  • United States Air Force Academy - Basic Cadet Training Class of 2019
    The incoming Class of 2019 arrives at the United States Air Force Academy to begin basic training. They proceed to Jacks Valley for half their time in basic training. Physical endurance and mental toughness are tested while out in field conditions. They return to be accepted into the cadet wing and begin the academic year. Upon graduation from the Academy, a cadet will graduate with a bachelor of science degree and be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

    The only people you hear badmouthing another branch are civilians and immature E-1/E-2's. Anyone who has finished out a contract in the service knows that each branch is a specific cog in the military machine and any jabs made among military members are nothing more than sibling rivalry.

      +Mike Adkins That is complete and utter bullshit. I know plenty of vets who think the air force are a bunch of women. Not that i think they are, nor am i disrespecting you, but that fact is rubbish

    • @mikeadkins65
      @mikeadkins65 8 років тому +6

      There are outliers for sure (mainly Marines because they're indoctrinated with that mentality), but in the vast majority of cases, if a Marine and Airman are in a bar and a civilian starts talking shit on the Air Force, the Marine will be the first one to knock him straight, and vice versa. I could never be infantry because that's not where my strengths are, in the same way that the guy kicking in doors probably couldn't hack it as a linguist. It's all cooperative and most guys understand that. And the guys that don't aren't arguing with.

    People need to give much more respect to the men and women at this Academy. They volunteered to put their lives on the line for a cause much greater and bigger than us. They protect millions of people's lives, and your taking them as a joke? They worked their ass's off to get not this academy, because only 10% of applicant get into this academy. This Academy was made to turn the most intelligent civilians into great pilots and Airmen, and so far it's been doing an amazing job. So treat these people with more respect, because every one of them could be the next American Hero

    • @willkettle4768

      gustavo velasquez That because these men and women are trained to be fighter pilots and engineers. A Marine bootcamp will be completely different due to the roles each branch of the military is responsible for. I must remind you that this is also a collage, not just a BMT or a boot camp so the environment will not be as harsh or serious as a Marine Bootcamp

    • @willkettle4768

    What you see here is just physical stuff....but watching the video, you don't get an appreciation for that fact that it's endless. But that's only one facet of the training. You guys don't see the required attention to detail.....the volumes of material that must be memorized....and the punishment for failure. For those of you who laugh at this video, remember that these kids are typically in the top 10% of their high school class, and are generally Type A personalities. Given the nature of some of the comments I've read here, it's unlikely that those of you making them could compete with these kids.

    Lol, they make our basic training out to be a glorified summer camp. It is such a misrepresentation. I was amazed at how long they showed Field Day. It was meant to be one of the few fun things we did during basic, and it was literally only a few hours long out of the weeks of BCT, and they show it for a big portion of the video. Believe me, there is sooo much they don't show in these videos. I laughed at our "yearbooks" and videos. They hardly show any of the real challenges we faced.
    There was so much more screaming at the footsteps when I was there. They don't tell the viewer of the countless tedious rules we had to follow. They don't show us being tear gassed. They don't show the hours of senseless beatings in the time between courses (e.g. assault, obstacle, LRC, confidence, etc.) and other training, while reciting long damn quotes (none of which are heard in this video). They don't show the miles long rifle runs. They don't show them beating us to exhaustion even before the assault course. They don't mention that the assault course lasted about 3 hours our first run, and they barely show anything hard we actually did in it. They don't show the hallways completely covered in sweat during indoor "discretionary time". They don't show the 4:30 a.m. screaming wake-ups every morning (literally pounding on our doors to be ready in less than 5 minutes and putting us on our faces). They don't show the numerous "superman drills" per day. They don't show us being sent to bed at 2200, but still studying quotes and knowledge, shining shoes, making uniforms and rooms perfect, likely easily until 0000 (I say likely because we weren't allowed to have electronics of any sort, not even watches). They don't talk about us waking up 3-4 times throughout the night because we are paranoid about whether we are about to be woken up or not because we don't know the time. They don't show the grueling fitness tests we took, which far outstrip the standards of operational fitness tests. They don't show the ridiculous meal decorum we had to adhere to, while being yelled at the entire time. They don't show the rigorous "SAMI" standard room and uniform inspections. They don't show the flipped beds and ripped apart closets. They don't show the 45 second to 2 minute (if they thought we deserved it, but meant 2 minutes in and out of the latrine) cold showers. They don't show what we call "flow-control" after briefings. They don't talk about the cadet fresh out of Marine OCS that was our squad comm. who could beat the hell out of us. They don't show us filling sandbags and running them between the fill point and camp over and over again, probably about 0.5 miles between them. They don't talk about how people like me still lost ten pounds, even though I had eaten more than I ever had in my life. And the list goes on, and on, and on...
    In essence, these videos don't show jack. The reason for this is because of public relationships and recruitment. The Academy has been under high scrutiny over the past years and they can't afford to show anything that would cause controversy. Because of it, they are trying to make things easier and even get rid of "Recognition", two-and-a-half days of hell on earth, the culminating point of the numerous rigors of freshman year. There is a reason they close off the Cadet Area to visitors during Recognition. "This will probably be the most painful experience you will have for the rest of your life."

