    Darren. You are the man. Don't listen to people who tell you you ramble to much or that you should take a page out of Larry's book or what not. I have been detailing cars since 2003 and I have learned much from you. Thanks for your tips.

    Great points Darren about how the microscopic abrasions will be nondetectable once waxed. I have performed this on several vehicles in my new detailing business (2 months) and at the end of the day the paint looked better when I was done than before I started. In each case the customer was wowed as to how much better their paint looked. As you always say, there is a difference between thy hypothetical world and the real world. In the real world most customers see a shiny and clean car, don't have the hyper critical eye of a professional detailer, and are happy when they see that shiny clean car.

    At 10:50 Gospel truth! A wash -> claying -> and a coat of wax to the untrained eye looks like a 10 As for the discussions, I will admit they are long -BUT I learn a lot even when the convo goes off topic a bit. You keep it real and that's what I appreciate.

    Possible dumb question - mea culpa - if you are claying a previously waxed surface done (after proper claying originally) with say Meguiars Ultimate Liquid wax that was done 2 mos ago...always garaged...do you have to re-wax the entire car again after each subsequent claying...on a monthly schedule....ie.does the claying take off all the wax too? Or is hitting it the car with a quick spray wax after claying each time good enough for a typical owner like me (not prof detailer like yourself?)

    When you say the clay bar will abrade the paint, do you mean it will abrade the clear coat? I'm a little confused...the clay bar will actually rub off the clear coat down to, and then abrade, the paint?

    Hi Darren,
    i viewed al the videos about detailing clay you made, made a lot clearer about this topic.
    Great stuff, good information.
    But still i have a question, As good as every part of a car collects polution. And a lot of cars have black trim/moldings a long side of the car or parts of the bumper are just black plastics, some are smooth some are textured. ( mostly this occurs on lower budget cars)
    But can you clay these materials? Because polution also sticks to that!
    Or will it leave marks or will it haze the plastics??
    Thanks in advance

    If I use something like this or a clay bar on a black vehicle will I need to polish it afterwards? Do these products leave fine scratches? My car is new and has a small amount of fallout on it.

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому

      Nick Povey Any and all the clay bars, cloths, or sponges will abrade the paint. How much depends on you and how hard and long you have to rub. As far as polishing afterwards, once again, it depends on your own critical eye. It is only about visual enhancement. If you see abrading and don't like it, then you will have to polish the paint to remove. I would try applying wax after claying first to determine if you feel the need to polish.
      If you decide you need to polish, see this page for beginners: www.best-auto-detailing-tips.com/polish-cars.html

    I am learning about clay bar for the first time. I also have never waxed a car. I have a newly painted 2006 Tacoma and BMW 135i. I will start detailing them. My question is do I wash the clay off the car with water or just wipe it off with a micro towel?

    • @lonestarpatriot876
      @lonestarpatriot876 7 років тому

      You would not actually be applying clay to your car as in a coat of clay that would be washed off, or wiped off with microfiber. When you clay bar a vehicle, you are simply lubricating the surface (generally with a detailing spray) and then immediately rubbing a clay bar across the lubricated surface, and then buffing off any excess detailing spray. I would highly recommend having a professional do this for you, or doing some extensive research based on your comment.

    Darren I got a question for u I've called allot meaning 12 detailers and asked them this and they haven't been able to respond I used that clay block the blue one on my 2015 Nissan sentra to clay it once I bought it cuz I felt the paint a bit rough so I clayed it with that clay block and it left like rubber marks all over the car and now I'm wondering have u ever ran into this problem? and if so how did you fix it

    • @kennyono4389
      @kennyono4389 8 років тому

      your rubbing too hard with little lubrication. try not rubbing as hard. to take them off a little wax on a orbital or a rag will take it off.

    • @lonestarpatriot876
      @lonestarpatriot876 7 років тому

      The answer is two fold. Those bars should only be used in the shade. Two is that you may be rubbing too hard, or may not have lubricated the surface as much as need be as you are doing it. lastly, all methods of doing contamination removal (outside of chemical) will in some way be abrasive to the paint. Generally it is so slight that you do not see it after applying wax. Lastly, this is why many simply polish and wax a vehicle after they clay bar the vehicle. That would remove any abrasion marks caused by the claybar process.

      TheLyngas Valid point; there is definitely value in the "specialness" a car has the ability to create. Certainly the Maserati in all their forms does that! I have always been and continue to big a huge fan. On top of that, Maserati has one of the best exhaust notes on the market today regardless of the competitions marque and price.

    Daren, i have one of those sponges (blue version like that one) and it works great. But theres better and much faster alternatives that i recommend more then the sponge version. It is the EagleOne surface mitt. Theres also Nanoskin's version of the mitt as you mention in this or another video you've made before this one. I have the EagleOne mitt and this is even better and much faster then the sponge. With the sponge you have a higher tendency to drop it on the ground more compare to something that you would put on. Using the sponge, when i hit something thats not flat, usually if i dont pay attention the sponge goes flying and so far 75% of the time, it lands on the face of the sponge and if you're anal, you might not rinse it off and use it again. So as far as clay atternative, i highly recommend the mitt wether its from Nanoskin or EagleOne

    • @autofetishdetail
      @autofetishdetail  9 років тому +7

      Roy Santiago For every comment I get like this, I get about 10 who tell me not to listen to people or comments like this as many people want all the details. Any given subject is prone to deviate from a rigid structure of instruction and information. One's man's idea of irrelevant information, may actually be a real "life saver" to a guy who actually has to perform in the real world of paying customers and meeting customer expectations.
      I speak from my own unique experience and in many ways, am responding to a world that over-simplifies most topics and the last thing I want people to do is simply be casually entertained by my videos and information. My deeper goal is that a person can actually walk away with enough info to make truly informed decisions and with enough knowledge to implement specific strategies into their actual world as they know it.
      Larry is very "technical" for lack of a better word, but I do believe he also caters to a more narrow strategic goal with his videos; one's that talk and demonstrate techniques within isolation and not geared towards the guy who actually has to operate a business, deal with real paying customers, is clearly marketing his own line of products, and likely speaks from a naive perspective outside of the real world and difficult task of real world auto detailing business that is made up of far more than "how to do this, how to do that, or what product to use in a given situation".
      We all have our own unique style, speak from our own unique experience, and therefore will appeal to our own unique audience.
      And no offense taken.

      Auto Fetish Detail in some way I get what Roy Santiago is saying.. I watch and like you're videos...probably would call you up to take care of my xc90 (shame I am in Germany)....anyway. In terms of staying to the subject you really tend to get on to the side lane.Most times its fine... and yes you're single fighter...me as well, but I can and will not complain...as it is my choice to do so and I am fine with it... don't get me wrong totally respect your style and I think you do a fabulicious job explaining us everything...but sometimes it sounds like.."gosh it's so hard, and everyone must understand that..." yes there are many half backed potatos out there ... including me...a weekend warrior. One thing Larry from Ammo is doing really great is selling his professional business... thats the way! little advice.. "Auto Fetish Detail"?
    I think not.
    As MANY of my fellow reviewers have commented...the only FETISH you have is listening to the SOUND OF YOUR OWN VOICE!
    You are clearly a frustrated public speaker...or maybe politician. YOU BABBLE! STOP IT.
    CUT TO THE CHASE.
