We all appreciate the honest and direct information and experience that you are willing to share for us all. As a weekend warrior, I had my fair share of wasting money on products that dont perform (that expandable hose included), and I have saved a lot of time and money in choosing products based on your input. TQ again Darren.
Darren, you are smart, informed, and professional...and do indeed exude confidence. Thanks for sharing your experience with others on You Tube. I think your videos can certainly speed up the learning curve and hopefully save some costly mistakes by others that are considering getting into the detailing business.
You always give invaluable information that I would otherwise have to pay hundreds of dollars for. Thank you for answering my questions and engaging my curiosity!
Darren thanks a lot, I haven't been on here in awhile as I have been trying to put everything I have been learning into practice, but it was a good way to come back. Although I expected a little more about Waterless Detailing.... in fact there was nothing about that..... but you always pack your videos full of Darren Speak, so it's all good! Thanks again!
My aunt works in the factory that makes these hoses for Sears. You're right, they last a very long time because they are a very high grade rubber, mostly virgin material I believe, rather than rubber thats been recycled and used several times already.
Really enjoy your videos Darren. You and other detailers on UA-cam have shown me how to properly take care of my new Cadillac. It looks even better than it looked out of the showroom as I removed the dealer installed scratches (free of charge or course).
Thanks so much for the shout out Darren! I really appreciate it! I also appreciate my very supportive gf for surprising me by contacting you. I'm a huge fan and probably just as critical of my results I try to deliver to my customers. It would be an honor to meet you one day. Thanks for all that you do to help others.
+Matthew Zydorczyk Happy to fulfill the request whenever I can. You have a very thoughtful GF! Congrats to the both of you! And perhaps our paths will cross someday....
Thanks Darren. i carry around a short extension cord and hose but most of the time the customer will offer me their hose and cord, that's already connected so it simplifies my world even more! even if you don't have the confidence just fake it till you make it!
These videos you make really explained a lot. Sure can relate to some of the things you were saying. Been watching your videos for a month now and can't stop. Great information that i can use in my business as well. So, thanks Darren.
Darren, thanks for sharing this info and I completely agree with your approach to using the client's water/electrical taps. I do appreciate the extra info on risk management with respect to taping down cords and even the potential for a client to run over a hose and damage it, ending your work in the process. Thanks again for your time!
+Detailer's Helper And a big thank you to you. I test drove your belt today (see Instagram) and fell in love with it. Had to go around the corner and have a moment alone with it. It was awesome!
Thanks again Darren and know your videos are great and very informative, especially to a "newbie" like me! I just started doing detailing part time and have been swamped since I took the plunge! Thanks for all the details (pun intended) in your videos as they have helped me answer many questions to get me started that I would have probably never found answers to otherwise! Hoping one day I'll be able to jump into this full time! Thanks again and many blessings to you!!
+Mike Klossner I commend you for your willingness to believe in yourself and take that risk. As a risk it is, and not everyone is willing to do what you are doing. I wish you more success than I have enjoyed.
Great video once again Darren! I am a young detailer about to open up my detailing business and you have helped me tremendously. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Darren! Good job Darren! Learned something! Whatever ... XD Now seriously, it's such a pleasure and a joy to learn with you, Darren! You've helped me so much in my 2 year old detailing business. Thank you so much Miguel Gomes - Car Detail "Details that make a difference."
awesome sauce Darren another great video with a little extra information needed if you "actually listen to the whole video" keep up the great work! Thanks for the video
Where I live, the town has outlawed any type of vehicle work on the street. Its all about tax dollars by a reputable business with a license. Great tips in this video!
Great videos.. Its nice to hear that what I do, someone else does similar. I carry my own water in an 80gal tank.. Ive found that I cannot always rely on customers having good water pressure or a handy spigot... I use an industrial 30 yard 3/4inch hose. Metal connectors FTW.. Buy cheap, buy twice. Like you I have no issues using customers power, I carry 2 power cords on reels but mine are 50 yards long. I carry 2 just in case.. No one wants to hear a generator running for 4 to 6 hours while im working on a vehicle. Where the vehicle is and what the customer expects my power needs and fee's are all discussed during the booking process. Ive found... Some customers will lie or at least tell you what you want to hear to get you to turn up.. On finding this I have no issues in saying No to a job if the work space is not acceptable. Fortunately the UK doesnt have the local code BS. Finally. I lived in CA92227 for a little while.... 68F or 20c is not cold.. 20c is a hot shorts n t-shirt summers day in the UK
I have a mobile detailing business and can honestly say that I have never had a single problem with a customer about plugging into their power and water. I always tell them on the phone that it is a requirement and at that point they can say yes or no. I have never had a customer say no. In fact, I have only used my own hose on a couple of occasions. This would be no different than the General Contractors who do all kinds of work around houses where they would plug into your power or water. I watched my neighbors house get pressure washed on the outside just today and they plugged into his water system, and my neighbor had no problem with it. It was a non-subject. When I talk to the customer on the phone I simply do as Darren suggests and act like it is normal and move to the next part of the conversation. It goes something like this "all we need from you is a power outlet and a water spout to connect our hose to"...very simple...I have never even had a customer ask why.
