When working on these videos, i tend to do various tests before committing anything to the script. Usually these tests aren't shown, and the end result is just me attempting to deliver the information in the most accurate way i can. But in this case i thought the Super/Hyper test would be fun to share, and it could also be fun to discuss.
There won't be much rambling from me today. I have 3 more Origins bonus videos on the way. And following those i'll be uploading my Frontiers Updates review, but that's still going to take alot of time to edit. Thanks again for sticking around. - Ігри
Just to be safe, i want to reiterate that this isn't a scientifically accurate test. I replayed each form numerous times until i got similar runs. The player's input and the level's obstacles are going to be a factor in any normal play of the game. The idea here was to see if there was any significant noticeable difference in each to form's speed, and i couldn't find anything substantial. With all that being said, if anyone has any tangible evidence of a difference in max speed, acceleration, etc. found within the code or anywhere else, i'd be interested to hear it. Thanks for watching everybody!
According to the og games' source code and sonic retro super and hyper forms share the same speed variables, the only difference is that at least with hyper sonic, he gains the ability to do the attack that fills the screen with white and kills all enemies in sight along with gaining the ability to breath underwater
By a slight technicality, the faster palette updating of hyper sonic can cause extra lag. Highly unlikely though, palette animation code isn’t exactly the main bottleneck in that game
@@malachigv the palette system the games on genesis use are made so they can rapidly change it's values since it is manipulated using asm what may cause lag it's if a bunch of particles are loaded at once since hyper sonic emanates this particles from his center and going in a circle motion depending on wich way the player is facing
i think Hyper Sonic *feels* faster because of his dash ability and the afterimages, even though it's actually the same speed as Super Sonic
Yeah I knew for a while the Hyper Forms weren't any faster. The draw was really the new abilities.
Which themselves weren't even that good, but hey, you feel like a boss when you do it for the first time.
The hyper dash ability was very good though, so you get all the shield effects, except magnetic rings
I never really felt a difference in speed between forms, but this was and interesting test
There's one other thing with 2.1: For some reason Sonic 1 crashes when you go underwater as Tails...
unplayable
They fixed it
Thank you for measuring this, I always wondered if they were or not.
Apparently the game crashes on console if you play as Tails alone in Labyrinth Zone in the new update…which makes the game completely uncompletable as Tails….it’s extremely unacceptable that something that obvious wasn’t fixed before the update rolled out.
Wow, i just tried it and it crashed on each act each time. I wonder what in the new update causes this, since it definitely wasn't an issue before.
@@BobbyBionic could be his swimming
@@Chillipefferwait so then wouldn’t it crash on scrap brain act 3 too
Wow, they had me fooled for years. Like maybe over a decade.
Wake me up when they put the original music back into 3.
Agreed. The November 1993 proto's tracks were infinitely better than what they 'remastered' from for Origins.
Its never happening
Unless MJ’s Associates let go of the songs, it’s impossible
@@budgetcoinhunter The tracks used in Origins are probably sourced from a pre-November 1993 prototype that hasn't been leaked online. Some are identical or very similar to how they were in the 11/1993 proto. It's safe to assume they are remastered.
How did you get past those vine grabber things without spindashing?
That's new to Origins. Having the super form let's you break out of those vines with a jump or roll once they're fully stretched.
Nope, Hyper Sonic doesn't drown in water, has the flash attack.
Cool, the video is about speed tho
I always assumed super and hyper forms have the same speed with the difference being extra abilities and afterimages.
Nice will be if they add Knuckles chaotix
it's not really that good though...
@@damonke7674
It them will be named
Sonic origins ++
(Maybe you can play as them then too)
How did you think that hyper and super were different speeds?
The illusion of the after images, the idea that a hyper form is an upgrade to the super form, the fact you never play Super Sonic and Hyper Sonic back to back, level obstacles impeding either form from reaching top speed consistently, placebo effect, and mostly just playing through the game without giving much thought to if the 2 different forms have the exact same speed or not.
They removed Hyper Tails in 2.0
In my mind, i believe they wanted to have super amy like super tails in the OG S3K, but sega didnt want that, and gave amy a super and hyper form, but forgot to say that super amy is unlocked. So it makes me happy that there was plans for no hyper tails or hyper amy and just have super forms when they got the super emeralds
I *swear* that Hyper Sonic is faster then Super Sonic
I always felt that hyper sonic in S3&k was a little bit slower but after many years of playing the game i started to feel that hypersonic just gets to max speed a little bit slower, i might be crazy though
Video starts at 2:11
Hyper sonic can be faster than super with his air dash, also if you can notice, hyper sonic has better acceleration
He doesn’t have better acceleration, the values are byte-for-byte identical.
Also, I'm pretty sure that the speed shoes powerup is actually faster than Super Sonic.
