Mr. Mehdi, Kudos for another awesome vlog. But I feel obligated to share what I know about Zia and Akhtar. Particularly the time when he was DG ISI.
Before diving into what I want to say, we all know that our army / ISI has always had interaction with foreign agencies, particularly CIA. This harkens back to pre-partition and Britain not resisting the creation of Pakistan, to the times of 1st and 2nd chiefs of army, Frank Messervy and Douglas Gracey.
From the onset foundations were laid for Pakistan armed forces to be of service to what came to be known as Allied Forces. People of Pakistan were not to be of any their concern.
I knew Akhtar and Zia very well. I also know their children very well.
CIA agents saying that Akhtar and his sons were working with them may be what they said, but it may not be a truthful statement. Particularly when that was the period when all of Akhtar's sons were still students. Humayun and Haroon may have started entry level professional life, but were still students for the next few years. And later had a very involved and intense professional careers till they settled in Pakistan after the crash.
Additionally, Akhtar's sons do not have the personalities of someone helping CIA. They all are safe players. However they have very favorable inclinations towards America. They all maintain luxury houses in suburban New York.
Moreover, anyone working with CIA is a privileged information and not subject of small talk.
Remember that Akhtar during his run as DG ISI, was known for disallowing CIA or other American visitors from coming in contact with the Afghan fighters. All funds were channeled by ISI.
This also lead to the allegations from Americans that Akhtar and his sons were pocketing the funds. There is little in terms of proof. There may be some speculations that some funds were used against India, supporting Sikh uprising. And that certainly would have irked Americans.
That brings us to the assassination of Zia and Akhtar. Crash had an obvious foreign hand. But the executioners were our army generals. Lt. Gen. Mahmoud Durrani and Brig. Imtiaz Ahmed (ISI) at least appear to be the planners, with Aslam Baig having full knowledge of it. And you see where Mahmoud Durrani is now.
Afghan "Jihad" was a swindle not doubt. There is little truth in "Afghanistan Bahana Pakistan Nishana". A power like America do not need a smoke screen if they decided to capture Pakistan. The whole purpose of Afghan "Jihad" was to draw USSR in a war and make its cost prohibitive for them to sustain. Pak army provided the logistics for it.
And providing logistics is the sole task for these generals. We have a large army and some 12 or so Corps. But really no enemy is looking to waste time engaging in war with Pakistan. Besides nuclear deterrent Pak Army lacks equipment and resources to sustain a war.

Had the good people of Pak had bombed PMA in 1948 and thrown these faujeets under Indian tanks, we would never have seen these dark days today.

46:17 You would be right if army would let the people's representative punish them for all the wrongs they do. It is obvious from your own statement that Pakistani army, in 1947, wouldn't let the founder of Pakistan Mr. Jinnah punish a Colonel Ayub Khan (who we know as General Ayub) for negligence which caused deaths of thousand or hundreds of thousands of civillians. Therefore this Pakistani Army deserves the insults because they protect their own against the justice and this is why injustice prevails in Pakistan today.
