Anyone else crying? I am so happy for Martijn❣️I’ve been here from the beginning, and remember all the HARD work. You’ve done a magnificent job and am so proud of you young man. Can’t wait for next project. 👍🙂💖
I thought maybe I was the only one with "glistening" eye. I can't be happier for him!
Little bit teary eyed 🥹
Not in the slightest 🤷♂️
I don’t get all emotional for somebody else’s benefit, particularly if I’m not invested. If you’re this attached, you may want to go outside and take a break from social media.
Tears also here in Finland, I am so happy to see this cozy little totally hand-made home ready! A big hug, Martijn!
If theres an Annual UA-cam award for Best Content Provider, this man gets my vote, truly amazing
🏆
Totally agree with you!!! I’ll vote for Martijn a hundred times 🤩🤩
🏆best YT Channel, Martijn's people's choice awards!
I concur
Yes
I discovered Martjin when i was 3 months pregnant.... And started to be one of my moments of relaxation, the sound of the birds.... The nature... The chickens...
and the fact that 1 Man was doing everything..... Now my baby girl has 1 year and 9months and i am still watching Martjin every week and keeping IT one of my relaxation moments.... And i will still be here watching every one of them. Wishing all the Best Martjin and strenght for every proiect that will come.... We are all here for You and for us as well.♥️
No politics, no nonsense, no clickbait, no sponsorship, nothing what could potentially turn you off. Only raw, unfettered willingness to work, do art and live the life....pure joy for my soul in this crazy world we live in. Thank you Martijn, bravo!
Here, here !
Well said
So true, but (no, not but) and l believe Martijn is a good Christian man, and l believe that it shows.
@@anitasmith203 he's christian? did I miss something?
@@nembutsu1045l suppose l am making a slight assumption, but l did watch an earlier video of his parents and others visiting and at one point before dinner they all with bowed heads prayed a blessing over the meal in the dutch language, so possibly it's just his parents but it was a beautiful family moment, imo.
Did anyone else let out a sigh of relief when Martijn sat down on the sofa?
I actually did, yes! 😂😊
Yes
All week kept envisioning What the sofa would look like. It's beautiful!
that moment of self-realisation when he laughes a little. "holy shit! I did this!"
Martijn, Gefeliciteerd met je mooie huis🎉
Wat een hard werk heb jij verricht , en nu is daar het prachtige resultaat! Geniet ervan!😊
Succes met het vervolg.
Martijn, I am a 75 year old lady in thr UK and have followed your journey with the cabin all the way through. You are such a perfectionist and you have created a magnificent home. It was lovely to see you with friends having dinner and lovely to hear the comments that your bedroon was swanky. Look fofrward to more of your creative works. Who needs TV when you get such great programs as this on you tube.
♥
I’m also a 71 year old man from UK and also followed you from the beginning, Congratulations Martijn , not so long ago you were in the tent being battered by lots of bad weather, it’s good to see you have battled on and now you have a beautiful home, created with your own hand, something for you to be so proud of and documented on video, well done young man

I agree totally. This has been a splendid journey. Congratulations and well done. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you. ❤❤❤
There's nothing but lies and rubbish on mainstream TV.
So we are completely in agreement.
55 y old from PT , however totaly agree with... Sundays , dont need my TV 👍,,, follow Martin and couple Uk also homestading here in PT
Magnificent. Not many UA-cam videos will be remembered after 50 to 100 years, but this is a work of art. You and this part of your life will be remembered even after we are all gone!
3...2...1
Who else got a little bit teary-eyed seeing those first photos of the cabin, and then the flashbacks of ALL of the work?? Bravo and congrats Martijn! You must feel so proud of this accomplishment. You have done amazing work! x
A M A Z I N G !
Anyone else have been watching Martijn since day one? This is the most amazing thing I‘ve seen on UA-cam ever. Incredible journey, incredible transformation, incredibly entertaining, incredibly brave undertaking achieved. Respect and Bravo!
Yes... Crying of joy and gratitude, for being a witness to this amazing achievement. The moment Kirstend Dirksen showcased Martijn's hut I was on board. Haven't missed a beat in watching this series eversince. Blessing to you and everyone who reads this
Yes. It's up there with "My Self Reliance" really impressive work!
Yes…. Been here since day one!
