Heard this track this morning on BBC Music and my nearly 59 y.o. body and mind was transported to my final teenage days. It honestly brought an unexpected tear to my eye. Great days, great music. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Thank you Dayton.
Thanks for bringing this to the forefront. As a Ohio native who lived in Cali for 20plus years, I always said nobody credit Dayton and I'm from cleveland...
Heard this at work over the speakers, but with the sounds of machines drowning out most of the dj's announcements all I got was ".. the sound of music, but not the musical..". Found it. Love it.
I was over the moon when my brother brought this album home in 1983. I was completely blown away by the keyboards and the vocoder. This is a banger. Jamming this in September,2022. Thank you Dayton for the gift of music.
I’ve been looking for this song for over a year! I Googled the soulful sound of music and there it was 😊😊😊Been playing it ever since it’s definitely in my playlist!
Heard this track on a radio station I,ve recently tuned in to, oh my god going to work this morning listening to this brought back so many memories from the day when I was young ,free and single. Magic track. Must be so many tracks I,d love to here again.
I'm always fascinated to see the connections between the folks coming out of that Funk Triangle ( I-71, I-70, and I-75 ). As an example, Billy Beck from the Ohio Players is a principal on this album. I love this extended version. He gets to stretch out and do his thing on the keyboard
Just a neighborhood away...Trotwood , I graduated highschool from there in 1978. A wonderful time to be a teenager. Ohio Players, Slave, Heatwave, Roger, Zapp, Phase-O, Sun,....all Dayton Ohio. If I could only go back

AT LAST!!!!!! I finally found this song on youtube! I heard this song on an ol' skool radio station a few years, tried to get the name of this group and had NO luck whatsoever. Man, I was 8 years old when this song came out.....Another throwback jam to add to the collection!
First time I heard this was 10yrs ago on an old school mix CD. Since then I have played it to death. It’s such a fantastic song with magical funk, dance elements. The guitar riff and bass line is what got me first. And then the voice arrangements are on point. 100%👌🏽👌🏽
This is music at it's ultimate best. Just came across this master piece again after so many yeeeeeaaaarrrssss. I love this track so much. The sound of music is truly awesome.
An involvement with a certain Mr. Roger Troutman is clearly audible here & also a feeling of EWF too but no evidence of such. A lot of disco/soul/funk got called jazzfunk in those days. This was.
It's not helping that The Sound Of Music is such a well known musical if one is trying to find this track online and you don't know the artist name. 😁I once tried to find the track "Don't Stop" by K.I.D. without knowing the artist name, as you can imagine that was extremely difficult, but I did manage in the end.
My local NPR station -- WYSO -- has an afternoon music program called "Midday Music". A couple of months ago, they focused on local bands, and played this song. I hadn't heard it before, and it was love at first listen. Great synth bass and vocoder work.
Teddy's Jam has a Go Go beat. He sampled Trouble Funk a Funk and Go Go Band. If you listen to Teddy's Jam, you will catch that Grooving rhythm, out of D. C.
You got it. "Straight Up Funk Go Go Style". The cow bell and percussion are practically Identical. You could hear he was using a sample of Something. Good one..!
Joking aside I have always loved this tune. Great companion piece ( as We say in the finest Swiss Finishing Schools, one of which is where I reside currently) would be Straight Ahead by Kool and His Gang and then as an auderve go balls out with The Groovline by the Wave of Heat.
