As a trained professional musician, who grew up when they played this song during inner city house parties, where folks didn't get shot! A time when folks went out to have a good time and dance, this is without a doubt at the top of the list of the funkiest songs OF ALL TIMES! As a musician every time I listen to it, the complexities of Clinton's vocal arrangements, the genius of Bernie Worrell's musical arrangement, the serious FUNK on the One and of course Phillipe Wynn's incredible vocal vamp and the use of the cuica (what?) no conservatory needed!
If only my middle school music teacher would think the same. Let the funk never stop, never!
@@hiimgamerspruzzino5804 He doesn't know, what he doesn't know.. Teach him, ANd make sho you're wearing your sunglasses, so they can't see, what you ain't lookin at!
@@LDiablo1 I will sure do! Let her (shes a woman) know that there is something more other than classical music. Ill make sure to bring my bop gun as well lol
We had fun.
Back in the day, You could almost ride around Belle Isle. (An island park just off of downtown Detroit) to the long version of this song. Good Times
When I used to dj at a club in college, whenever drink sales were slow the bartender told me to play this jam the extended version. Right after that joint, the bar was packed LOL
This song will never grow old. It's songs like this that helped keep the obesity rate down. Talk about partying hard, all night long. Probably burned 10,000 calories! Seriously! #NothingLikeOldSkoolMusic!!!
George Clinton has unique vocals that resonate. Thanks a lot for the upload.
Philippe Wynne led vocals on track.
travis samuel @0:52 to 3:17, Clinton is the lead, which is to what I'm referring.
travis samuel -lead vocals: George Clinton, Garry Shider, Phillippe Wynne, Junie Morrison, Jessica Cleaves.
Tks I'll tell Star Child next time i see him...
travis samuel (correction): Philippe Wynne led vocals on track, after electric guitar solo.
My mom LOVES this song. She said that 17 different instruments were played at the same time. She said top that new school. But sadly no one can
bootsy on drums , walter junie morrison on moog ,fender rhodes , phrophet 5 synths ,piano, and guitars by michael hampton, percussion(bongo scratch) larry frantangelo, vocals arranged by george and junie , LEAD VOCALS,George,Gary, junie, greg thomas (it didnt twerk), scat ( phillype wynn of the spinners) Jessica cleaves (you turn me on and out) ron ford, clip payne (oh no not the moose)sheila horn there is also a accapella version of this song
donthewatcher i like the accapella version too
phillipe wynn left the spinners for funkeldelic, loved him on this album, I was used of him sing syrupy love songs with the PLATTERS ,and the SPINNERS, However when he left and joined George, I think that caught us old school musicphiles by surprise back n 79.
Phillipe Wynn, yeah and heard Juni Morrison left the Ohio Players for the funk also. I love this stuff, great upload seand67!
Immersed in funk so deep. R.I.P. Phillippe Wynne. Big ups to Junie for really putting this jam together
OMG!!! I love this!!! My Army Brother brought this to the West Coast, from Being stationed in DC @ The Pentagon. I still love it!
👏🏿👏🏿👍🏾
Thank you, good burger, for introducing the younger generation to this classic jam.
My friend and I actually vowed to host a party with a straitjacket dress code and play this song non stop. It'll happen someday...
Something about the music STILL gets into my pants....even after all these years. 🙏🏾❤️
FIFTEEN minutes of funk. Beat that, Whodini!
lol hell naw boi u stupid
Super stupid! Lol 🤣♥️
I still get chills when I hear that bass line. Did he say "it didn't TWERK no more" at 1:21? Uncle Jam still staying ahead of his time. Saw him in Tucson of all places 2 years ago. He killed it! Funkateers unite!
You know how fried ice cream is a reality? Well, so is time travel. True story! 🤷🏻♂️
Copyright "twerk" Lil Wayne "bling"¿? Oops, to late, get down, one time!!!!
It didn't work? Just pronouncing the T strong in "didn't".
This full version is where it's at! On the radio edit, you never get to hear Phillipe Wynne's voice. This is song is KING baby!!!
Man, why can't people at least try to make music like this nowadays?
SMUS16475 Wesley's Theory, or King Kunta.
Marcus Pollack I'm talking about funk, not hip hop. :D
SMUS16475 It's mostly hip hop, but it has funk elements to it. The only other song i can think of is Get Lucky by Daft Punk.
Marcus Pollack Get Lucky was two years ago. I'm talking about 2015 - present.
SMUS16475 look up nu disco, funky panda is a good source of it. It's obviously more electronic nowadays but it still has the groove that these songs portray. Haywyre's ODESZA remix is a good one
If you don't dig this, something is wrong with your life!!!
Agreed! :)
Damn Right..(>
If you don't dig this there is something wrong with your earhole
Fa SHO!
Exactly!
SO many big artists were influenced just by this song alone.
The chicken ain’t picking and the rooster wasn’t kicking but the music moves me it soothes me. That guitar solo is P-Funk at its Finest!!!
Thank you Big Brother for introducing me to P-Funk
De La Soul brought me here :D
Beyond a classic!!!!
I got goosebumps jammin on my skin! Another one of those solid jams from roller skating days!
rediculous FAt!!!
I was 17 when this was released, brought the record. And I got tired of it because my weak-ass can’t resist a goddamn 15 minute song of funk
MC Knockout / Cyclone Warrior Classic....If you can’t have the full 15:06 version don’t waste your time with an edit!!
seand67 Yep, you’re right. I heard De La’s version 10 years later. And yeah I did like it, De La’s song is cool and alright
I hate comparing our generation music (those of us born in the 70s) to the current kids music. But it is hard not to when hearing this treasure. This is 15 mins of pure gold! This is one song and it is 35 years old and still funky and playable!
Hell Yeah, I would sweat my perm out on this song. Dropping it like it was hot. Now I can not hold it likes it's warm. Might break a hip. I put this on and clean the house makes the work go faster. What the hell, this is 2014 where did 1979 and my waist line go.
Ohhh Maaannn,1980,Monroe Civic Center. "WHATTA CONCERT"..!! I remember it like was ystrdy...the wild costumes, HUGE SPEAKERS, the"MOTHERSHIP"comin down on the stage, and then they brought out this HUGE SKULL,with a 20ft. "Joint" hangin in it's teeth,n GEORGE said "FIRE UP TH' FUNK"....WOWWW WHATTA, CONCERT...!!!!
DamRite! Mind numbing, circuit blowing , unadualterated Funk! Rocksteady!
Richmond Coliseum I believe it was '77 or '78 hell might've been '79,
Front row baby.
"Something about the music..."