Darren, I appreciate your videos!! Did I miss the part about "waterless detailing" in this video? I am a mobile detailer performing rinseless washes for the same reasons you do not carry a water tank. I do not want to be the mobile "washer" , I prefer to do the details. Take a mildly dirty car, clean it up, but then make it POP with the polishing. Have you done a video on rinseless washing? something maybe I missed? Always look for idea's on how to be more efficient, and learn something from each of your videos. Thank you for taking the time to do these vids!!!
I learned the hard way about using the right extension cord when using a regular 100 foot cord with my extractor and burnt out the pump. Took me a month to get it working again
Wish I had seen this video last year before I purchased this 75 foot commercial grade hose that weight a metric ton and is almost impossible to move around ;) Sometimes you think you are upgrading your tools and end up with something less than desirable ;)And I agree with you about connecting to the client's electric and water. Only issue I have ever had was that there was no water faucet not electrical box outside and apartment building. But I have never had a customer offended or surprised that I needed to hook up to those services at their residence.
+Rick Rivera Eventually. But the video will be more about "things" I consider just as important as technique. Like many other moments of life, the other critical part of the equation is never discussed. like managing expectations, how to make sure people understand the limitations of the process, etc.
I had the same experience with those cheap "as seen on tv" hoses. Yea it's a good idea and it's tiny and light but after maybe 10 uses if that, it'll split open in the hose area. Definitely not worth it. Spend a little more and get something like Darren's brown hose. I did and it's great if you are close to the spout.
Darren, thanks for good information! Btw, always unroll the whole extension cord or the rolled part can heat up and in worst case scenario melt! The title made me expect some details about waterless washes, even if I know you do detailing, not washes (even if I *knew* the title used the word *detailing*). ;)
+Victor Wambugu That's exactly what my goal is and love to hear that whenever I do! Good luck in creating a life of your own design! If you're not building and working to create your own dreams, you will be working to create another man's dream.
I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot in helping me decide to start a mobile detailing business. I am just starting out so I plan on doing full service to include washing and detailing to establish a client base. How do I know what to charge for my services? I live in western Wisconsin and know that most people aren't going to pay $150+ for a detail or $20-40 for a basic wash/vac. When you first started how did you determine your prices? Thanks for your time and all the effort you put into your videos.
Why does Waterless car Washing really turn me off? It's not like it's a sacrilege thing but more getting the head around the grit doing damage and cheap out of town retail park auto valeting stations - clearly I know nothing! What I do like is the 'ECO DETAILING' message (as that's where the trend is in everything) . How do we position the waterless car cleaning as a premium solution? Any videos on this please? Getting used to your dialogues...I am a 'get to the facts' type person but I see that you are being more than helpful in providing genuine context from experience. I am in the depths of the wrong information overload syndrome investigating extending my property services brand in my small bt wealthy market. Thanks
Another perspective towards not carrying an expensive mobile wash unit is to keep costs down for the customer. In other words, costs of any supply(s) is passed to the customer.
I've literally built my business from the ground up based on the information you provide in every video Darren. I truly can't thank you enough.
We all appreciate the honest and direct information and experience that you are willing to share for us all. As a weekend warrior, I had my fair share of wasting money on products that dont perform (that expandable hose included), and I have saved a lot of time and money in choosing products based on your input. TQ again Darren.
+Suhaib Ali Exactly what I like to hear. Providing information that is actually useful; not just entertaining.
I've always used the customers water & electric never have I been question!
Thanks for clarifying that Darren!
Darren, you are smart, informed, and professional...and do indeed exude confidence. Thanks for sharing your experience with others on You Tube. I think your videos can certainly speed up the learning curve and hopefully save some costly mistakes by others that are considering getting into the detailing business.
nice video and answering those commonly asked questions. nice to see your subscriber base is growing rapidly! keep up the hard work darren
You always give invaluable information that I would otherwise have to pay hundreds of dollars for. Thank you for answering my questions and engaging my curiosity!
+Marina Mantulenko I'm going to quote you on that one Marina! : )
I truly enjoy watching your videos Darren, they're always packed full of information and I've learned so much from you. Thanks and keep it up!
Darren thanks a lot, I haven't been on here in awhile as I have been trying to put everything I have been learning into practice, but it was a good way to come back. My aunt works in the factory that makes these hoses for Sears. You're right, they last a very long time because they are a very high grade rubber, mostly virgin material I believe, rather than rubber thats been recycled and used several times already.
Thanks Darren, you've opened my eyes about comfortability and professionalism about detailing. Thanks again man!
Really enjoy your videos Darren. You and other detailers on UA-cam have shown me how to properly take care of my new Cadillac. It looks even better than it looked out of the showroom as I removed the dealer installed scratches (free of charge or course).
+Matthew Swift Yes, most of us can thanks the dealer for many "freebies"
Thanks so much for the shout out Darren! I really appreciate it! I also appreciate my very supportive gf for surprising me by contacting you. I'm a huge fan and probably just as critical of my results I try to deliver to my customers. It would be an honor to meet you one day. Thanks for all that you do to help others.