Yes, from Day One! 😊
YES since day one in the Alps, but first discovered Martijn on his bicycle journey, I believe from Canada to the tip of South America. WOW. LOVE his channel and all the beauty he surrounds himself with. Martijn is Amazing~!
I love that it was Ollie and the priest who came for your first fully finished cabin dinner. Really special!
Ollie and Johannes.
@@skeena59 yeah!
So nice to see all of you together : Martijn, Ollie and Johannes together celebrating the completion of the first cabin - paired with some flashbacks of all the hard work from the beginning, middle and end - just perfect,
Yes folks, this 82 year old granny agrees on all counts…we all love Martin and his genius…God is Great!
Many thanks Martin for sharing, A legacy for the world to appreciate …🥰
" It is finished, and it's a completed little home"....I can't imagine how pleased, happy and rewarded you must feel Martijn, to congratulate you only is not enough to express the admiration and respect I have for you.
What an achievement , renewing an old building that was destined to collapse but now will still be standing strong in another 100 years. Congratulations
Congratulations well done, appreciate 👏 your wonderful qualifications and accomplishments. Blessings ❤😊
Yes in 100 years ppl who live in those cabins will watch these videos utterly fascinated to see how their homes were shaped
This is a mile stone for me too. Have to say ..Martin , first day ..when you started working there.. I had just been diagnosed with one month to live. Well…Here I am with you all , still active & living life fully - doing very well.
Your weekly Vids , Martin .. mean more to me than I can explain . ❤️🩹❤️⭐️✝️

Wishing you continued good health and happiness, friend!
I am very pleased to hear you are doing well; keep it up!!
Glad to hear your story of survival. I am working on my own, here in Western NC. Wishing you the best.
Pray now for you both . 🙏
Wonderful news! Prayers for your continued health 🙏🏼
Hi Johannes! Swanky is the perfect word for your home; dinner with friends is the best. Three years passed so fast!
Watching you pull off challenges and doing much of it alone is so inspiring. I turn 76 this month and I have a small flower farm in Northern California. I do it all myself, as I can. When I take a break, it is often with filled with people like you who are so peaceful and hardworking. Thank you, Martijn.
The before and after pictures literally did make me cry. Your whole loving community is celebrating this day. 💕
Yes! Bringing together the before and after pictures is powerful!
It brings us to a closer experience of the present.
Damn, I watched your journey from the beginning. Still can't believe we're here now... So much time, so much work, so much life events, so much progress!
Such a beautiful place... I wait all sundays for watch his videos and relaxing thinking about a new little house that I would like to by in future...
Same here... Day !. 😅😊
SAME so awesome
Yay, awesome!
Well said, could not agree more.
Martijn, I am a 240 year old ghost who haunts your upper valley. I was there when the stone hut walls laid still buried under the slopes, the roof timbers swayed as lush green mountan emeralds and Father Johannes was barely a twinkle in his Great Great, Great, Great Grandfathers eye. I applaud your effort and endevours to restore this land and the history it holds. I send only blessings and good wishes to you . . . . Albeit it I was quite sad you replaced the Jimney, it was a trusted steed.
Having watched you renovate the entire house, I was overwhelmed with tears of happiness and gratitude. ❤
Honestly, it is unexplainable to watch such a gifted human being apply all their gifts so diligently, singularly, and absolutely to this.
Hear, hear.
Well, that was a fascinationg journey not only for you Martijn, but for all the viewers. I want to thank all the people who contributed and help you to complete first cabin
You now have a beautiful, restful place for your soul. Made by your hard work and dreams. Much deserved.
Started watching these Videos near the end of my senior year of high school, I’m now a certified engineering designer and own my own home, time is a fickle thing
Cheapest therapy on the planet, thanks Martijn. Congratulations on your accomplishments to date, job well done.
I found Martijn first as a cyclist and then followed him on his journey as a homesteader…watching Martijn on Sunday mornings is like going to Church…nurtures my soul and gives flight to my dreams!❤
Amen!
I found Martijin watching Two Years on a Bike. Excellant You Tube series . Hes a one man show and his videos are well documented.
