First time I've ever learned about ironing the bias tape along the curve BEFORE sewing! Such a nice way to assure the perfect finishing touch! Thank you!
I've been sewing for a long time but your video's are just nice refreshers for techniques I haven't used for a while. I agree with all the comments about how clearly you speak, there is nothing else going on in the background and the pace you use for the explanation and the demo is just right. Sew on.....
Great video, I love that you dont have music in the background. I can understand you and hear you wonderfully . Thank you. Do you have a video for sewing zippers? Going to look now.
You are an awesome teacher for a beginner like myself. I love how you get down to the BLUF (bottom line up front). No gimmicks nor shenanigans with dumb useless music nor dance moves! You speak clearly and slowly enough for anyone to understand and I love your demos. I've subscribed for sure (and will give you a thumbs up right now and the video isn't even over yet.) I like your style and format. Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with others! Unlike some other UA-camrs, you put out top notch quality videos!
Having seen sewists going around curves with wrinkling on the right or wrong side when using bias tape, ironing it into ‘submission’ beforehand makes so much sense. Thanks Melly for following through with sewing it to the swatch as well.
Thank you so much for posting this! I happen to have a neckline to finish and kept thinking how to do that without too much of a hassle, this seems like a perfect method. Thank you so much!
This is so great you have a UA-cam video. I have been reading your vblog but I can't never follow it well so seeing U do it is so much easier and less stress :)
Thank you! I have been struggling today to Finish baby bibs with bias tape. Problem I have is the bids are thick because of flannel . 🙋🏼♀️Saved your tutorials! Have to watch several times! 😮
This is really helpful thankful. However how would you do a single bias fold for a v neckline. I have been trying to do this but really struggle. A tutorial on this would be great!
Melly Sews I mean as in how do you fold/treat the bias when you get the V of the neckline. I don’t know you curve the bias into the neckline or is there a way to fold it so it’s a nice v
I just go by how the actual fabric I'm working with feels. If it isn't wanting to lay flat, I'll clip the curves or trim. If it will lay flat with pressing I leave it alone.
No, double sided bias will end up with bias tape showing on both sides of the fabric, with single sided you only see the bias tape on one side of the fabric

Check the zipper pouch video here, that's a good place to start with zippers ua-cam.com/video/0o3CDg5Ia5o/v-deo.html

Thank you! This really helped me finish an apron project. I thought I was stuck because I didn’t buy double fold.
Glad I could help!

Thank you Melly!
thanks for watching!
Thank you. very good teacher
Thank you! 😃
Bloody brilliant!!!
Thanks
I have never pressed the tape before sewing it, duh. I can’t wait to try that. Thanks
It makes a huge difference to press first when you have a curve!
Thank you sooo much!!
You're welcome!
What size bias tape maker did you use to make the single fold bias tape on the sample in this video? How wide do you cut the strips?
1/2 inch. You cut strips double the width of whatever finished width you want.
Is it possible to sew double fold bias tape that shows on both sides? If so, do you have a video on that?
Yes, search my channel for double fold bias tape.
This is really helpful thankful. However how would you do a single bias fold for a v neckline. I have been trying to do this but really struggle. A tutorial on this would be great!
I'm confused about what else you're looking for; you'd use the same techniques to sew a V neck.
Melly Sews I mean as in how do you fold/treat the bias when you get the V of the neckline. I don’t know you curve the bias into the neckline or is there a way to fold it so it’s a nice v
Oh my that lemon tank!!! Would you mind linking the fabric?
It's Rifle Paper Co. from the Primavera collection. The print is called Citrus Blossom.
@@Mellysews thank you!!! So stinking cute!
Would it have been helpful to trim the denim after the first seam? Or does that extra fabric within the tape give a better finished look?
I just go by how the actual fabric I'm working with feels. If it isn't wanting to lay flat, I'll clip the curves or trim. If it will lay flat with pressing I leave it alone.
HELLO, good video!
Hey, thanks!
I had no idea I was using single fold the wrong way all this time 😮
Hope this was helpful!
@@Mellysews yes, very!
Isn’t that exactly the same as double sided bias tape?
No, double sided bias will end up with bias tape showing on both sides of the fabric, with single sided you only see the bias tape on one side of the fabric
@@Mellysews thank you, yes I see that now. 😃
What is the width?
Single fold bias tape can be purchased or made in many widths; the width doesn't change how you sew it.
Wow this was the most informative and clear sewing video I’ve come across! Definitely following you for more sewing knowledge :)
