character for someone new to Wesker, given that characters 'these days' all have to fit to a stereotype; deep voiced and serious for someone who can kick ass for instance. Bit of a shame, I think. And how old do I sound saying 'these days' 😂
Well, considering that this is the same woman that played Ada in "Welcome To Raccoon City", and she was just as bad there... It may just be a skill issue on her part, too.
@@AngryAtlantean is that the one that had very bad reviews, where they messed around with the characters a lot? RE 2 remake was not that great either they completely butchered the B scenario cutting 90% of it and making it just a a copy of the A scenario with a couple of differences here and there whereas the original B scenario was a completely different story for both Leon and Claire depending with who you had played the A scenario first.
Gzus man, you were sounding so somber on Twitter that I thought you were gonna lay it into this game heavy lmao. Perfectly fine and well thought out review, great content as always. The original RE4 was probably the game I played the most on my PS2 back in the day, I don't even know how many times I played through it, but I still absolutely loved this remake, probably the most fun I've had with a third person shooter/action game in the last 10 years, I just can't stop playing the darn thing. After your previous remake videos, I wasn't sure whether to anticipate, dread, or even expect the climax to your dissapointments with the things the remakes have cut or changed. But I am very glad that you both enjoyed your experience and expressed that enjoyment alongside your criticisms (almost as if you were just making a video about a game you wanted to talk about). More than anything, I'm glad that you haven't outright dismissed the game for not being the original. So many people in the last couple months have been caught in this senseless war of "is the remake bad or is the original bad," when in reality nobody should be asking either of those questions, because those aren't the only options to choose from. The remake is a good game in its own right, and of course the original is just as good and influential as it always has been. The real question that nobody seems to ask is whether the remake was even necessary in the first place, and whether it can justify its existence in a market overly saturated with remakes, reboots, and remasters aplenty. I'm very glad you went about answering those questions instead of dying on a hill that was invented purely to start petty arguments.
I believe that remakes only could justify their existence if they end Making the original game almost obsolete(and these are made by the original Team who had the visión and ideas) or by REAL fans who want to recreate the original Game with today technology Games like Resident Evil 1 Remake, Destroy All Humans, Black Mesa, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time from the 3Ds All Remakes should be like those in my opinión

I mean he does this in the remake as well. He's not really fearful at any point.

And yeah I agree with Ashley being not glued to you, I had lots of game over just by trying to save her
You know, other than the sections where you were separated from her I never had much difficulty keeping her safe.

I guess the devs preferred REmake 1, like me 😁
I think RE4 is similar to the REmake in that it feels great at causal level, and the more you play, the more it feels like an unfinished game. Moreso the remake if I'm to be honest...

@@struggler7164 I didn't mean his literal backstory. I meant how he talks and sounds. It's much closer to Duke than the OG merchant

WHY does everyone forget how much cut of the Castelsections are before arriving to Ramon and the whole RUINS/Tomb area?
yeah after playing the original I felt like I got to the ramon fight way too quickly in the remake, with the absence of so many castle sections and the conversations with him to build his character and make his transformation more impactful

Stagger is tied to damage now. If your handgun doesn't do enough dmg, ganado will walk right through bullets.

To be completely honest I'd be much more interested in an RE0 and RE1 refresh before RE5. I don't think it needs a complete remake, but if they do, it would be cool to allow them to play with both fixed camera angles, and in 1st/3rd person. started gaming towards the end of ps1 cycle. i was used to 3d graphics and never once did i got back to playing the old snes games, nintendo games cause i was used to whatever was present at that time..even now if i ever wanna go back and play old games i do not go beyond ps1. because i cannot play them.
you can't expect that kid to go back and play ps2, ps1 games when they're used to playing games in ps5.
you can even play the original IN VR it definitely has been ported to EVERYTHING
You're one of the best critics that I've ever seen on UA-cam....keep up the good work brother
You're the only true UA-camr who stood his opinion and actually said the OG RE4 is better! And I can't agree with you more!
There are a few others who did electric underground the gaming Brit show and synthetic man did too
“Only true youtuber” so every other youtuber who liked the remake is wrong
Yeah, apparently the only "true" people are those who agrees with your opinion, anyone that says otherwise are apparently fake or something, that makes sense.
its genuinely heart breaking how many people think re4make is better. i miss krauser when he had only 1 monster arm. and i miss the qte and U3
Glad to see someone not shilling for this game.
sounds like an extreme skill issue, not surprising.
@@sylicaa8618 another drone with the "skill issue" argument. Get lost.
Nobody is shilling for this game. It's a great game. No shilling needed. Also, by "it became 100 times more enjoyable" you just meant it became much easier. Skill issue.