Congratulations! I'm as many a silent follower from the very beginning since today. For a couple of months I didn't watch any of your videos due to other reasons. Just to find out today your first cabin is finished! What a achievement! It's so well done, a beautiful peace of art. You, the videos and your work is one amazing artwork. I like your authenticity. It gives me somehow peace and helps me to cool down in this busy world. Facing burnout I learn from you how to do it better! All the best! You made it!
Martijn, I have to begin by also saying I cried tears of happiness watching this video .. seeing how beautiful your cabin is now. The icing on the cake so to speak was seeing you celebrating with Johannes and Ollie at the end, and then recalling how much work you’ve actually put in to create this masterpiece since day one. Incredible dedication and workmanship .. you are one amazing person who takes everything in stride but yet who knows exactly how things should turn out. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking us along .. and we’ll see you again next Sunday ❤️ xx
I'm 81 years old, living in high desert Nevada and have watched your videos weekly.. you are an amazing artist... thank you for the weekly update and break from the worldly insanity that has infected America.
Congratulations, I didn’t realize I had been watching you for 2. 1/2 years. I know you had purchased the property but not started remodeling. Marvelous job.
Congratulations Martijn, wow what a awesome achievement. I’m doing the happy dance for you.All these endless hours ,cold and stormy nights in the tent gone forever😅
I grew up in Germany in a little town next to the Rhein river. My brothers and I went in the woods by the river to pick Lily of the valley by the bunches for our mom and grandma for Mother’s Day.
Those little white super good smelling flowers are native to our area and it looks like they are a native to your area in the Alps. I love Them so much that I planted them all over my yard here in Oregon. However I have learned years ago that those little good smelling beautiful flowers are poisonous to children and animals and when I saw them outside your chicken coop and you picked some for your chickens I wanted to call you and let you know. I don’t want you to poison your chickens. May God bless you on your journey and thank you for your Beautiful videos❤
We all love this guy, but seriously, why you people comment in others comment not related things
I think America infected the world
@funnyautomation763 because, obviously, they have something they'd like to say....
"I don't know anything else to do. It's finished." Words one doesn't hear very often from you. The cabin is beautiful, welcoming, cozy. Wonderful work, Martijn.
Is there an indoor toilet & shower?
@@patnewman9543 He shows that he has a shower just for a quick wash off in the bedroom and mentioned that he still uses the outhouse for now. He also mentioned that he plans a full bathroom in the next house.
And after that same sentence saying need to make a hand rail and perhaps a fence. I like how he nods his head when describing the object he is talking about and we all know what he means and where it is located.
@@Stichelfritz I love that, too. His channel, Roaming Wild Rosie (a woman restoring a Swedish home in a forest) and rajiv surendra (an amazing man to watch for his approach to living thoughtfully while sharing his work) are the only three UA-camrs that I watch now. They make my life better.
Your cottage is an archeological site in a sense, and personally, I believe your arrangement makes perfect sense the way you use it.
I too have been here since the beginning with Martijn, first on his bicycle journeys and now through the cabin building process. He is indeed an artist!
At 90 years old, I am amazed at your energy but especially the attention to detail. My late husband, also a perfectionist, would so have enjoyed watching your journey. It was a good day in my life when I found Mr. Doolaard and his marvelous week to week videos.
Ja, dieser Mann lebt eine gesunde wache und fleißige Selbstliebe. Ich bin auch sehr beeindruckt
You’re the reincarnation of my late boyfriend
☺️bless you ! He must have found perfection in you also! 😇
I love the way Ollie came in, brushed off his shoes then took them off. A mark of respect that was automatically done. Between him and Johannes, you have a good friendship bond.
isnt that a normal thing to do? i mean, yes, a sign of respect, but also a common thing to do in many many households?
@@sanderschat it is a normal thing to do on the country side. Has to do with the fact people working on the fields have dirty shoes. In city environment is is not that common more a house rule the owner has. At least here in the east of the Netherlands. And also depending of what floor you have, you would not have a woman walking on these stiletto heels on teak wood floor or other wood floor that can be damaged. I usually ask if i have to take of the shoes indoors.
Removing one's shoes upon entering a home is normal for us.
I think it is even more important in cities than the countryside, as city streets are covered in all sorts of pollution.
@@lapsedluddite3381 'us' as in the Dutch? Because in my experience we never take our shoes off coming into a house, and I have family and friends all over the country, so not even regionally.
