What a beautiful boat! Smart use of space and practical layout. Bright and open deck salon with easy comfortable entrance. Twin keel is great for shallow waters like in Florida Keys. I really like the idea. Never saw anything like that before. A dream to live in.

Sirius Werft Hello!
Probably the most well-designed sailboat under 50'. You can tell it was designed by someone who spends more time on the water than in front of a drafting table. Everything is so well thought out and purposeful.

Actually, there are lot of well designed boats out there. It’s just that Eurocentric views will never get to see other amazing boats out of Asia/Australia/New Zealand.

Excellent job on all aspects of design and finish . A total blend of luxury , space , organization , function in both interior space , deck and engine room area with details too many to mention in one sentence . As we age and look at the world differently it stands to reason that this is going to be appealing , even to my better half. The first time my better half saw the videos of a pilot house , she was smitten and that i wasnt expecting . Believe it or not your Sirius Program is awesome and has given me a new lease on life to rekindle the sailing dream again . I would also like to add special mention to the stainless fabricating team Job well done ! Being in that branch of trade myself , fabricator of custom stainless yacht hardware , engineers included. That Hydrovane setup is BadAss.
Looks cool, but it probably shades the solar panels, together with the wind generator and the radar. Wonder what the impact is.
@@donaldvanvliet9039 You are right! at some time of the day there will always some shade. The good thing of the solar panels we are using on the roof is that they have a number of diodes switching off the shadowed areas and working on on the unshaded ones instead of rendering the whole panel useless. The sail of the hydro vane could be taken off and stored away very quick

You missed the huuuge stowage lockers under the floor of the galley's corridor. Absolutely massive and unique in this 40 range.
But this time we have an achievement : you missed a whole room, the workshop !
It was under the saloon's rear seat. And it's the key point of this boat with the stowage room and the center bedroom.
And has allways, get a wider angle.

3:25 very interesting boat, however that raised saloon might be very hot in Mediterranean or even more Southern waters, the small opening sections on the side don't compensate for lack of frontal airflow, let aside the fact those frontal glasses will be catching all the sun in the very hot summers. I guess all these boats are designed to navigate only in northern waters. 🤷

Well, it´s true that through big windows you also get cold and heat in if you do not take measures against it (not that this would stop you having them in your holiday cottage!?). Building boats since 52 years now we have about 20% of or boats in very hot and sunny areas and most of the recent built 40s as well as some of the smaller models are in particular chosen to circumnavigate also through a lot of warm areas. This has been taking in account when developing them. The good thing here is that everything good against cold works also against heat. She has a very sound insulation through the whole boat (up to 80mm in the roof alone, and including 30mm Divinycell foam in deck and hull). The deck saloon windows are double glassed, UV protecting tinted and toughed away partly under up to 400mm of roof overhangs. But most important to understand is that a deck saloon is much easier to air through as you do not have to “convince” the air to go down through a hatch, below through the boat and up again out of the companionway. You can just open both side windows (and there could be more to open if really needed) and let the air blow through. Same goes for the many hatches up front on exactly the same level than the huge door and sliding hatch in the back. Biminis and - for being on anchorages and in harbors - additional sun shades are also available. The most effective: a simple L-shaped cover between roof and railing mounted vertically in no time which keeps you all visibility from inside out but stops the sun shining in from above (except of exactly midday only needed on one side). Of cause air conditions are an option, but very seldom chosen by people living on board all year round or for extended times...

just an observation the Jib and Genoa rollers are so close can't imagine the fouls...
Yes, you are right, if you see this to a cutter rig. The benefit of the so called "solent rig" is, that you still have a proper sized jib, which could be sailed from 3-3,5 beaufort on, with enough sail area to have fun with it. ....and have the big genny at hand as well, without changing sails effort, other than furling the new sail out and the old one in from without leaving the cockpit. Than the jib still sits on a furling reefing system and could be made much smaller, when the wind excides 7 beaufort. The down side is, that you can´t tack the genny though the gap, but either have to furl it, in and out, while tacking or gybe it though. This works pretty good, but is work, thought ...but than one have to see: as a cruising sailor, you would try not to set your course against the wind all the time or are on long tacks. If you have to tack constantly, the jib is the better choice anyhow, or if it´s that little of wind, furling the genny in a tack is not that much work at all. A wider gap would either need a longer bowsprit, or a rod leading though the front cabin to reinforce …and reduces the jib to a real storm sail, not very often used at all...

