- Blacksmith Builds A knife from India, The Rampuri Chaku
The Rampuri (रामपूरी चाकू) is an Indian gravity knife of formidable reputation having a single-edged blade roughly 9 to 12 inches (23 to 30 cm) long. The name Rampuri comes from the town of Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. The royal bladesmiths of local Nawabs of Rampur started making knives after the popularization of firearms after the 18th century.
The Rampuri is still in use today. However, in mid 1990s, the Government of Uttar Pradesh banned making such knives longer than 4.5 inches (11 cm) of blade length, which led to the drop in popularity of the knife, which even made its way to crime thrillers of Bollywood in the 1960s and 1970s - Розваги

Many thanks!
I'm your 333rd vote! And I voted up! You're an amazing blacksmith and I love your content. Thanks for being a positive voice in the brotherhood!
Hey Tim, You've Made The Legendary "Rampuri Chaku" (=the Rampur Knife) exactly the same way Our Rampur Artisans makes it.. The History of same Switchable and foldable Knives from Rampur Goes Back to the Mughal Era in the Agra Region in India. Current Famous "Rampuri Chaku Knives" has a minimum of 350 years of History. but Ironically, this art is in it's Last Stage due to ignorance. In Rampur it self has Only 3 or 4 Original artisans who makes it ...! You've got the eyes of a Real Artisan Sir! Love from India..!
The knife turned out quite nice Time I like the damascus patterns with that 1800 layer

Hello Sir Tim! I find myself lacking the words to adequately express the joy I felt at finding a new video from you, and having now had the chance to watch it, I am once again in awe of your artistry. Every project you are kind enough to share is a treasure, and I am truly grateful for the work you put not only into the project itself, but the video as well. Peace and prosperity to you and yours good sir.
Thank you so much and thanks forwatching.
Always an added treat to watch a video of a different way of making knives and also to get a pretty cool history lesson of said tool. From long forgotten damascus to a knife being lost to time, mixed with 3D printing templates... amazing video, sir. Thank you for sharing your craftsmanship.
Nice work. I think I can use some of what I just watched to fix a broken knife I have. Thanks.
THANKS TO GOD YOU'RE BACK!

👏👏masterful !!
Thank you! Cheers!
It's good to see YOU again! It's also cool to finally get the chance and see how a toggle lock works. Just about every video you shoot is some kind of revelation for me. I know of these kind of knife by the German word "saufänger" or "pig sticker" in English. I have 2 of them and am always on the lookout for a good deal on another one. They were very popular hunting knives in days of yore after firearms improved and carrying a sword with a 2' blade (the old-timey "hirschfänger" with a stag grip and usually decorated with acorns) was no longer really necessary. I've long suspected these toggle lock may have had a near eastern origin because in the Peshawar region there is a folding hand sickle-a "lohar" in the local dialect-that looks incredibly similar albeit with the lock along the spine of the tool.
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing and God Bless you sir!
Thanks, you too!
That's what the thuggy used to carry. excellent video Tim👍✌