Shed a quiet tear of happiness for you and all the hard work you put into your cabin. All the friends that helped you. The clip of the guys hefting that beam up when you raised the ceiling on the lower level pulled my heart strings. That’s a home made with blood sweat and tears but also lasting bonds, laughter and kinship. Thank you for filming it all for us. From the bottom of my heart. ❤
I found youtube during Covid, as a replacement for the noise of an office as I worked. I've loved following your journey from the start to this. Thank you for taking us along with you.
The end is so emotional. What an accomplishment! And of course, celebrating with the best friends and legends: Johannes and Ollie. Bravo, Martijn
exactly, this man is winning in life, a literal dream life style he is creating for himself
What can one say when it has already been said. This project makes me happy. Thank you to all the volunteers who gave their labor. And to see Johannes, Ollie and Martijn sit for a celebration meal touches the heart. Blessings to all.
Yes... it has that effect on me as well!
Congratulations. A found your vlog by flukeon esp 1. Thank you for teaching me patience, to slow down and do the jobs well.
Yes, nice to have good neighbors to celebrate with. I felt like I wanted to pick up a beer and add my cheers!!!
I wonder if Ollie has purchased a home in the vicinity?
Maybe have a summer cookout for the volunteers
That’s the greatest thing I have ever seen. So many works of art, from the vision, the execution, the everything. My soul is full of it. Many many thanks for allowing us to participate in such a glorious venture.
When there are videos like this on UA-cam, who needs TV? This is better than anything you could find on TV, no ads, no selling stuff, no politics, just beautiful creativity, and very relaxing to watch. It's really inspiring.
A big Congratulations, and thank you for letting us all watch your incredible journey. You are truly a

I'm a 31yo Malaysian guy, it's fascinating that we all have the same interest in watching mr Martijn while otherwise we would not have much in common.hope for the best for all of you all around this small small world.
Well said, at the end of the day we are all humans living on this beautiful Earth. Best wishes 🙏.
Yes , no matter our ages, very young or very old , from all over the world, we feel we are Martijn friends and admirers. Isn’t that so good in the crazy and violent times we are living ? This one hour a week watching Martijn videos are the last space of time we can enjoy life , friendship, love for hard work , peace and good will. At least I forget for one hour the madness in we are forced to live nowadays. God bless all of you , keep taking care of our beautiful little pale blue dot in space . 💙🇨🇱
Well said! I'm Malaysian too. And I have enjoyed his channel too.
Watching you put the final touches on your bedroom reminded me that you've put your hands on every square inch of that building and the hours and hours of backbreaking work that went into it, and then the final scenes just made that picture complete. God bless you, Martijn, and may He keep you always in His care. From an old mother who can only begin to imagine what's in your parents' hearts! ❤🙏
This is much more than renovating a rustic cabin. It’s meditation, serenity, success mixed with failure and overcome by sheer determination to fulfil a dream. It’s a lesson in life.
Martijn, observing your journey from the very beginning has been a true delight. Your unwavering commitment has indeed borne fruit. Now, living abroad at 31, your videos evoke a sense of longing for home. You truly are an inspirational figure. God bless you.
Would putting some storage space in the wood panelling have been an option?
It would be an option but as he mentioned he’ll be building storage in another cabin.
He is one of three reasons I subscribed to youtube. I tell you now I will tell you again this is not just a house renovation. It is a masterpiece, a piece of art, and you feel a sense of comfort and peace while staring at it. One project finished, two more to go. I really look forward to the upcoming project. Hope you keep good health.

Thank you for the most interesting series, you are a Master with everything you do. 2.5 years! Well for me they passed far too quickly, you may think it longer. Each episode was perfection . I am so looking forward to watching future episodes and what more you accomplish. You deserve an award from UA-cam
@BrendaO, I'm crying too! Martin, my husband and I have watched your entire journey. We are SO PROUD of you! Even our 2-year-old yellow labrador retriever likes to watch your videos! What an incredible effort, masterfully filmed and edited, reminding us that there is a way to build and live (and make youtube videos) that is pure, creative, authentic. You're our favorite UA-cam dude. Can't wait to see your outdoor builds this summer. We are rooting for the chickens, too! Keep doing what you're doing.

Thank you for allowing me to come along on this amazing journey! The cabin is just amazing & beautiful!
