Follow the money and department budgets. However much uniform providers can sell to USAFA or how much internal budget (=responsibility=career growth/salary boost) someone get for their department, they will reach for that.
In the Army we used those ankle pockets for tourniquets and other medical items, the left arm of the OCP's is designed for pens. I suppose each branch has their own SOP.
With the flight programs that most officers are involved in they are used to having notepads and pens in leg/thigh pockets, most active pilots even end up with knee boards(essentially wearable clipboards) in the aircraft. Medical usually ends up in vests. Security forces can be an exception however, and guys like pararescue are just scary

He probably got a little mixed up and he was referencing the old ABU uniform, which did used to have pen pockets near the ankles. As you could probably imagine there isn't too urgent of a need for cadets walking around campus to carry medical items and tourniquets. Most people never touch those pockets except to make sure they're buttoned for inspections.

Something to be careful about... You have to use a permanent ink stamp to mark your uniform. At least a couple cadets will mark their clothes in the wrong place, So everytime you are wearing the uniform you see the mistake. You can get gigged everytime.
Theyre all "issued" but then cost $13k and they deduct that out of your pay for 4 years, so the $1200 you make a month is actually like $400 with the clothing costs taken out

Regardless, thats a far better deal than a regular college. Rather than having $400,000 of debt, the Academies pay you a net of $400 per month + fancy uniforms.
Dang your service dress and uniforms are so much nicer than ours (Navy) lol I knew I should have joined the Air Force instead but the recruiter was literally never in the office 😆 so I didn't even get to have that conversation lol
you dont get recruited for the academies, you literally have to apply. and the navy academy uniforms are similar to to the air force academy uniform, especially the mess dress and parade dress.

Great overview. As an 82 grad, the least desirable piece of uniform were the heavily starched parade pants. They were awful and uncomfortable. I’m. Delighted they have been replaced with something wearable while you stand for two hours sweating on the parade ground.
Fact: the USAFA parade uniform was designed by famous movie director and apparently clothing designer too, Cecil B. DeMille. No wonder it looks good in close-ups. 😉

I have my employment authorization document form I 797 im waiting for my greencard to be in the US Airforce , that way i can have a career i only have my junior highschool degrees with good level skills.

yes but that's because you have to buy them when they are issued. most of them aren't going to ever be worn again. dress blues in the real air force are completely different from the academy. OCPs and Flight suit stay mainly the same though.

Its a nomination and appointment. Check out her high-school JROTC. They usually have a slot they can nominate. Otherwise it takes high grades, a lot of community service and a high ranking state official like a Gov. Or Senator to nominate you.
Talk to usafa recruiters. Your daughter should also get into contact with her congressman. This should be her job, finishing the long application is half of the process.
Pretty sure when you get to Junior year, you officially commit to the obligatory service after graduation. If you signed up for this service during the GWOT, willing to join during a time of conflict, you get the medal.
When is the Star fleet academy coming(I mean space force academy!) you stole the trek insignia so you may as well name the academy after it. It should have its own academy if it’s own Branch.

Why do american military personnel get medals while still in training? I know of other militarys that just award medals for 10+ years service and overseas service.
Time at the service academies counts as time in service so those service ribbons or medals that are awarded after a certain time in service or completion of certain service activities can be awarded.
Did he really call the trousers of his camo uniform “pants”? My friends who attended West Point used to say “only women and Middies wear pants.” I guess you’d have to add USAFA cadets to that saying.

5 different uniforms seems like alot - but pre 1940s some privates in european armies were issued 8 different uniforms. So 5 is quite reasonable.
The Navy has 6
The Citadel has 8
Pretty much all British military have 5+

You need to teach your cadets the proper method of climbing a net. Feet on horizontals, hands on verticals.

Same way for cadets. They are "issued" them.. meaning you are forced to get all of them from supply and it comes out of your paycheck.

Everyone who has been in service more than a certain time period during the "GWOT" gets the ribbon, and time at the Academy counts as time in service.