    • @patriot524
      @patriot524 8 років тому +6

      +P/\TRIOT Oh, and they don't talk about "Operation Rising Dawn". 0200 wake-up to gunfire, smoke, and yelling, followed by endless rifle-running in formation, PT, and knowledge recitations: the culminating point of basic training. At least that's the way it was for my squadron. Some of the squadrons just marched everywhere, which I couldn't believe.

    • @patriot524
      @patriot524 8 років тому +1

      +P/\TRIOT Put it this way. Those that were enlisted prior to coming to the Academy have attested that USAFA BCT is harder than BMT physically, though not mentally as tough because MTI's, people who have done BMT for months and years, know how to get into people's heads. That's not to mention that it was likely less mentally tough for them because they knew what to expect, having been through this sort of thing before.

      +P/\TRIOT So what do you do now?

    • @patriot524
      @patriot524 8 років тому +2

      Four years of rigorous academics, topped with military duties (which is largely paperwork as cadets largely run and manage themselves), and high physical standards that far outstrip that of operational standards. Interspersed with those four years are BCT, the various and incredibly inconveniencing duties of freshman year (designed to hone followership), Recognition, ESET (Expeditionary, Survival, and Evasion Training), different PE classes like water survival and combatives (essentially martial arts self-defense), social decorum training, officer training, operational exposure, and many different aviation programs. Some of us even go on to semester exchanges with the other Academies, ROTC, and foreign air academies or participate in cultural immersion programs.. We still perform parades and have nearly daily wing-wide "noon meal formations" where nearly all 4000 of us march to lunch.
      Plus we have various different kinds of training on some weekends to include room inspections and little bits of land nav, SABC, MOUT, and cyber, depending on what "team" you've been assigned to for the annual "Polaris Warrior". Afternoon and Evening MCQs often contain briefings, roll-calls, and the like.

    My father served in the Air Force in 1980 at the age of 19. He told me that it was an intense program. He got screamed at and he had to do 150 pushups one time. Also, it's really getting annoying seeing these comments of people making fun of the Air Force and calling it the Chair Force and making arrogant comments about the Marines. For those who do not know, the Air Force is responsible for more enemy kills than the Army, Navy, Coast Guard, and MARINES. So, you all need to shut up.

The academy is pretty much a college/military camp; training you to become a higher ranking official in the air force, the acceptance rates are quite low making it quite hard depending on your standards (Academics, athletics, arts) to get accepted.

    This reminds me of Marine Corps OCS--except very watered down.
    With all seriousness, I am a former Marine Corps aviator. I certainly didn't earn my wings by going to a summer camp.

      Indeed. I think that just goes to show you what a huge culture gap there is between the services. Speaking after more than 13 years of active service in both Army Aviation and MI, I think it explains why there is so little emphasis on actual warfighting. Airforce pilots and crews are skilled and intelligent, there is no disputing that. But their mindset isn't geared toward taking territory or putting feet on the ground. A hotel 300 miles away from the front is considered a hardship duty assignment. A tent with a liner and a working stove, that's considered living high on the hog for a jarhead or a grunt.

      +Sketchophrenia Dropping bombs from several thousand feet = horrors, ok. Don't get me wrong though, Air Force pilots do an amazing job killing bad guys and transporting needed supplies. Regardless of that these cadets stay in dorms, barely got talked gruffly to and played tug of war.

    • @Nicbaggins
      @Nicbaggins 9 років тому

      No, it's just that how the Cadre treat them might be horrifying to them, just so they could serve you, me wanting to go in myself, I really had to decide if I want to go through these traumatizing moments, to some people, like me.

    • @andrewjackson5593
      @andrewjackson5593 9 років тому +5

      Sketchophrenia Videos Traumatizing is like getting raped, going to war, or getting into a car accident etc. Playing tug of war or doing an obstacle courses isn't traumatizing. If you have the grades and aptitude to get into the Air Force academy, you have my respect. That being said if you look at the Marine boot camp or Army basic training this is like summer camp.

  • @euanmaccarthy4617
    @euanmaccarthy4617 6 років тому

    To everyone mocking these people.
    They are not here to run across the desert with 50 pounds on their back waiting for a gunfight. They are here as pilots, gunners, air control etc. They use brains instead of brawns, so naturally they do less physical work and more mentally straining work. To any soldier, pilots are fucking awesome, because they swoop in from the sky and get them out of tough situations. Literally look up any video of soldiers with pilots or a-10 warthog videos, and you'll see marines going fucking crazy about their sheer power.

    I'm not american but i want to attend the academy. It says it only permits 60 max international students in the academy and accepts at least 15 per year. If i were to apply, do i only have to fight the other international students applying to get an appointment or do i get to fight the local americans for an appointment too? Are the chances to get an appointment higher for an international student or just the same as the rest? Are my SAT/ACT scores and GPA compared to just other internationals and no other or with internationals AND americans?

  • @xmarksthespotmarksmanship2730
    @xmarksthespotmarksmanship2730 3 роки тому

    I used to think Marine Corps boot camp was a joke since its gotten really political, i cant say i blame them when i was the marksmanship instructor in boot camp, one of they recruits drowned in the pool, and another one popped his heart and also died doing the PFT, then years later another recruit jumped from the third floor barracks and died. After seeing videos of the different boot camps it really shows how they each stand out from each other 👍.

      Anjas Warto screaming/yelling is used by instructors to create a chaotic environment. During a gunfight soldiers aren't going to whisper to their teammates, they're going to yell. So instructors are just preparing them to stay calm under yelling
