Because animators have been capable of making content like this for almost two decades, they just don't get given enough time or pay for them to be able to.

@@visionxry Actually talented animators can do wonders no matter the era or available technology, why some stuff from several decades ago still looks oustanding.
@@inendlesspain4724 actually, you’re stupid. This CGI was rendered on computers with better graphics cards than the wii and stored as a video. This has nothing to do with artists pushing the power of the platform. Its not the in game engine, period.
A bit of insight into this matter: Keep in mind that these good looking cutscenes from back then were not very high in number. You'd only get a small handful of these types of pre-rendered cutscenes per game at most, with the majority of the cutscenes looking worse. They simply just didn't have the budget to make every single cutscene look this good, and the storybook series in particular had stylistic reasons for avoiding it regardless. More recently, developers have been trying to flex their in-engine graphics by avoiding pre-rendered scenes as much as possible without the viewer noticing. Combined with many developers getting underpaid, we've been getting a lot fewer pre-rendered scenes and so are at times at the mercy of in-engine cutscenes that depending on the game might not look as good as pre-rendered ones would have. It seems that for the Sonic series specifically, they've been starting to transition mostly just trailer material using pre-rendered animations, or sometimes just the opening cutscene, etc. Based on the brief leaks we've got on Frontiers cutscenes, it looks like they're either sharpening their skills, or have hired some more talented artists to animate the in-engine cutscenes. While they still fall short of the pre-rendered cutscenes we used to get, they're doing a much better job than recent titles at bridging the gap and raising the standards. The animations are generally less stiff and lifeless looking than they were in, say, Lost World and Forces.
Those sonic games were my chilhood, even though that time was after all of those came out I still played them. For being older games it's insanely impressive the animations they made with technology back then.
Back when they put effort into cutscenes like this, especially on the Wii! But now a days there’s little effort put into cutscenes like this, but probably the best looking would have to be unleashed 👌
The failures of Lost World and the Boom series destroyed Sonic Team financially, so they didn't have the budget to do anything even slightly impressive for the remainder of the 2010s. Fortunately they seem to be putting a lot of effort into the presentation of Frontiers.
What happened is that Sega cut the budget of Sonic games after the huge critical backlash by fans and critics against Sonic 06 and Unleashed. Sega decided pooring tons of money into Sonic just wasn't a good idea which is why Sonic Generations and Colors are such a step back production and story wise. Sega wanted the easy way to make money so they sacrificed production quality to just make some improvements to gameplay
Most of you guys must be super young if you think 15 year old animation can’t look good. This is literally how a lot of pre-rendered CG cutscenes looked at the time... ...But I guess if you’re 15 now, 2007 seems like ancient history or something. Its not that old lol

@@Josuh it is 100% but its nice to see other cinematics get the spotlight
Sonic 06 still has an amazing opening CG cutscene. People don't trash on that
Because animators have been capable of making content like this for almost two decades, they just don't get given enough time or pay for them to be able to.
Genie: *"there are thing you can't wish. For example, bringing the dead back to life or kill someone"*
Sonic: *"I'll pretend I never heard of that"*
why does this look better then most 3d animated movies nowadays
Sonic's CGI Cutscenes were truly some of the best of it's time

i can't tell if this is a real animation or not, it's really well done
I can still only see this scene as: First of all, your jordans are completely fake.
Frrrr
Damn… Jason’s development really shined in this game.
nigga really went from shadow the hedgehog to this seamlessly sounding a million times better, doesn't sound half as good in 06 a game made RIGHT BEDSIDE this one somehow, its pretty clear sonics mojo in terms of voice acting came from the creators of the story book and unleashed titles, best sonic for me
Truly an ending worth watching for
R.I.P, poor bee
im sorry but “IM NOT A RAT” gets me every fuckin time
This is good animation, really
2000s was a really unique era for sonic.
Honestly. This was my favorite of the weird Sonic games.
Which of them AREN'T weird, really
@@thekiss2083 Seven Rings. I'm just saying the games with the crazy story. The weirdest is Sonic Black Knight tbh

So clean animation
0:57 THIS ACTUALLY MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD LOL
And the best thing is that this was done on the Wii
its a video file of course its gonna work on the wii, its just impressive that this cgi is better than alot of todays sonic cgi
@@visionxry Actually talented animators can do wonders no matter the era or available technology, why some stuff from several decades ago still looks oustanding.
@@inendlesspain4724 like spooky scary skeletons 😻😻
@@inendlesspain4724 actually, you’re stupid. This CGI was rendered on computers with better graphics cards than the wii and stored as a video. This has nothing to do with artists pushing the power of the platform. Its not the in game engine, period.
@@visionxry It's the lack of budget. Sega really cut the budget after Unleashed's critical failure
The animations are generally less stiff and lifeless looking than they were in, say, Lost World and Forces.
its so good
The last wish was literally such a good roast...
Those sonic games were my chilhood, even though that time was after all of those came out I still played them. For being older games it's insanely impressive the animations they made with technology back then.
Fr. This game was way too underrated.
Theese edits were actually on point 😳
Sonic: I’m a hedgehog, AND your Jordans are completely fake!
"First of all, your Jordans are completely fake."
still looks better than the metaverse
And this was during the age of the WII
“I’m not a rat” damn Sonic’s solid he doesn’t snitch
the iconic aggresive "UGH" i love
Our type of animation is just built different.
Literally all the budget for this game went to this cutscene.
Back when they put effort into cutscenes like this, especially on the Wii!
But now a days there’s little effort put into cutscenes like this, but probably the best looking would have to be unleashed 👌
Unleashed looks better graphically than Forces did, and Unleashed was a whole console gen behind.
@@goatprince1 This did not start with Sonic Boom or Lost world. This was entirely on the failure of Unleashed and 06
@@crestofhonor2349 Sonic Generations was a step back? Nah fam, that's your opinion. It had one of the best sonic gameplay
Sonic threw some mad shade with that last wish, if you ask me🤣

Well, that was quite noble of you Sonic. Using an extra wish for that kind of thing.
its weird seeing this animation and not hearing sonic say "your jordans are completely fake"
Jason really hit his stride in the storybook games and Unleashed. A shame they kicked him off as soon as he finally started killing it.
Real, what was Sega thinking
This is one of my favorite Sonic Games! Despite the bad gameplay xD

Most of you guys must be super young if you think 15 year old animation can’t look good. This is literally how a lot of pre-rendered CG cutscenes looked at the time...
...But I guess if you’re 15 now, 2007 seems like ancient history or something. Its not that old lol
Thank you!
I see alot of people saying stuff like this about movies from that era. "The CGI holds up well" like no...CGI isnt that different in the past 30 years. Yeah theres some bad CGI from 15 years ago, but its not because its from that long ago, its because it was just bad CGI and was often seen as bad CGI at the time it came out too.
I miss Shounen Protagonist Sonic
And thus, sonic polluted all the surrounding area and destroyed countless ecosystems with the mountain of handkerchiefs.