They took out the laser scene!! Ahhhhh!
Gotta respect a dude that takes the contrarian point of view!
You're right about everything.
But what I agree with the most is that you won't notice any of this unless you know the OG Version Inside & Out
Enemy staggers and bloom are immediately noticeable.
For mercenaries, you get the handcannon with either one S rank per map or one S rank per character
I am definitely with you on this. OG was untouched and forever a masterpiece.
I disagreed with some arguments presented in the video, but it's ironic how much of the people who gave it dislike will not know how much "in-the-same-spot" they are with you.
Great video, my friend.
Keep up the good work.
it really sucks that ill never have an experience like resident evil 4 again, love both the og and the remake.
I think the Ada performance is a direction problem, personally.

Your points about the RNG of enemy staggers, but ESPECIALLY how easy it is for the enemies to instantly stagger Leon such that he looks like a clumsy buffoon hit home especially hard. Probably my #1 criticism of the game at large on higher difficulties.
You gonna make another video on Resident Evil?
Yea. But if you got pc version you got mods to fix it

Personally I prefer the RE2 remake, but this was still tons of fun.

@@greatestnitemare6626
I didnt say it was better than the OG, but at least I enjoyed it more than remake 4.

The replay value wasn't there for me with re2r like re4r
After i beat it, i just went back to OG4
and still play OG4 lol, the remake is just inferior even when i tried my hardest to like it.
You just had that moment where you no longer like video games
You know what helps with the English voices ? The Japanese dub. Easily fixes Krauser, Ada and especially Wesker. Wesker is voiced by Alucard of Hellsing himself ! Tremendous choice !
You can get the RPD outfit by getting S+ rank on all mercenaries maps with every character..... it's a pain in the ass though
You never even mentioned how bad the aiming is in this great but flawed game and how awful the shooting gallery is too.
The shooting gallerys great what are you talking about😂

@@carlo5771bullshit issue
Interesting opinion there, but compared to the OG, the aiming here is glorious imo, lol.
@@Gruntvc I don’t necessarily have an issue with microtransactions as a whole, but pay2win is pretty awful. I don’t mind some cosmetic micro transactions and if it’s a game I really like I’ll toss them the couple bucks and buy a few things here and there, but the issue is when they take it too far.
The original isn’t perfect either. QTEs were a major gripe for many.
@@TheVulgarPeasant I don’t mind QTE’s at all, I’ve never understood the hatred for them.
I'm soo happy to see you return! Love your content. I hope, one day I can say the same for splinter cell.😢
I heard that blonde haired, blue eyed, supreme race, essentially neo nazi Wesker was played by a black dude, for example. I avoided it so can't say for sure.
Fair enough wanting to have a diverse cast of characters, why not introduce new characters for this, like the older films did. Back then I thought they messed with the characters too much lol, how little I knew 🤭

It took me over 30 hours of playing this game to stop opening my inventory to switch my weapons.
Same, the OG controls are so deeply ingrained into my muscle memory that it took me almost one whole play-through to adjust.
Glad the honeymoon phase is over so ppl can rly judge it on how it is
I played the game in Brazilian Portuguese and I actually prefer it over English because the voice acting sounds more like the original but in a different language. Especially the merchant
It’s nice to see someone who isn’t BLINDLY inlove with this game, it’s good and waaaay better than RE3R, but no one near reaches the heights of the RE2 Remake. It’s just really missing ALOT of the charm the OG release had.

@@TheNomadJack fair enough, suppose this is all just subjective tho...
RE 2 remake was not that great either they completely butchered the B scenario cutting 90% of it and making it just a a copy of the A scenario with a couple of differences here and there whereas the original B scenario was a completely different story for both Leon and Claire depending with who you had played the A scenario first.

The original RE4 was probably the game I played the most on my PS2 back in the day, I don't even know how many times I played through it, but I still absolutely loved this remake, probably the most fun I've had with a third person shooter/action game in the last 10 years, I just can't stop playing the darn thing. I disagree on a bunch of things you pointed out, but overall, I can see where you're coming from on everything you said.
Are people really giving you a hard time over this? That makes no sense, review was great!
I believe that remakes only could justify their existence if they end Making the original game almost obsolete(and these are made by the original Team who had the visión and ideas) or by REAL fans who want to recreate the original Game with today technology
Games like Resident Evil 1 Remake, Destroy All Humans, Black Mesa, Zelda: Ocarina Of Time from the 3Ds
All Remakes should be like those in my opinión
