Good morning. I’m w (57) live alone in the interior of Alaska, in a remote dry cabin the last 11 years. Don’t worry about the trees. As soon as the sap goes back into the tree‘s they will straighten out. Birch trees are the most resilient trees in the world. Also your chicken will lay eggs into the boxes if you put some straw in it. Saw dust is fine but they like boxes with straw better. It’s also healthier. They sit quite some time before the eggs come out and it is warmer with straw. We get a lot of snow here and I do my trails around the house with my snow shoes. It’s easier and way faster. Wish you a pleasant week, enjoy the snow, it will be soon over and mud season begins. Thank you for the beautiful videos.
Maybe where you are, they are. We had an ice storm years ago and there are patches of hillside where the only trees that failed were all birch. Whole sections died of from the stress. Years later, it's kind of dangerous walking in such places because they are full of widowmakers.
Imagine ploughing through waist high snow and go back and forth to place your camera in places so we won’t notice the snow is already walked through. That’s dedication to art!

Adding to the voices already...that hike was an absolute pleasure...to think those families who lived by those waters, that over time, carved and recarved its path by them...wonder how often they stopped to just be in sheer wonder of their surroundings...soak in the beauty... Wonderful work, at your home and editing...music was exquisitely chosen for this episode. Thank you for all that you do to share your journey with us...
That snow was beautiful and scary at the same time, but for you, it's just another challenge in the raw. I love the sequences in your video. They intertwined all aspects: nature and the domestic aspects of life, house, work, neighbours, art, and music. A combination of all that elevates your mind and soul. Watching your hands dipped in that stream of water, one is wondering that those hands can hold an axe, a shavel, or a hammer, and also can hold a pencil or a painting brush and the result is art, a masterpiece. Your videos are art to me. You are a creator, and I feel blessed and truly grateful to watch them. Thank you❤

A moving episode, particularly when seeing the ruins of the endeavours of previous generations. Who were they? What were their hopes and dreams? The soundtrack you chose Martin, fitted perfectly. Thank you.
Yes, who were they? Tough, strong people, used to hard work, people who had to wrest their right to live from the mountains... because the mountain is stingy, very stingy, it makes you pay a heavy price for what it gives. No roads, only mule tracks, no off-road vehicles, only the faithful mule. the winters were much colder and snowier than now so the villages had to be self-sufficient because people could not move due to the snow. This was life in the Alps. But now that we live with all the comforts, are we happy?
my anxieties for the chickens are through the roof so i had to pause the video just a few minutes in and go spend time with mine to tell them i love them and thank them for being my sole companions on my own isolated homestead.
I love chickens my neighbors have them, I go feed them treats meal worms and corn. They come running when they see me. I wish all I do in life made me feel like I feel when they come running. I get disappointed when they turn over the the flock for fresh chickens to increase egg production. I get depressed then but try to be there for the next ones.

While watching this beautiful video, an overwhelming feeling came over me of how blessed/fortunate we all are to be alive and living on this magnificent earth. Martijn, you are an artistic genius with your camera work. The dedication to your art is overwhelming as you place your camera in places to create a scene of you walking, driving, working to make a cohesive video. There were instances where I couldn’t even see your footsteps in the snow, yet I knew you had to have walked through it to set up the camera. The floors look absolutely stunning. I’m sure it has gone through your mind this winter how happy you must be to be living in the cottage and not the yurt tent. Good wishes for a lovely week.
That music down by the river raises tears. That is another fantastic place to build. Amazing how the landscape changes in short distance. Very peaceful, soothing. Thanks for showing us the waterfall. Who would live elsewhere? Sure all other loyal followers agree.
How well I remember living in wilderness areas in Central Oregon. We were blessed with geothermal heat from a capped geyser, but the extremes could be startling. One spring thaw, our bridge across the river was taken out by a house-sized berg that dislodged from the glacier five miles up, and rolled the riverbed our direction. But the scent of the sunny, dry, crisp air that winter is still in my memory. I look forward to your weekly journal of images with great earnest. It rekindled moments in my memory. Thank you.

Thank you Martiijn, another beautiful video, wonderful closing music on this one, lovely. The floor looks absolutely beautiful, you must be very proud..my eyebrows went up a little at the acid being poured over it, but the effect was worth it! Yor overall skill with all aspects of this build are astonishing. Add to that painter, chef, stonemason and joiner...words fail me. Many congratulations. Only one thing I have a problem with..those ladies in the chicken coop...I would love for you to put a couple of bales of straw in there. One opened, broken up and spread about for them to kick about and forage in, and one left whole for a while, for them to sit on, scratch at , and generally enjoy. Bare earth is very limiting when its the only pecking they get in this kind of weather. I know they're allowed out in better weather. But a little extra something in these cold days would be a treat for them.🤞

OMG! The last time I´ve been in so much snow was way back in 1978, when I was living in the north of Germany and in one night )New Year´s night) nearly 2 meters of snow fell. We were snowed in for 2 weeks in a thatched cottage until the snow ploughs came out to our place! We used to climb out through the 1st floor window, as the door and windows on the ground floor were impossible to open.
I was thinking the same thing about the winter of 1978. I was living in Boston, Massachusetts during the infamous Blizzard of ‘78 when the city was paralyzed for a week with abandoned vehicles on major highways and snowdrifts completely covering the first levels of homes. I recall seeing some industrious people getting around Boston on cross country skies, skiing right over cars. And i agree with Martjin - weather like that is often a bonding experience.
The floor looks so beautiful! I feel your struggles from the huge snow load you had, lost a few trees here in Reno, NV. Glad you are melting fast there! Thank you dearly for sharing.