For the past few years I have been comforted by Martijn's demeanor and journey. Such a quality person and craftsman. Thanks friend from a far distance land.
I totally agree. Martijn has amazing patience when things go wrong or take longer than he anticipates. He's always so calm. He seems like a very caring person and he loves his family very much. I'm so thankful he allowed us to accompany him on his journey. :)
I cried at the final images too - you don't just make beautiful buildings from sad and abandoned ones, Martijn, you make compelling films too.
Thank you for all the joy your weekly stories give to so many people. I wish you hours of rest in in your 'swanky' bedroom and many more splendid meals from your kitchen.
Watching you lug that sofa reminded me of my determination to lug my parents queen size mattress and box springs upstairs to my bedroom when they bought a new king size bed. I was 13 or 14, about five foot three and weighed 120 lbs. I was very
determined to fix up my new bed.😂 Your cottage is lovely. Your craftsmanship reveals itself in the furniture you have built and the molding in your bedroom. The furniture is all

Congratulations, you have done something most people dream of but never achieve. I hope you find years of happiness and contentment in your amazing home.
Congratulations Martijn on your achievement! It must’ve been an incredible journey getting to this point. Wish you the best with all your future projects!
In this modern society, instant gratification is becoming more the thing. So, to achieve what you have done in a planned methodical manner with a far away end goal in sight is admirable.
There we were....now here we are.
I cried as well, watching you finish your beautiful home. I'm so glad you will now have easier winters. I think the new chickens are a great addition, too.
As you continue to achieve your dream, know that so many of us are with you for the long haul. I cried some, but also laughed out loud when you said, "I don't know what else to do." I envy the brevity of your words, they speak volumes. And soon after, you're clearing trees for the greenhouse.
You are blessed to have good friends - they obviously love & respect you, AND it's comforting to me, at least, that you have them nearby if you need help.
Looking forward to another 2½ years. Congratulations, Martijn.
So wonderful to see you, Ollie and Johannes together again since the last time I did the painting! Congratulations on completing this amazing piece of art. It truly is your sculpture!
Oh Martin, congratulations on a job well done. So many hands have touched your home, some years ago and some with you. What a journey you have invited us to share. Thank you for that, we are all changed for your generous invitation. Blessings

Martijn, this is such a huge day for you and all of us viewers!
I absolutely love that all the friends you made along the way during the restauration process somehow left their mark in your home.
And I especially loved that you shared this milestone with two of the most important ones, Johannes and Ollie, at your little housewarming party!
Can't wait for the next family visit and can already imagine you showing off all the details of the house to your father, mother and brothers! I bet they will be in total awe as well.
So next to the garden, then!
It says at the end of your episode 'thanks for watching' ........It's an absolute pleasure! I loved it when you sat on your new sofa and sighed! That's how I feel. I've been reforming an old house in Asturias for nearly two years and goodness, when I sit down on my recliner it's fanstastic, but then I am 62.

Chickens can take a while to recover from traumatic events such as assaults on their domain. The new arrivals and renewed threats worry them and they may stop laying eggs for a while. You are spending more time with them and that is reassuring for them. The ‘newbies’ will assimilate and the ‘cock of the walk’ may try to take a leadership role. The white survivor will be the dominant hen in the new ‘family’ arrangement. She knows the score and has seen all the progress you have made. She survived attack and the bad storm. Well done Martijn !!
Yes it was a good two and a half years. We your followers loved every minute of it. Thank you for taking us along. See you next week.✌🏻❤️🙏🏻🇺🇸
Well done Martijn! Ive enjoyed your journey to completion of your first mountain cabin. It’s been so enjoyable watching you plan, execute and create your home and landholding in the mountains.
Your craftsmanship is exceptional and I love your mountain hikes, your wood fires, cooking, your art and your daily life with friends, visitors, family and the girls.
What you have achieved is remarkable and I look forward to the next few years with you and your life in the Italian Alps. Bellissimo!
What a privilege it's been to be a part of your journey up to this point. I'm so proud of you and rooting for your future!
I feel so lucky to be a part of this loving community that every week looks forward to whatever you have to offer. To me it's like a meditation where I find inspiration, beauty and peace. Congratulations on this major cornestone, looking forward to the next chapters. Thank you Martijn!
