Never got to see the Cars, but saw Ric's solo tour in '97 @ the Chance ,Poughkeepsie, with Ric and Greg Hawkes from the Cars , with Melissa , bass player from Hole, guitar player from Bad Religion ,and drummer from Nada Surf(?) He was doing stuff from his Troublizing album plus of course Cars songs..cool show ! R.I.P. Ric Ocasek 9-15-19 and R.I.P. Ben Orr (2000)......
@@mrkurt64 Yeah, I know he's a member of the Cars. Like I said every time they play this song he gets so into that Keyboard break. I just didn't know his name.
If I had never heard Benjamin Orr sing this song, I would love this. But once I've heard him sing a song, no one else can do it justice, not even the person who wrote it. Sorry Ric.
I think Rik knew this and would write songs appropriate for Ben that would work out better with Ben singing than himself. I also prefer Ben's singing but it seems Rik was the brains behind the overall band's songs being such a success. Add a guitarist with such great taste in making the guitar parts for the songs and it's a recipe for success. You could still have had Cars without Ben but not a Cars without Rik.
@@joogledlay1225 The Cars made success as the five talented members. Ric was a wonderful songwriter. But....Yes, we had the Cars without Ben in 2010 and it was much worse. Ben made the Cars great with his vocal, interpretation and stage presence, he mostly attached fans's attention. Many fans would say about David , Elliot and Greg's contribution and I would agree.
Luiza Gocławska I semi-agree with you. Yes, without Ben’s better vocal sound for the songs written for him, the band got worse. However, as for stage presence, he may have been better looking but he had a zombie-like presence. He looked as if he was always ultra-high on weed. Even while singing he looked soul-less. Rik was similar but his goofy look and odd voice and height made him not only stand out but made the band instantly recognizable. You can almost put his persona as part of the reason they hit fame. The music was great but there have been many bands with excellent music that have gotten nowhere because they had no gimmick that the public seems to want. I hate that. It should be about the music and the music ONLY. I will reiterate that I do prefer Ben’s vocals but taking Rik from the band takes more away from the band than Ben for the general public. He was more the band than Ben but I would rather have Ben solely due to vocals.
@@joogledlay1225 Semi -agreement is fine for me. It depends on our taste in stage presence who we prefer. I admire Ben just for his manner in concerts, facial expression, cooperation with Elliot etc. He was charismatic for me. ( I mean : Cruiser, Think it over, Moving in stereo and many others). Ric was too static for me , always the same. I agree, he was the most recognizable in the band , he probably never manager to pop into and disappeared from view. But I doubt if he would have been so famous if it weren`t for MTV`s videos and interviews.. His quirkness and intelligence turned out to be useful for the band. Taking into account Ric`s Big Ego it `s obvious that the other bandmates were diminished in the public eye... Fortunately , not during concerts and tv performances . They were lucky to have excellent producers ( except D2D, too) . I couldn`t agree more about Ben. He was "The hidden weapon" in the Cars for me. Thank You for Your answer . Good day to you.
There are those who say Ben sang it better but Ric Ocasek you truly do it well. After all you wrote it and own the rights to it why not you get to sing it.
Just to show how irreplaceable you are beloved. How do mortals see a God? As they saw you. All the pretty songs they wrote for you and all the stages they set for you. No one could ever hold a candle to you Benny, the dance goes on within you and without you. I will not tell your secrets my dark avenger, my sacred heart, protector of all that is good 💃🕺💜
The bass player was way off key. On both bass playing and back up vocals. Ric would have been better off without even having a bass player. Or at least paid her to keep her mouth shut.
I love him & miss, also ( Or Did ) All you all peeps, go see how he treated his wife & kids before he died..
RIP Ric...you're already missed.
R.I.P. Ric Ocasek Sept. 15, 2019
God bless your soul! ✝️🙏🌷🎸🎶
The World needs more Ric Ocasek!
J'adore !
This live version already had a sad undertone to it, but it's little bit sadder now that Ric has passed.
That's Melissa Auf Der Maur!
one of a kind The Cars......RIP Ric ........you were just what I needed.....
Ric - you were just what I needed in the late 70's.
yes ricky ocasek you are all i needed so much
Wow! What a version. Super Angsty! Love it!
My favorite! I remember the first time I heard it in 1978. Wasn't that just a few years ago?
Rip

one of my all time fav songs! loved this!
Great version thank you to Ric a legend
Glad to find your channel! Love the music of the Cars!
Love this version, thanks
That keyboard player always gets so into playing the keyboard part to this song. Every time I see them play it he just looks likes he's so into it.
He is Greg Hawkes, a fellow The Car's member.
@@mrkurt64 Yeah, I know he's a member of the Cars. Like I said every time they play this song he gets so into that Keyboard break.

@Jason Allen Well, I argue because this is one of their greatest hits...
@@mrkurt64It’s just an observation dude. There’s nothing to argue.
@ Jason Allen Sorry guy, I meant "I suppose"... ;-)
Great version of JWIN. Thanks Ric. From a fan that goes back to the original release. Keep rockin!

Hi Ric, much thanks.
Love it. Even Greg looks cool.
Found out that your secret is to make breathable music!

GONE at 75 Way too soon-RIP RIC!
Maybe the remaining the cars members should make a one night concert tribute to ric ocasek..let ric son christopher ocasek to do the vocals...

fello Car on the keys,Greg

Ben Orr sang it better, but it's always nice to hear older Cars songs.
Rip Ric & Ben 💔
Why the hell would he use a heavy metal backing band? Waaaay tooooo heavy!
Prefer ben orr but honestly it still sounds great
Not the same without Benjamin
Totally agree
No way... 😒
No ric its benjamin orr sing the songs no ric

this guitar distortion is unnecessary, bad tone !!! ☹️