You've really accomplished alot !! The views are spectacular!! Good to know your doing well!! Sending blessings to you!! ❤ Carolyn Klenk Pennsylvania PA
SImply WOW!!! This was one of the best episodes so far! Thank you Martin
Simply Beautiful!
But a little extra something in these cold days would be a treat for them.🤞
Some of the scenery reminds me of the mountains of southeastern Kentucky.
I also love to eat chocolate with coffee! I love all the music in your videos! Also I feel like one day, you should open a restaurant.I would love to eat some of the food that you cook. That stone floor turned out so incredibly nice! Please don't stop giving us such motivational and beautiful videos!
I love them all!
I look forward to seeing the downstairs decorated and ready to move into.
WOW , I truly loved that old stone arched bridge , what a good work from ancient people who lived there once , they were as good as the romans in building their aqueducts!! And the pond , the cristal clear water , the waterfalls, the river , such a beautiful landscape 🤩🤩😍😍🙋♀️🇨🇱 Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for another beautiful video with 80-90 cm snow 😉 and that great floor downstairs.👍
So have a busy week with your planed progress. See you next weekend 🖖☀️👋
TBH, I wasn’t sure that the stone floor was a good idea. But I think you’ve made me rethink that decision, because it came out wonderfully 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽♥️♥️♥️
Very serene this week. Earl's cello/violin suite especially nice during the hike.
OMG Thank God you are not in the tent. Your hard work is paying off. Stay warm. Thank You for another adventure in your world.
FANTASTIC JOB ON THE STONE FLOOR, LOOKS REALLY AMAZING. THE ACID CLEAN REALLY MAKES IT POP
there is something mesmerizing in these videos, it's hard to explain, or put words. it shows how life can be simple.

There are no words for such exquisiteness! So lovely, and soul soothing to watch..
Thank you for bringing your world to ours. There's not enough words to tell you how appreciative we are to view your life.
AMAZING floor!!! Like everything else really , the walls, the fireplace, the stairs. Can't wait for the homing in decoration.!
Although you have nothing to do with it apart from filming it so much snow is really beautiful. ❄️❄️❄️❄️🏔️
There is so much love in your labor. I have watched since the beginning and the bike video before. I get so much peace from sharing this journey with you, my friend. From an aging flower farmer in Northern California, USA, thank you Martijn.
Wow. That's winter saying goodbye in style.
Wow! A perfect balance of information, scenery, life in the mountains, music and meditation time. Thank you!!!
Martijn…. That floor…Bravo friend. Bravo
Every Sunday after church we watch your latest video. Every one is breathtaking, your home is spectacular. You give us peace
Amazing photography, editing and sound. Enjoyed this one.
The ONLY filming I turn the volume up the loudest so I don't miss a single second of surround sound.
Masterful filming!!
Same here. Have my computer connected to a sound bar. The background music so fits with the scenes and the mood.
Quel momento in cui spali la neve e il cielo è azzurrissimo… ❤
Your composition of photos with that hauntingly beautiful music nourishes my soul. No longer able to do alpine walks your weekly contribution is wonderfully received. Multi gratis! Joy
Excellent work! It’s a pleasure to watch the scenery of your videos
You have much to teach us all about work life balance. Yes the floor has turned out really beautiful Greeting to all from Australia 🇦🇺
That bridge is stunning. I like the difference the acid wash made in the floor. Another wonderful video.
The floor looks beautiful.
And isn't nature just amazingly peaceful?
I could watch that stream and pond all day .
Beautiful progress. It’s been a very wet winter here in Sanremo.
Spring is coming…
I watch every week and I have to say, that was one of my favorites
I so enjoy your sharing of your journey Martijn.
Your films bring a bit of curiosity, peace and calm into my weekends.
Bedankt mijn Vriend.
I remember that Schneekatastrophe!
Or Snowmageddon!
Welcome to Sweden 🇸🇪. There’s no lack of it here!
The floor looks so beautiful! I feel your struggles from the huge snow load you had, lost a few trees here in Reno, NV. Glad you are melting fast there! Thank you dearly for sharing.
The tranquility and beauty is just wonderful, as is your workmanship.
Wow such beauty in the snow and the river and very nostalgic music, thank you