yes, keeping it simple is a generally good advice and always a struggle to balance this out with all other customer needs. So boats are very differnetly equiped and set up. But at least we are lucky to work with the best manufactures of equipment world-wide to insure the best possible quality

9:14 with such bow arrangement and when the boat start to pound into the waves, I wander if this entire front part together with anchor will be ripped off.?? just saying..
Well, we are building ocean-going-cruisers since 49 years now and the goes a lot of thought and calculation into every little detail. This bow platform is a welded construction all one with the shrouds for the forestays, the bow protection attached to the boat through stainless steel reinforcements and the laminated deck hull joint with numerous bolts calculated for it. A similar yacht which was displayed at the Seattle boat show at the same time had covered 20.000miles by now and has seen some gales on it`s way from Germany through the Pacific to Vancouver …as well as about half of all ever built Sirius 40 DS are frequently on blue-water-cruises. From all this experiences I would state without doubt that this is made up to it.... Lovely boat just wonder if the mainsail a hand full with no traveler and hand pulley system
In my view it works very fine. As an often single-hand-sailor that´s where I love to grab it fast and easy from wherever in the cockpit I am at that very moment. The 10 to 1 system takes of all the critical load but the positioning at the very aft of the boom makes this loads 1/4 of power needed if positioned in the middle of the boom like on most yachts. It also reduces the breaking risk of the boom to nearly nothing. As for a traveller, this is nowadays covered, even on most small race boats, by a proper kicker and a raised main sheet foot point, instead of having a traveller. With this attachment point we are so much higher that a traveller is even less needed but it would be possible to have one on top. But for reasons of full sun protection we do offer a targa style cockpit arch above the deck saloon for people seeking shade from the sun all over the cockpit while sailing, instead only with a typical Bimini - which is also available - in the aft above the steering position. This is not only a very nice feature for very sunny areas and living on board all year round, but has also the mainsheet attached on top and operated by a remote controlled rewind winch. Could you mean Southerly? We offer twin, fin and lifting keels on all (310DS, 35DS, 40DS) our yachts.

The only negative I see is the location of the main traveler being dead center of the cockpit. A real issue for a cruiser not being able to close in the comfy cockpit with a Bimini. Why not have it up on an arch to clear the cockpit. Would be a better option.

bill hanna The main advantage of a double keel is a shallower draft with ability to park on a beach or rocks to dry out. These boats are very popular in northern Europe because they handle rock collisions and mooring despite highly variable tides. Sirius boats are available with three keel options: a regular fixed keel, twin bilge keels, or a swing keel. Twin keels are usually a bit more stable in some conditions and a bit slower than fixed keels but the main reason for choosing them is shallow draft and ability to stay upright when the tide goes out and leaves them on sand, rocks or mud.

There had in fact been sailing magazines testing our modern twin keels against our (also modern) fin keels on all 3 models. That`s what they found on the 40 DS: Segeln: “Not only a deck saloon yacht that sails well, but one with a twin keel that really points upwind.” “We tested the twin-keel and deep-fin variants - you can’t tell them apart.” “The concept is mature, executed to perfection, and she really sails well. You can’t ask for more.”

it looks high quality, but the 3 glasses lined up side by side on the body and the chaotic design in the interior make the build quality meaningless.
I don't think it's worth the price, Amel 50 is always our first choice for this price.

Amel is more luxury, without a doubt a great blue water boat. Not so good for cold climate.
This blue water boat here is more like a extrem ruff seas swiss army knife.
And the major different is...Amel makes a fixed serial boat with not so much room for customer wishes. Sirus makes customer requests and wishes boat. Every Sirus is different because the owner want different things.
The other thing is...Sirus is a DeckSalon boat which means u can sit inside and look 360° protected from wind and weather. This is not possible on Amel because u sit deep down in the hull or outside in a short open roof area.
Would they'd like to donate her to a disabled family man looking to take his family around the world so he can escape the reality of life he lives in at home