Man O Man,if l could Turn Back the Hands of Time...
Philippe Wynne, easily one of the top three voices of soul in the seventies! Funkin it up!
This is the first song i have memory of brings tears to my eyes uncontrolably
Love The Spinners' Philippe Wynne's scat-singing from 9:45. "Could this be me immersed in funk so deep?"
1:23 the term twerk. George Clinton the originator.
Thru out the whole damn song...
John Jones Damn Right!
We them Abingdonions......3827.....
Funkadelic for ever!!!!
I'm only 13 years old and I love the 90's music, nothing is better than the funk of the old school
Never get tired of classics...
This has got to be one of the ultimate party jams! This studio version is not available on Rhapsody but leave it to UA-cam!! Thank you for posting the song : ).
The originators! 🙌

This is my FAVORITE song in the world!!!!! This is to be played at my funeral!!! the harmonizing is over!!!!!
Lately I've been listen it everyday...love it!
FROM 12:50 ON PHILIPPE WYNN SHOWS WHY HE WAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE THE MASTER ADD LIBBER. JUST PRODUCING WORDS WITH SOUNDS OUT OF NOWHERE RIGHT ON AND AGAINST THE BEATS AS WELL AS THE MUSIC. JUST AMAZING
I fully agree Athena Harris,Philippe Wynne made this song extra extra funky. He was no doubt the best ad libber ever!!!! His vocals took an already funky song to that next level and made it better. He is my favorite singer of all time. His style and timing were impeccable. I love and miss Philippe Wynne like crazy.
Love old school music
been funky with these brothers since the 60's you heard me!!!
and when she dance she set the world on fire! remembering my starchild days!
I saw Bootsy Fall 2013 at Strathmore in Bethesda, MD and George came out later and joined him - show was off-the-chain!! Forever a Funkateer and Rubber Fan . . .
Some clubs in Italy, in totaly discomusic era, on Friday and Saturday nights dedicated at least 2 hours to funky and this long version often happened, which created a great atmosphere with the right audience.
I loved this JAM and I danced the WHOLE 15 min. + back THEN and still can NOW!! Talking 'bout getting funktified!
Thanks for posting the FULL version!!! My cassette's in the car, my car's in the shop.

Brilliance in funk! Nothing short thereof. Love the background vocal arrangements. This is true groove music. Who does this today? Nobody!!
Junie originally wrote this on an acoustic piano. If you listen closely you can hear him underneath all that MASSIVE funk.

In 1979 I was in 7th grade getting Into everything I should'nt and this jam was bumpin hard at our Jr High Dance in the cafeteria. It still bumps hard today. This is for the old school OG's

One of those songs that makes you hit the dance floor no matter HOW high you are! You be hollering along, singing, putting on your best dances. A true Funkadelic hit.
Never gets old!
Back then we were ONE NATION UNDER A GROVE haven't been able to figure out what these kids are talking about now, the sad part is they call it music.
Amen...a sad state of affairs...not the Motor Booty....ha-ha!!!
Kid now days have lunchmeataphobia. Whacked out their mind.
Welcome to Good Burger, home of the Good Burger can I take your order.
While growing up and learning piano I could never quite fathom where the hell did these guys get so many ideas, riffs, synth lines, bass lines, modulations....to this day I'm still awestruck...and this was late 70's....this is what we need to be playing nowadays
Possibly the greatest dance song of all time! When this came out in 79" there was no equal funk, dance song of its kind.
DJ's use to play this long version back in the day when they had to go drop some logs...lol
This was a time when the words and musical skills was key in making a hit....now all you have to have is some cursing, some sampled music that not many people remember, and some fine big busted women with a big ole butt to have a hit.....and Hell not even the young people know what they saying......I'll Pass!!!!!!!!!!
PHILLIPPE WIND WERKS THE UNDER AND OVER VOCALS R.I.P
Long live funk! This reminds me of family in the 70's and so much of what life was like in the city back in the day.
