Wonderful! I always thought of this song as an ode to nature. Chariot being the sun.
Chariot is one of the most important songs in my life
Original Chariot Demo:
The pre-chorus had different lyrics and much more religious imagery. Also that 2nd "Oh Char-iiii-ot" during the chorus had different lyrics as well. The song was originally much slower. This is from older blog post which had an early demo of the song. (Pre 2003) The poster who uploaded a clip also mentioned there was no bridge at all.
This pre-2003 Chariot is somewhat referenced in this video ua-cam.com/video/ZewIkamBGio/v-deo.html (timecoded) where Gavin talks about recording early demos for "the Chariot Record" with producer Camus.
This was all before Gavin landed his big record deal with J Records and the songs he had been performing in the NYC bars were transformed to the faster, pop-ish Top 40 hits that we know today.
Apparently, Chariot, Waterfall, She Holds A Key, Dancing Shoes, and Glass were all written before 2003. If you have him back maybe you can ask him about it!

I've Always thought #CHARIOT had a somewhat Spiritual background. The 1st time I truly heard Chariot was From the Wally Show on Way FM 📻 and also Brother From NeedToBreathe