I survived a Texas tornado last night! Kids came and rescued me! Unbelievable damage in our town! So good to have your beautiful place of beauty and gorgeous scenery to watch as I relax! 4 barns destroyed at midnight! Thank you for the escape!
I’m so sorry for that. We’re in Tulsa, faithful watchers of Martin too
Good luck to you Susie. Luv from Australia
So glad you made it through. I hate those things. Now you will be doing your own creative new build,
It's very sad to see Oaklahoma and Texas on the news report. Devastation from natural forces that are beyond our control, carry the toughest of life's lessons. Best wishes for your cleanup and rebuilds. My home city in New Zealand had severe earthquakes that wiped out thousands of homes and central business area 13 years ago. It's still ongoing demolition, rebuilds and disruption to everyones lives. Sending you hugs
At least you are alive, the buildings are replaceable. Glad you are safe. All the best wishes.
Wow! A superb labor of love in creating your home, finishing your cabin. It was lovely to see Father Johannes. I miss his UA-cam ministry.
Martijn, the thunderstorm at 31:38 was so beautiful, I'd love it if you could do like you did with the fireplace video, where you just set the camera out when you see a thunderstorm rolling in and record the duration of it, 30 mins, 3 hours, doesn't matter--I think all of us would love to just take in that shot and enjoy it. "Rainstorm in the Italian Alps" would be a very soothing video.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your adventures with all of us!
Well done Martijn. I know you envisioned it from the start, when you first walked around those old cabins in #1. But you must have had a few moments when you wondered whether it was all going to turn out as you had planned! And now here you are, with a beautiful FINISHED cabin. So well done, I hope you feel proud of yourself and what you achieved
The flashback scenes at the end were really beautiful. You must be so happy with your work, Martijn. Can't wait to see what you do with the other cabin.
I am sitting in my dining room and watching your vlogs throughout time, as you have been working so hard and enduring the obstacles from the surrounding areas, I am deeply saluted for your achievement.
I cannot overlook any single stone in your house because I know you worked so hard.
Martijin, I am an Asian woman in middle age and so pleased to find your vlogs since day one you started this project. So happy for you and wish you are well as always,
what a ride. take time, stand still, take a breath, enjoy
I'm crying like a baby watching the video of you starting out and the progress till the end. Swanky is a good word, you've brought that cabin back to life. I am so happy for you.
First cabin finished, makes me think back to the first video I saw. Actually, I think I'll go back and watch the first video after this ❤
Congratulations Martijn. Fabulous cozy space. You deserve this. The flower box outside can use something like a sweet potato vine that will hang down on the outside of the box and a few more flowers.Take care.
I have been glued to your chanel from the beginning and i have to say, the transformation is astounding!! I am a tradsman and i love how you go about your day to day tasks of renovations. your eye for detail is wonderful and i love how every thing is in keeping with the style and heritage of the area. I look forward to mondays here in Brisbane Australia to see your lates video, which i have to say are beautiful filmed and put together. Thank you Martijn.
Martijn, you have done a wonderful job on your cabin! I've not commented before but I stumbled upon your videos while looking for something for my husband and I to watch. We had contracted covid in Jan of 2021, he spent 11 months in various medical facilities and then I brought him home and was his caregiver for nearly 2 years. Sadly he passed away from pneumonia in November last year. He was 72. But once I found your videos, we watched the one you had just put up where you took your viewers through a recap of the first year and from then on we were hooked. We've watched you faithfully every week. Steve, my husband, really enjoyed your videos and he was complimentary of your work. He was a handyman, builder and mechanic and he admired your style and attention to detail. Since he passed, I still watch and enjoy your journey and I look forward to seeing the transformation of the 2nd cabin. Thank you for giving my husband joy and things to look forward to. God bless you. Linda in Louisville, KY, USA.
You have meticulously created a unique, beautiful, cozy home. I loved watching how you thought things through. Thank you for bringing us on your journey.
Letteralmente ci ha catturato con il suo meticoloso lavoro.
Thank you so much for such an interesting and enjoyable channel, I have watched from the beginning and you have worked tirelessly to make your home, you should be very proud of your self. Congratulations for the completion of your labour of love, bravo.
I've seen every episode of your project but to see the before and after comparison is just breath-taking. What a stunning cabin!!!