+Josh M Yes, I think most of us can appreciate that mode of operation...."Fake it till you make it"
I've been wondering about the water and electrical issue for a while, thanks Darren
These videos you make really explained a lot. Sure can relate to some of the things you were saying. Been watching your videos for a month now and can't stop. Great information that i can use in my business as well. So, thanks Darren.
This is a question that always lingered in my mind for awhile. Thanks for explaining it, very useful!
Hey Darren, just paying it forward from MPdetailing, Vancouver, Canada
Great content for true detailers earning a buck.
I agree completely about the craftsman rubber hoses. Those bad boys rock!! even my sprinter can't crush the end fittings. Thanks for the video
Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge Darren. So motivating. You are the inspiring example of enthusiasm.
Dope. You're video are fairly long, but puts you into a real life situation. Keep them coming. Great stuff.
Darren, thanks for sharing this info and I completely agree with your approach to using the client's water/electrical taps. I do appreciate the extra info on risk management with respect to taping down cords and even the potential for a client to run over a hose and damage it, ending your work in the process. Darren you have changed my life.
Thank you

Great Video Darren! So many people don't understand extension cords and hoses especially, so that was great info, keep up the great work!
+Detailer's Helper And a big thank you to you. I test drove your belt today (see Instagram) and fell in love with it. Had to go around the corner and have a moment alone with it. It was awesome!

As a customer using my water and electrical source is the least of my concern
+twoicyclops Exactly what I have found to be the case.
Thank you Darren for another informative video. Happy you are also part of American Detailer.

Thank you for the insight. I had been wondering about this topic as I'm gearing up to start my own business.
I liked this greeting much better! Keep up the great work!
We live in Buffalo and have had this hose for years and it stays outside all year! Love it!!
Great job mate. Thanks all the way from New Zealand.Regards Kevin
Another great video, trying to also figure out all the chemicals you have in the background. I can name a little over half of them!
+Griffin Thomas You are not alone. I do the same thing; as I am certain many others do the same.

+Calendyr All you have to do in life most times is simply act like it is "business as usual"
same thing happened to me with the hose i bought, Darren.. don't feel bad
great video Darren! I surely will be visiting your website to order products.
Great detailed information Darren.
Thanks Darren. Great video.
Will you ever do a video on touch up paint, how to mix, match & apply?
+Rick Rivera Eventually. But the video will be more about "things" I consider just as important as technique. Like many other moments of life, the other critical part of the equation is never discussed. like managing expectations, how to make sure people understand the limitations of the process, etc.

Darren Priest is such a cool name. Sounds like you would be a sports athlete quarter back in the NFL or a guitarist in a band.
+joe scott That would be a first. Usually it is in reference to Judas Priest the rock group....but then again, my wonder years were in the eighties.
Thanks Darren. New to all this , in fact haven't even gotten started. complete virgin!
Awesome Darren, keep it up
Thanks Darren, good job, and I really did learn something.A lot!
